Number 1 is a clock. There is no confusion about it. He literally said he took apart a digital clock and mounted it inside a briefcase.

No confusion? If someone were to show you this picture without context you would immediately say, "oh yeah that's a clock".

My first instinct would probably not be a clock, but it definitely wouldn't be a knee-jerk reaction to think it were a bomb.

Edit: without context I could not look at this and say it is a clock. I could see a display board, a ton of wires, and I don't know what is loaded onto the RAM. I can guarantee that it isn't a bomb because by looking at it without context, it clearly has no explosives attached anywhere, and is not even on!

Ooooh so there may be some confusion. I thought you said no confusion about it.

There is confusion because you said if I looked at that picture at that weird angle without context.

If you add context, it clearly wasn't a bomb. Even without context it is clear it isn't a bomb. IT LACKS EXPLOSIVES. LOL That makes for a shitty bomb.

Was he charged? All they did was detain him and ask him some questions. By your own admission there was the possibility of confusion once they figured it out they let him go. What did they do that was wrong?

They held him for five hours (at the school then arrested him and took him to the ploice station) without his parents or legal guidance.

Edit: It appears some of the articles I read the day of may have exaggerated the time he was held under suspicion. I apologize for spreading misinformation.

Link? I can't seem to find anything to support your claim.

Weird... that was what I read the day of, but this CNN article says it was only an hour and a half. This Washington Post article mentions he was also taken to the station for interrogation, which could mean he was out of class and being questioned/handled for more than an hour and a half (admittedly, that's a reasoned assumption on my part, not corroborated).

It appears most of the outrage is aimed at the kid being questioned at the school and then finger printed, arrested, and taken to the station for more questioning. I never thought this was a race issue, I was upset the kid was kept away for so long without parental contact. It appears there's less reason to be upset than I initially thought. Well overblown by the media.

I know, and the little punk that made this clock is soooo deserving of a visit to the Whitehouse and the fawning of our attention whore president. Tool

Radio Shack made the clock, he just dangerously reassembled it inside a suitcase.

He did make a clock....to detonate the time bomb that he built

You'd think it was a turkey sandwich?

Maybe it is because I have a background in electronics and designing things that are a mess of wires and display screens everywhere, but I don't jump to conclusions. But no, as silly as it seems, I would not think it is a turkey sandwich

I bet if you brought it to the airport they would not think it was a clock.

I bet you're trying to distract from the point that it was known not to be a bomb.

Known to whom?

The people that arrested him.

His arrest was far more justifiable than those of these kids

Fact is, there are/were good reasons to believe he intended people to believe it is a bomb. it doesn't need to be a bomb, a hoax bomb is still a felony.

Well yes. Though I'm an engineer and can recognize the risk of components. There's no connected mass of explosives. At worst it could be considered a trigger. But so could every persons cellphone or wristwatch (for those that still wear watches)

For the record it does look like an odd job IED that you would see in a movie.

So does any hack job electronic project. Unfortunately, that's the problem with IEDs, they look like something normal.

A bunch of wires sticking out of a suitcase is "normal"?

So what's number three? The irony is that left wing safety first zero tolerance rules require they call the resource officer not prejudice
