Mayon-egg

George Michael's excited face when he's explaining the mayon-egg. Fucking gets me every time.

That's weird because Michael's grossed out face gets me every time. We should watch it together and laugh at different times.

This is why if you intend to ride a motorcycle you NEED to wear a helmet, gloves, long pants, long sleeves (preferably a leather jacket) and boots. I realize they were wearing long pants and it probably saved some of their skin. Source: me.

Where I live, bermuda shorts, sandals and a tank top seem to be the uniform of choice. Of course, i live in an area with a bunch of fucking idiots

I live in an area with a bunch of fucking idiots too. Florida.

If anyone lives in an area that doesn't have a bunch of idiots please let me know. I wasn't aware such places existed.

Newfoundlander here.

Somebody said you were looking for a bunch of idiots or something?

Bay Area - about a 1 to 1 ratio of idiots to people that like having skin that didn't come from a graft.

I gave my nephew a proper riding jacket for his high school graduation - a nice armored leather jacket. The next time I saw him he pulled up in a helmet, that jacket and shorts. I told him if I ever saw him riding in shorts again I'd break his leg. The next day I sent him a pair of Dragin' Jeans - Kevlar reinforced riding pants.

If the next time you see him, he's wearing the helmet, the armored jacket, the Draggin' Jeans, and flip-flops, you should probably be aware that he's just exploiting you for free gear.

Ha! He's a smart kid. I'm surprised he didn't try that.

you are a good person. also isn't that shit super goddamn expensive? (yes i know id rather pay the money for something that'll save a limb/my body rather than lose it but still)

A good set of gear is a hell of a lot cheaper than skin grafts.

It should just be considered part of getting a bike. I'm amazed that some kids go out and finance a 10-15k bike but think a few hundred dollars worth of protective gear is too expensive.

Or do what I did and get everything but the helmet (Basic $60 full-face on sale) second-hand!

Chaps - 60 Jacket - 60 Gloves - 20

I ended up slowly building on that to replace my cheapo helmet with a bells-and-whistles model, and sprung for a nicer-looking jacket later.

But it didn't cost me all that much to protect myself from head to tow at the outset. You know, the outset? That period of time when you're most likely to play "Meat Crayon."

"Meat Crayon"

Love that.

Fun fact: "Meat Crayon" was actually my call sign while I was outrider for a roving bachelor party last weekend.

ConOps had the lead car as "Cream of Gandalf*" and the VIP car as "Dayspa."

My callsign was later switched to "Breaking Amish" after musing about a cute girl while riding through a Mennonite 'hood.

*Long story.

And don't try to pass people in an oncoming lane. The guy had no business pulling a move like that.

Looks like the car was making a left and the dumbass on the bike was trying to pass at the exact wrong time.

It boggles my mind. When I was in Florida I couldn't believe its LEGAL to ride without a helmet, and everyone does it! I've been riding for 14 years now. Odds are your going to have a small accident even once, and for motorcycles that typically involves you meeting the pavement. Those people weren't even going fast and look how hard they hit! I put my bike down on the freeway and the only reason I have skin is thanks to my helmet and gear. I hope she was ok and learned a valuable lesson.

I live in Florida and rode a bike for years. I still see people dressed like those two in the gif and worse. Every day I see people riding without helmets, no gloves, t-shirts and many times no shirts, flip flops and shorts. When I see them I always think, all it will take is one time for them to fall and they will hopefully change the way they dress. My skull was saved once when my bike slid on some loose gravel in an intersection. My bike went down and the first thing to hit the pavement was my helmet. I was covered in dust but was wearing a leather jacket and jeans. Gloves too.

Ya, the only thing I had really hurt from my crash was my fingertips. I was rolling so fast I couldn't control my arms, and the force pulled them out and they repeatedly slapped against the road as I rolled. Thankfully wearing thick gloves, but I was bleeding underneath my fingernails.

Ouch. At least you still have them.

That's because the difference between wearing a helmet or not is an open or closed casket funeral.

OR you need to be willing to live with the consequences. Free will and all...

Yeah gear helps, but that isn't the issue in this situation. The guy on the scooter was passing when the car was turning. He was being an idiot. No amount of gear can fix stupid.

It's okay. She broke her fall with her face.

Yeah! this one https://youtu.be/iiF_G5Ja1PU?t=739

First he comes up to his car and breaks the window and then the guy waits in front of his car so he can't leave....then he just floors it.

I love that he still managed to get a swing off on the guys windshield with his bat.

But it also looks like they were trying to pass a turning car.

I've noticed that about 90% of the traffic accident videos I've seen in Russia come specifically when people are making a left turn. What is it about left turns in Russia and people trying to pass them on the left side?

[–]Princess_Honey_Bunny 505ポイント506ポイント  (53子コメント)

they slow down to make the turn, the person behind them says "почему он замедлился ?

Why he slowed down ? Ill just pass them. What a jerk.

Is it because they don't have turn signals (blinkers) in Russia?

it's just cause no one in the USA has dash cams

I have a dash cam in the US. I have never had anyone try to pass me on the left of me while I was turning left. I've never seen this, in person, happen on the road.

I have, when I was on a four lane street in the city, with my blinker on and over a double yellow line. I have seen all kinds of blatantly illegal moves, mostly in the last two years, and most often to pass a line of traffic at an intersection or the left and the right.

I have as well. There was a family with three kids, one in a stroller, crossing the street I was turning left onto. So I was waiting, on a single lane road, with my blinker on. They finished crossing; lukly I stopped and checked my mirrors before turning because some dick flew by on my left at 20mph over the speed limit. Had I not looked, I certainly would have hit him and sent his car sliding into the family on the sidewalk.

I guess those defensive driving classes paid off. Always assume you are surrounded by idiots.

My dad had this exact type of accident when he was younger. His cousin tried to blow past him on the left while my dad was turning left, on a 3-lane street. My dad still got some of the fault for the accident.

Russians aren't ambi-turners apparently.

If it's like in NY it's probably because they got their license in a Lucky Charms box that didn't teach them to signal...

That's why I never understood the saying "If stupidity would hurt.." I see stupid people getting hurt on Reddit every single day. It works.

no blinker maybe?

Look at the video, that is a two lane road. The biker was trying to pass them from the oncoming lane.

Blinker or not that shouldn't happen.

I feel this is much more likely than somebody trying to speed past a vehicle that is turn signaling.

On many roads, the person passing has the right of way, and the turning car must wait until traffic behind them is clear before turning. This is a law in Louisiana on state hwys with a shoulder lane. Technically, the turning car is supposed to get onto the shoulder and wait for everyone to pass before turning. I've seen two instances where the turning driver's insurance is sued by the person passing them because they didn't wait until traffic behind was clear. Cops issued citations to the turning car drivers in both situations.

This is like me when I trip on the sidewalk, and follow it up with a jog so no one notices.

That's one smooth mofo, I bet no one even remembers the bike crash.

follow it up with a jog so no one notices

http://i.imgur.com/hl3YWJD.gifv

There something wrong with that step? Because far too many people are tripping on it.

I read that one step was too high by a small margin like 1 cm and that is why everyone is tripping.

Some NYC construction worker troll is still laughing his ass off.

Or the block was the wrong size and he said: "fuck it."

this makes me think that every step I've ever tripped on was actually the steps fault, not mine..

People just be tripping.

1cm is a lot in a situation like this. I've built stairs and it's a weird phenomenon. People immediately get used to the height of the set and any variation down to 1/8 of an inch is noticeable.

Building stairs is one of those small, sacred trusts. The smallest error sends people flying.

it's slightly higher than the others

This was also utilized in medieval times as a type of defense.

The hidden secrets of Stairwells – Stairwells were often very carefully designed in Medieval Castles. Stairwells that curved up to towers often curved very narrowly and in a clockwise direction. This meant that any attackers coming up the stairs had their sword hands (right hand) against the interior curve of the wall and this made it very difficult for them to swing their swords. Defenders had their sword hands on the outside wall, which meant they had more room to swing. Another ingenious design of stairs was that they were designed with very uneven steps. Some steps were tall and other steps were short. The inhabitants, being familiar with the uneven pattern of the stair heights could move quickly up and down the stairs but attackers, in a dimly lit stairwell, would easily fall and get bogged down in the stairwells. This made them vulnerable to attacks and slowed their attacks down significantly.

Knew about the uneven stairs but never heard of the sword hand thing. Thanks for the most interesting fact.

That's why we always roll with a lefty in our crew.

The video was originally posted to reddit a couple of years go. It prompted the nyc mta to shut down the entrance to fix the step the very next day.

Edit: Added second link

Wow, probably because that kid 1 or 2 year old kid being carried @ 1:18 almost got dropped on the back of its skull and killed, holy shit.

They're not really jogging so no-one notices. They're speeding up because they tripped, are off balance and if they don't speed up their face will hit the edge of a stair.

I have seen your name like 6 times in the past hour. You really get around!

It's moments like these when I realize I should go outside. Thank you for the reminder.

The way that guy's face bounces off the curb, it flips him around he rolls and hops right up. Looks like he got a power up so he keeps on running. Even the way he runs is like a video game or something. The girl used her chin like a brake, that looked like it stung

And that, kids, is why you always wear helmets.

Or you know, not try to pass a car trying to turn.

So much stupid here. I hope this kid got jailed for this shit. He messed up that girl good.

[–]teflon_honey_badger 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

Looks like either of them could have been the "driver" kind of hard to tell from the video.

I was going to post something funny but then I saw that girls face slide across the pavement.

[–]n0t_a_photographer 9ポイント10ポイント  (1子コメント)

There's a new invention (not available at the time of this video) that is designed to prevent a rider's face from sliding across the pavement. It's called a helmet (HEL - met). It's a tragedy that they didn't exist at the time of this accident.

Man that's what they teach you to avoid. No helmet, short sleeved shirt, non secured shoes (I don't even know how he's still alive btw), shorts.

That guy took the mother of all rashes and he started tip toeing away like you do when you walk on hot sand.

He didn't even know how he got up, he just found himself in the middle of his morning jog after taking a fucking sidewalk to the face and only realized something was off after he walked through tree branches.

His brain made a complete reboot and his nervous system had to take the wheel while eating some donuts with hot coffee, he has no idea what's up and there's coffee and powered sugar everyfuckingwhere.

He died on impact and doesn't even realize it yet!

You joke, but that can actually happen. Internal bleeding, external bleeding, etc. /r/watchpeopledie has taught me some crazy shit can go down before you actually fully die.

My mom told me a funny a story about this once. A friend of her, who's a doctor, worked the ER and had a patient walk in the door wearing a helmet and complaining of a headache. She asked him what happened, and he explained that he had been riding his bike and hit the barrier of a level crossing head on. She told him to sit down, and proceeded to remove his helmet. He died instantly the moment the helmet came off. Turns out his skull had fractured on impact and the helmet had kept it in place.

Moral of the story: always do an x-ray before removing head gear.

My mom is a doctor and full of stories like this, they usually end in someone dying.

That wasn't funny at all.

RIGHT?

This guy is fucking George RR Martin right here!

Let me tell you a funny story about Ned Stark & his kids, lol.

Maybe it's an acquired taste... I guess it's more funny as in "strange and peculiar" than "elicits laughter".

NEVER take a person's helmet off. EVER! I have a sticker on the side of my helmet next to the buckle that says "Do not remove helmet". This is mostly to prevent neck injuries. But now we have another reason to leave the helmet on.

It really depends on how well the responders are trained and the situation. The late Dr. John Hinds and the other doctors he worked with during races usually would take the helmet off in order to ensure proper airway.

The whole presentation from Dr. Hinds is informative. He was one of the best when it came to treating high speed motorcycle trauma: https://youtu.be/MsZBXlTHPCg?t=1447

I have no problem with a medical professional taking it off. Just not some helpful bystander.

Happened to my grandmother. She got out of her car, asked the other driver if they were alright. She turned around to go grab her insurance info and collapsed.

Her heart was damaged from the force of the crash and she was basically running on adrenaline.

As a former hunter, I've seen deer run well over 100 yards with a shredded heart.

Some say he's still running to this day, completely unaware of his death.

He just got up

Slammed his head into the curb and flipped*

I saw someone on a motorcycle die doing exactly what they did, except the car was turning from the other direction. Bike went on to the shoulder at a red light trying to pass everyone and slammed horizontally right into the side of the car and ragdoll'd in a circle like 3 times. I was with my friend in the backseat sitting at the light. Was in 5th grade at the time. My mom turned around and asked if we were ok, probably thinking seeing that would scar us for life.

It amazes me people who ride bikes and not wear helmets. Hell with proper clothing and a helmet they both could've walked off without a scratch.

I wasn't a believer in wearing gear until I fell once and learned my lesson.

I've been in a similar situation, was cruising at 60 mph in Botswana on their gravel highways and lost control, as soon as I crashed our Rav4 into the dirt wall I ran like half a mile into the bushveld before I came to my senses. TL:DR Adrenaline bco shock is the helliest of a drug

Just saw this exact thing firsthand about a month ago. Lady in SUV slows down to turn left but doesn't use blinker. Lady on motorcycle thinks SUV is turning right and goes to pass. Bike last gets slammed, lady flies through the air 10 ft and skids for another 20. No helmet, blood everywhere. This was all at low speeds too < 25 mph.

So I guess the moral of the story is if you're driving a souped up death machine A) Wear a helmet B) Remember to watch out for idiots like my dad used to say

Best advice I ever got was to 'ride like you're invisible'.

He hit a turkey on his motorcycle and rolled the bike. In his state of shock, he got buck ass naked and threw himself off of a cliff. They found him something like 6 hours later. Had a bunch of broken stuff.

It happened just before Canadian Thanksgiving as well. Now that we know he is alright, he will never live it down.
