I think what's being lost in translation here is that I'm really not railing against this photo in particular. It's moreso just the general attitude when it comes to womens' athletics. And what really bothers me is that the people who marginalize female athletes, whether it be by reducing them to sexual objects to be ogled at, or by comparing them negatively to male athletes, it's that those people tend to not really be much of athletes themselves.

I typed this out in a response earlier and by the time I was done the person had deleted their comment, so I'll go ahead and mention it here:

Something I really want to see happen is a tv show or traveling exhibition where elite female athletes take on average dudes. Like Pros vs Joes slash Harlem Globetrotters. Just to give people a better idea of just how talented these women are, and to maybe not just focus on how hot they are.

And, like you said, sure she does make money based on her looks. When she models. When she plays tennis she's a tennis player.
