Networking

Do you mean multi-level marketing?

In another thought, this just proves that somehow Confucius was wrong in some aspects about his teaching on work.

Networking and knowing people in higher places is the most important thing for success. So, no. MLM is not networking.

The only reason I got my current job was that I applied every time there was an opening for 4.5 years. They were always doing internal referrals, but gave me about 6 interviews over that time.

Eventually I just became a story around the office and they finally gave me a shot.

Error establishing a database connection

Looks like you've got a Networking error.

Confucius: Even in a world of constant connectedness, a database connection may, at times, not be established.

[–]jinglebinx 5ポイント6ポイント  (0子コメント)

Confucious say: Error establishing a database connection

To be fair - it was probably true at the time he was alive. He can't be held accountable for what industrialisation, virtual banks and stock exchanges did to the world.

I bet if he was alive today he would add an asterisk to that quote, saying "...- as long as the job you want isn't publicly tradable. Bonus points if they also don't have a Wall of Fame for their quarterly fiscal data."

probably true at the time he was alive

Does that mean then that in his time a lot of job opportunities that could feed their families were available, and people could just pick them up, whatever they wanted? I doubt...

Edited: "wanted" and commas

Sure, because back then none of the good app ideas had been taken yet.

In Confucius' time a 'job' meant working the family ancestral plot of land for food to directly feed your family or else taking a series of rigorous examinations to get into the bureaucracy . Landlords weren't exactly going to ask for your resume, but the examinations were very meritocratic and any failure pretty much sunk your ambitions. College in the modern day is a bit more forgiving.

Any problems people have getting placed into job slots in the 30s or today are unique to industrialized (and, well, post-industrialized) societies. Basically Confucius had a completely different idea of the relationship between life, work, and careers

Confucius also never said that so the point is moot. There was no "choosing a job" 2500 years ago in China.

[–]boxofcookies101 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

Back those times you could do a lot of hand work and feed your family. May not be lobster but them mfs would get lots of rice.

It wasn't true at the time he was alive, because he didn't say that. Do you seriously think that in ancient China people were free to "choose a job they love" and not just do what they had to do to make a living?

You killed confucius (the website is dead).

What was the quote?

[–]canoe123 26ポイント27ポイント  (1子コメント)

I have a great investment proposal for you! First off we sell this piece of shit product for $$$. You sign up 4 people bellow you, and if they consistently spend $200 a month for years at a time and sign people under them, we will give you a BMW! Now go bother your family and friends to buy our overpriced piece of shit product so that you can be rich just like me!

Confucius says "Error establishing a database connection"

[–]PAPIST_SUBVERSIVE [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

Confucius wasn't wrong because Confucius never said that. Confucianism isn't about your private amusement and it's not about talking in 2500 year late anachronisms about "choosing a job."

I think what you mentioned was also discussed in the article.
