This happened the last time there was an AMA, and just happened again a few minutes ago.

Some mod might want this to be #1, but they have to remember this is still a default subreddit.

The Porn Habits post was just put back into place and has taken over the AMA as #1. The post that was #1 is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/undelete/comments/3l1q4l/63832284_how_countries_spend_their_money/

Edit: Porn Habits post was just removed. Anything getting remotely close to taking over the AMA as #1 is being removed.

A sticky will not show up on /r/all or the front page, resulting in less traffic. Something is fishy here . . . definitely manipulation.

Removing all-time top posts doesn't affect a current post's ranking on /r/all, to the best of my knowledge. This could only mislead people who are browsing /r/dataisbeautiful/top, and how many people do that, honestly.

Since the sub is default its top post is pretty much guaranteed a spot in the front 2 pages on Reddit.
