OUTlist History
The first incarnation of the OUTlist was published in the Daily Trojan on Thursday, March 6, 1990 when the then named Gay and Lesbian Assembly for Student Support (now named Queer & Ally Student Assembly) published “A University United to End Homophobia” that highlighted a list of programming and events for the 1989-1990 academic school year and also included a list of 50 university students, staff and faculty members that signed a pledge to work towards building a comfortable environment for all Trojans. Since then, the OUTlist has grown in participation and in content, but the goal remains the same – to promote inclusion, tolerance and acceptance for all Trojans.
In 2009, for the first time in its history, the OUTlist altered its focus to address equal rights for same sex marriage. In large part to advocate for a repeal of Proposition 8 in California, the 2009 list served as a Marriage Equality Declaration and it was published in the Daily Trojan on Thursday, October 8, 2009.
