You guys should honestly be ashamed for ruining a sub with so much potential, you are going to be kicking yourselves over this for a long time.

If someone from HTC wants to be involved with the sub, that's fine. There is no reason they should or would need to be a moderator. Reddit is not for advertising and promotion, it's for sharing and discussing. I don't understand the hate train going on against the sub creator.

It's just a brigade from the former mods. They even posted on the oculus sub not to come here.

Sounds like the sub creator wasn't responsive to the mods for a week or so when they were discussing involvement of HTC reps

"he (/r/Vive creator) vanished, for almost a week. Wouldn't respond to a single message as we all explained thoroughly why we want to try this relationship out."

When they decided to add the HTC rep on their own as a low level mod "the whole /r/Vive moderator team was wiped out. We've all been deleted, and two randoms were added in our place. A goomba from Mario was added to the banner, along with this new message meant to taunt us/HTC: http://i.imgur.com/tK5CW6k.png"

So I think the hate train has to do with how everything was handled... Had the sub creator responded during the week and said that he/she was firmly against it then those mod members might have left on their own. Had he/she responded to them adding the HTC rep by initiating a new conversation explaining why he/she was absent and the re-asserting that he/she was not interested in having a company rep be involved... that too might have been received better.

Sure, but saying: "Hey I'll be gone for a bit, I'll probably be back around the end of next week" is a simple courtesy when your team is being approached by the creators of the subreddit's namesake.

I usually take my smartphone with me on trips and keep an eye on important topics coming in through email... maybe /r/Vive wasn't important enough to this person? Maybe this person doesn't have a smartphone? Maybe this person was traveling in a place where they didn't get reception or some other thing we haven't thought about happened, maybe no email were sent at all?

Regardless, the actions and communications chosen upon return stand alone as being controversial to some people. None of these actions may validate "the hate train going on against the sub creator." but they may help us to understand this response more clearly. I realize I took a risk responding to /u/_melt above, my aim was to share what I was perceiving, not to add to it or condemn anyone.

I sure hope it's important enough for him. I mean, it's fine that he's in charge, but with that position comes responsibility - one of which is telling his team that he'll be gone for a bit in the middle of something important.

I wanted to create a constructive dialog around this topic so I've started a new thread with this same idea here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/3lbxe5/a_proposal_to_repair_rvive/

I think it's important to hear/read both sides. The /r/Vive mod made some great points about how he/she wants the forum to be run here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/3lbbkb/what_does_that_mean/cv4sreb

It seems like both sides made some questionable decisions that understandably caused upset feelings... to which, more questionable decisions and retaliations were made. Just wanted to say I appreciate all of the work that EVERYONE has done with this sub (including the visitors, this community is a shared experience), I have enjoyed visiting and know it's not easy work to make posts and moderate. I realize it's a slippery slope but I think it's okay to get some special attention or perks for doing a job like this as long as they are transparent about it and do not let it influence how members are treated or censored.

As a Valve/HTC Vive enthusiast I hope we can still get some AMA content going, have a direct line to reps at the company and create a singular healthy channel (much like /r/Oculus) where people can check in to stay up to date. The landscape feels a bit fragmented now... I actually get much of my Vive news through /r/Oculus and I'm happy that it's mostly welcomed there. I'm not sure I have a solution but welcome input...

What if /u/500500 offered flair or a tag to /u/JPHTC (a rep from Vive) or made his account "official" in some way that did not involve being a mod. /u/JPHTC/ already said "we would have been happy with that option had it been presented as an alternative" why does this have to be "too late" we can still go this route if he/she would accept it. Could we also consider bringing back some of those original mods, apologize to them and re-focus on the Vive? Maybe if everyone apologized to each other it would help to refocus on the shared interest in VR and this product. I've had emotional and upset moments myself but it's only too late to repair a relationship or adjust paths when you decide not to try or that your feelings are more important than the community and the topic. Can we "repair" /r/Vive for the sake of the community and members like myself who have enjoyed it so much? I have nothing against the other HTC Vive related Reddit subs but this one seemed to be the most active and there is momentum here (likely why HTC reached out) so for the benefit of those who are subbed, who bookmarked it and who already have content that they created and shared here... let's think about some solutions :D

Absolutely, great response

I think the initial adversarial nature of the way they changed the heading and did all of the changes with no real discussion with the community is what pissed me off.

We need a functional community, and part of that is having good communication with the people actually involved with the subject of this sub.

I'm not saying they should be mods, but there needs to be a good relationship with them and that's not the way to do it.
