Coincidentally, there is a recurring cyclic pattern of incredibly strong El Nino events that last for years or decades. Happens about every 500 years, and we're overdue.

El Nino can actually cause an increase in snow. The last really strong one in 1997-8 did just that. https://opensnow.com/news/post/how-will-el-nino-impact-snowfall-for-the-2014-2015-ski-season

So even assuming you could apply this cycle equally to South and North America, and that it's occurring now (and I am aware of no evidence for this), I think it's a huge leap to say that the snow pack levels are connected to El Nino.
