She is very stubbornly refusing celebrations of any kind because it would not be deemed proper by her to celebrate overtaking the record of a former monarch.

Well I read that she just doesn't want to rub Charles's nose in it, given that he recently became the oldest heir apparent in history..

became the oldest heir apparent in history..

I think you mean in British history. For example some of the Saudi heirs were almost as old as the queen.

They don't have the same system of inheritance though.

Yeah. Nobody cares about any other country's monarchs. Like when anybody mentions the Queen, we know who we're talking about. Like the fact that we don't have our country's name on our coins or stamps 'cos they have the Queen's head on them and that's quite enough.

I read that she won't celebrate it because her becoming a monarch of course happened because of the death of her father, King George VI.

That doesn't ring true, given that she celebrated the jubilees. It's more likely just unbecoming to stick your finger up at Queen Victoria.

I think the Queen's point is that her reign has been unnecessarily long because her father's life was so short. She would have become queen in her late forties rather than her mid-twenties if he'd lived to 77 like his older brother did rather than 56, so her very long reign is the result of something she doesn't feel so good about.

That makes sense, although you could say the same about reaching the Diamond Jubilee. At any rate, it would seem out of character for her to comment on such things specifically.

ITT: a bunch of foreigners with inadequate knowledge of British history.

i.e. yours is the right answer.

She only refused because they didn't allow her to let Judas Priest, Motörhead and Iron Maiden play.

And quite literally celebrating the death of a former monarch

This is also why a monarch's coronation is usually so long after their predecessor's death. A coronation is a moment for celebration, whereas a monarch's death is a moment for mourning.

That's not the reason. She can't afford it.

Austerity innit. We're all in this together, after all.

Last I heard she's downsized to a two-bed in Slough. Commutes in to the palace now.

If you haven't read "The Queen and I," I can highly recommend it as you just pretty much summed up the entire plot.

As is tradition.

My mam kept saying that about my nanna that she would live to a hundred just to spite her- that was 10 years ago and she's now 92, got to give her props she's dedicated.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sobhuza_II

Spouse 70 wives

Issue 210 children

Yeah, that's a bit of an issue.

He was made the ruler basically the moment he was born though, he died at age 83 and ruled for 82 years.

He was king from literally age 1.

COPY PASTE

Sobhuza was born on 22 July 1899 at Zombodze Royal Residence, the son of Inkhosikati Lomawa Ndwandwe and King Ngwane V. When he was only four months old, his father died suddenly while dancing incwala. Sobhuza was chosen King soon after that and his grandmother Labotsibeni and his uncle Prince Malunge led the Swazi nation until his maturity in 1921.[3] Sobhuza led Swaziland through independence until his death in 1982. He was succeeded by Mswati III, his young son with Inkhosikati Ntfombi Tfwala, who was crowned in 1986.

So technically he ruled for 20 years less than his listed amount, even tho he was technically the ruler.

mofo reigned for 82 years. Gotta be a pussy magnet.

I give her another 40...at least.

If you change the oil regularly, she may even run for another 60!

That Thai dude is still reigning though, and he's currently still ahead of her.

Well that's not really fair, the guy at the top was crowned king when he was 4 months old.

If she did die though, before the official record... what are the chances they would they parade her out like weekend at bernies?

I imagine they'd strap skis to her and tow her body at high speed down the Thames behind a ski boat. That way we'd never know she was dead.

Queen Elizabeth is funny. I'm an American, so it seems like every picture of her that I see has this face where she looks like she's plotting some dastardly deed. This one included.

In that picture if you zoom out she's looking at a map of America.

I'm always surprised by how good looking Phil is in that picture. Growing up the UK he's always looked like an ogre

Can't tell if it's just old men's fashion, or if the picture is just grainy...

How crazy would it be if she ended up being the oldest living person one day...lol

When she gets to 100 she will send herself a card.

Did you know that you have to actually ask for one of those to be sent these days? What has the world come to?

I think this is a safety measure for people who jokingly try to invite her to events. The queen doesn't joke around, if you invite her to a pizza party, you better bet your ass she'll go for free pizza.

If anything, this is the best deterrent against prank invites I can think of. You better be ready for her to turn up with a full entourage or your family will be disgraced for seven generations. Qapla'!

Her mother lived to over 100 so she's well on course.

She has crazy genetics for longevity. I suspect she will live to 145 at least.

Then we'll need to start worrying what kind of world we'll leave behind for her.

As an Australian I would like to congratulate our benevolent dictator, and remind her that every Australian would happily lay down their own life to crush any who would oppose her reign.

God save the queen and may death come swiftly to her enemies.

I'm so scared of wearing my Smiths band tee that says "The Queen is Dead" in case I unintentionally wear it the day she dies. That is the only way my life is effected by Liz's mortal status.

I'm going to be mortified when she dies, Princess Diana's death I couldn't give a fuck, but Queen Elizabeth's death will be such an end of an era. like the end of the Victorian era (queen victoria) etc.

Especially as we have nobody as good for the role after we lose her.

long may you live ma'am.
