This happening to two Holocaust survivors and the fact that it seems like their targeting was racially motivated are obviously both extremely terrible. That being said, what sort of person would be able to do this to someone of that age regardless of the reasoning? My grandpa is 88, and as a 26 year old male I could never imagine being able to physically assault someone that was completely unable to fight back and defend themselves. To me its as cowardly as beating a child.

Thinking of them as non-human or sub-human makes you vulnerable to thinking the way they do. They are human alright, any ideology can make people act like this, including you and me, protect yourself by knowing this.

ETA: But before you assume I'm against 'racism' towards Muslim, middle-eastern migrants, I'm not. I totally agree they should not come to Europe, including to my own country. I'm just against fighting this fight on their terms.

Don't think of them as non or sub human. Think of them as exactly the same as everyone else. Nobody is above or below anybody else. We are all created equal in the eyes of God. I do not condone the behavior of the perpetrators. It's sickening really. But you see they are sick. Sick in the mind. It could be drugs. It could be something else. My money's on drugs as the cause though.

I don't advocate for stereotyping or racism, but as a person of Jewish-Protestant European decent (including some Dutch) who still has family living in Europe, you nailed it.

I'd be a liar if I claimed that White Extremists never assaulted Jews, but these days, at least the instances I'm aware of, 95% of them are Muslim immigrants from the Middle East, who came to Europe hating Jews and looking to do something like deface a Synagogue or beat up Orthodox Jews.

Beating up two elderly Holocaust survivors is a new one, to my knowledge, and among the morst horrible stories I've heard.

These people need to take a look at what happened to Jews in Europe from The Crusades through the Holocaust. Nothing quite like it could ever happen again, but if they don't believe that European Societies will eventually tire of this and react harshly, they are wrong.

That's a very good question! But I don't know... The thing is, Muslims here like to play the racist card and think that whatever they do is good as it's justified by their religion. If the attackers are Muslims it's a very bad sign for Europe. Yeah, that's clearly understandable that Europeans just want to help those who are in need. But they really undermine the very foundation of their society based on old Christian values. I'm not a religious person but we should respect and protect all cultures, including European ones.
