Despite what your beliefs are on gay marriage, making a rainbow color American flag is a pretty big disgrace in my opinion. Whats wrong with just a rainbow flag? Why does it have to be made to look like an american flag.

I'll accept my downvotes now.

It's not a desecrated or altered American flag. It's a completely independent flag that references the American flag. See the flags of Bikini Atoll, Liberia and Malaysia.

Have you ever been in a Wal-Mart? This is much more respectful to the flag than printing it on a bikini, a plate, boxers, or whatever else you can make in China and sell for under $10.

[–]Fuck_Me_If_Im_Wrong_ 17ポイント18ポイント  (0子コメント)

Ok but you can't assume he agrees with those? It's not like anyone asked if he liked those or not, so you can't try to pin homophobia on him. I personally don't like to wear American flag shirts, boxers, shoes, etc. cause you're either rubbing the flag against your genitals, walking on it, or getting stuff on it

$3 American flag flip-flops are inoffensive because they're the right color, and none of this has anything at all to do with homophobia. Duh.

But then you'll literally be walking on the flag

It's not homophobia. Or at least for me it's not. The American flag is sacred to many people, it represents lots of lost lives, struggles, freedom, liberty, etc. Printing it on clothes, table cloths, hats, or whatever is technically offensive, but to most people that's a way of celebrating what it is. I think many people feel it should be left as it is as a sign of respect. Personally, no anti-gay sentiment at all, I'm for all for it. I just feel the American flag design should be left as it is as sign of respect.

TL;DR

They can celebrate and desecrate the flag, you can't because colors.

How is it any more respectful? Disgrace is disgrace.

I'm assuming because people believe they are displaying it with pride.

Maybe both things could be viewed as offensive, I personally think making a gaymerican flag is worse than a patriotic bathing suit

[–]Fuck_Me_If_Im_Wrong_ 26ポイント27ポイント  (0子コメント)

I agree with you, I'm happy for the guy, but I disagree with the Rainbow American Flag

I genuinely don't know why it's considered offensive to alter a flag. Why is this the case? I can say I've never reacted negatively seeing something like this, although I can agree the flag in this post looks a little silly.

Because the flag represents a lot of things of this country. People sacrificed a lot for that flag. To me, painting it rainbow means that they're issues is above all, and it isn't in my option. Every issue is/was just as important as the other.

Are my disposable American flag picnic plates offensive?

To me it's just something you don't do. Maybe it's because it isn't done often? When I saw it I went "oh, well okay I guess" it was weird how it shocked me.

Firstly, it's something that authoritarian political parties do when they create one party governments.

The second problem is that the LGBT flag looks utterly ridiculous.

and finally, the stripes they are replacing with the rainbow actually mean something as part of the symbol of the USA. Especially because the stripes and their signification of the 13 colonies that declared independence is the only part of the flag that has remained the most constant throughout the history of the US.

Meh I don't care. As long as it's not a legit American flag being burned or having shit smeared on it everything is fair game imo. The rainbow one is ugly but it's not THE American flag so it shouldn't be seen as one. I think people should respect their fellow citizens more than just an icon.

I had the same thought, I understand that there really isn't something too wrong with it, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I am all for gay marriage, but for a reason I can't find the words to express I dislike the altercation of the American flag.

A) symbols serve and conform to people, not the other way around. You can't disrespect an inanimate object

B) I've never encountered someone who self identified as an engineer that could pull start a cold weed trimmer by themselves.

[–]southern_engineer -1ポイント0ポイント  (1子コメント)

You can't disrespect an inanimate object but you can disrespect the people who look up to that object and have fought for what that object represents.

And I'm very unoriginal when it comes to picking usernames. I had just graduated college at the time so it seemed fitting. I'm not an engineer anymore though. I bowed out of my engineer position to take a position as an instrumentation technician. I'm not your typical nerdy pocket protector engineer. I'm a good ole boy who was good at math and lucky enough to go to school.

I'm not your therapist.

But it's not an American flag. Yes, it's reminiscent of one, but it's not like someone took an American flag and dyed it those colors. Count the stripes, there's 6, not 13. Nobody desecrated your precious flag.

Its an abomination made to look like the american flag. I can count the stripes. I just don't agree the flag she be defaced like that. No matter the reason.

I don't think it is intended to be offensive, at all. No need for down votes, in fact, here is an up vote for politely making your thoughts known, and hopefully making a few others aware!

I was going to say this, sorry for your downvotes. One upvote for you good sir.

Or how about just an American flag in the background. It would be a more moving picture to see a man proposing to another man with the Stars and stripes clear as day in the background.

Hey I'll upvote you, brother. I served for 6 years and lived in Afghanistan for over a year for the American flag and the ideas that it represents. It sickens me to see it defaced to support someone's sexual orientation, no matter what it is.

Thanks for your service. There are people that appreciate your sacrifices and wish they had the courage to have done the same

thank you for your service

How someone can care so much about a piece of cloth is beyond me.

[–]southern_engineer 0ポイント1ポイント  (3子コメント)

Its a symbol, not just a piece of cloth. Just like your last name. It may just be a word or some jumbled letters to some, but to you it should mean something. You should be proud of it and represent it to the best of your ability.

If someone wrote my name on a piece of paper and then pissed on it I'd laugh, not get offended.

If you want to follow these silly rules over a piece of cloth yourself sure, fine by me. What I don't understand is how anyone can get offended by what other people decide to do with a symbol, especially when they don't mean to offend anyone.

This flag is a symbol for Americans in support of homosexuality. How the fuck are you offended by that? It makes no sense at all. You Americans are so overly sensitive.

[–]southern_engineer -1ポイント0ポイント  (1子コメント)

Maybe some of us have a sense of pride

Being overly sensitive isn't pride.

Agreed, it breaks the flag code.

my thoughts exactly. thanks for voicing it.

I wonder if you'll end up getting more downvotes for your last sentence than for having that opinion.
