The other discussions tab is one of the most reliable ways to detect and confirm post removals.

/r/PoliticBot used it, /r/modlog still does (so this breaks it for submission removal detection) and /u/SuperConductiveRabbi's removal detection script is also broken by this change.

Son of a bitch. I wouldn't be surprised if this was an effort to break /r/longtail and especially /r/undelete, both of which also use this method. I think /r/undeleteshadow uses something else, however.

Even if it's not, I'd like to reiterate: fuck Reddit.

Are you sure /r/undelete uses this method? I'm pretty sure it just keeps track of listings and checks them periodically to see what disappears. I took the same approach for ModerationLog originally but it had false positives back then.

The other discussions trick is much better at detecting automod removed submissions.

/api/info?url is also broken:

I may be wrong, but I seem to recall /u/AssuredlyAThrowaway describing it like that

The "other discussions" tab might use the API call under the hood, but both features are required for the deletion tracking method to work

Yea they're coming for you guys.

They're going to have to come after me on a different website. I've reduced my Reddit activity to pretty much only /r/undelete once a week or so.

Nah that's what the whole point of coming after you is, you leaving.

You don't leave. You buckle down.

The problem with Reddit is at the top, and users can't stop the owners' hard-ons for censorship and giving more power to mods. Even the ousting of Pao hasn't changed the direction of the business. They simply do not want to operate an open forum, full stop.

If I stayed, I'd just be contributing content that helps their hugbox. I'd rather help build a community that's better than Reddit.

I'm so close.

Just let it play out.
