My identity will remain secret for now but I am a professional chess player, ranked amongst the best in the world:
http://ratings.fide.com/top.phtml?list=men

I am here to play a game of chess against the bitcointalk community.

Chess consumes my public life, but in private I have been fascinated with bitcoin for several years. I have plans to come out of my cryptocurrency closet when the time is right.

You all can work together. Let community consensus determine which move you make. You may play the white pieces and move first. After you have reached consensus I will make my move at a frequency of roughly 24-48 hours.  Please do not attempt to use timing as a basis for determining my identity. I may write a basic script to log in and post my move (or have a trusted friend do so for me) while I am asleep or am known to be at a public event.  I registered this account with an email address which I have never used and will never log on from an IP address that can be connected to me. When the time is right I will reveal more.

To make things easier for the community, I suggest all your moves are discussed in algebraic notation
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algebraic_chess_notation

Your move bitcointalk. You have the white pieces

The current position is updated below:

1. Nf3     d5
2. c4      e6
3. g3      Nf6
4. Bg2    dxc4
5. Qa4+  Nbd7
6. Qxc4   c5
7. 0-0     a6
8. d3      b5
9. Qc2    Bb7
10.Nc3    Be7
11.Bf4     0-0
12.Rfd1   Qb6
13.a4      Rfd8

h4 (setting the stage for the infamous Fodor Gambit in which has no known defense)

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=%22Fodor+Gambit%22

There's no shame in chess if you opt to concede now. Simply tip over your King and we'll start anew unless, that is, you opt to play on. It's your call.

As explained above, I will wait 24-48 hours to respond. It may be difficult to obtain community consensus to support 1.h4 but I may be proved wrong. So far you have made the only vote!

So far 1. h4 is the only proposed move by the community. If no debate emerges soon, 1. h4 will become the communities move by default and I shall respond.  Hopefully as the game proceeds more people will join the fun.

Looks like you're stalling due to the Fodor Gambit being initiated.

There being no serious opening moves proposed, I suggest 1. Nf3.

So far the two suggestions are 1. Nf3 and 1. h4

I will not choose which move the community makes. Someone else needs to vote to break the tie.

I withdraw my humorist opening move of h4 and could easily fire up a sockpuppet to vote for Nf3. That said, go and use Nf3 and lets continue play. Thanks, bud.

It shouldn't be very hard to win. Just fire up the latest chess game you've got and it's a done deal. That is, assuming letsplayagame isn't using one as well.

Naturally, 2. c4.

I'm only a pretty good chess player, not a very good one. But don't worry, we've got the wisdom of the crowd on our side. Okay, maybe we should worry.

Just fire up the latest chess game you've got and it's a done deal.
What!? Who would employ such an unrefined method of cheating? Is zwischenzug j'adoube not good enough for you?

hello bitcointalk!

It looks like 2. c4 was the only suggestion. My response is 2....e6

You are off to a good start. My hope is that more players will join as the game progresses. If that happens and debate emerges regarding move choices I hope someone from the community will take charge in finding consensus.

Here is a recent chess related news story that may interest some of you.
http://www.chess.com/news/magnus-carlsen-proposes-different-world-championship-format-2693

Before you draw any conclusions, I will give you one hint regarding my identity. I am not Magnus Carslen although I have played him multiple times. His proposal is very controversial especially among the top players.

why do you hide your identity anyway?

Several reasons.

1. I like mysteries. Over time I will give clues which may eventually lead to my identification.

2. Some of my supporters would not be happy if they knew how much time I was spending thinking about cryptocurrencies instead of chess.  When the time is right I will help them understand. All top tournaments have players from many countries. In many ways it would be easier for both prizes (and appearance fees/expenses which are sometimes paid in advance) to be paid in bitcoin instead of fiat.  I have a very good idea of the people I need to talk to in order to make this happen. How receptive they will be at this time is another question. They may not be ready for such a big change.

I prefer 3. g3.

Some of my supporters would not be happy if they knew how much time I was spending thinking about cryptocurrencies instead of chess.
Since Russia would be the least happy to know that, I would venture that you are a Russian GM. Though that doesn't really narrow it down much.
