Small towns are stereotyped as worshiping their HS football players and letting them get way with shit.

heh, my high school had a QB that stole a humvee from the armory and ran it through a fence, out of town, and got it stuck in the mud. He was never charged with anything, and was able to play the next season.

He should press charges and he shouldn't stop there. Follow it up with civil suits against both these boys and their families, and put one on the school for good measure. If the penalty isn't harsh enough to deter other kids from doing it, we'll see a repeat and eventually this won't end with bruises but with a dead referee.
