Tinian Historic Sites
North Field and the Atomic Bomb Pit – One of the most significant historical events of the 20th Century was initiated from the Island of Tinian. Though very little remains of what was once the world's busiest airport, a visitor to Tinian North Field can pause at one of modern history's most sober locations. It is the site where the atomic bomb, nicknamed "FAT MAN" and "LITTLE BOY" underwent final assembly and were then loaded onto the B-29 bombers that carried them to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A visitor won't soon forget the ominous feeling pervading the site and gravity of the deed that took place over sixty-five years ago.
Suicide Cliff - During the battle of Tinian, Japanese propaganda led many to beleive that American soldiers would torture them. Despite attempts to prevent their suicide, many Japanese civilians and military personnel took their lives at this site.
Korean Monument – These monuments were erected to honor Korean civilians, mostly laborers, killed during the battle of Tinian. About 5,000 Koreans died in the Marianas during World War II.
