Anonymous asked: i'm asian - should i not be using the word bae? if the answer is no i completely understand. my family is japanese and when non-japanese people say things like "that's so kawaii!!" and "i'm such an otaku" it makes me really uncomfortable. i'm not educated on how cultural appropriation applies to other poc because people rarely discuss it, but i'll totally stop using the word if it's disrespectful.

You shouldn’t. Just because you’re Japanese doesn’t mean you can’t be racist, especially toward other groups you don’t belong to. E. Asia in general is pretty notorious for being hugely antiblack. Non-Japanese PoC can also be racist toward Japanese people, etc.

Basically the rule to follow is: if you’re not part of a group, you shouldn’t do the thing. This applies to subgroups. For example, trans people who aren’t trans feminine or trans women shouldn’t talk over trans women and trans feminine people. We’re part of the same general group, but not the subgroup.

thisisantiasianracism would probably be a good destination for you, there are a lot of more specific blogs that start with that (ex: thisisnotpilipinx). They accept asks from white people though, just in case that makes you uncomfortable.
