KiA argues about whether everyone who disagrees with Gamergate is legitimately evil, just stupid, or actually mentally ill.
The societal stigma against mental illness makes most people extremely leery of using the term at all.
But you cannot rationally look at a bunch of pathological liars and textbook sociopaths and suggest 'come on guys, they're just assholes'.
The ringleaders of their shit circus are undoubtedly entrenched in a dozen different personality disorders. Wu, Quin, Butts, Joshintosh, Chu; not a damn one of them are stable. I guarantee you that they would all fail a psych eval and be placed on corrective therapy.
You don't get to hand-wave this off as 'standard criminal behavior'. These people should be locked up and issued professional help. They're simply too far gone to seek help themselves. It's honestly sort of cruel to watch them flail about like marionettes and embarrass themselves. And the fact that their friends and family haven't tried to intervene... That kind of perpetuates the idea that the entire circle is unbalanced.
Seriously. 'Average morons' don't fanatically endorse a false narrative, carry out attacks on people, and defend criminals. These people are literally sick in the head.
Remember 'mentally ill' doesn't mean 'beyond help'. It means that people have irrational thoughts or behaviors that they can't currently control. Mental sickness comes and goes, just like regular sickness. You could easily classify 'heartbreak' as a mental illness, albeit a very mild and common one. Most people experience and get over instances of mild illness without needing any special treatment. Others experience severe illness that requires special treatment.
Mental illness is tragically undiagnosed and untreated because people are afraid of the stigma. But you know, cancer doesn't just go away because you don't want to acknowledge it. It destroys you over time, whether you know it or not. When it comes to acknowledging a sickness that is doing damage to the person that has it and those around them, ignoring it to spare their feelings doesn't do anyone any good.
