You guys may like this excellent economic history piece by a very well regarded economist Preston McAfee writing in the top economics journal, AER.

It's a central paper on Cliometrics and certainly a strong counterfactual of a flat earth.

Primarily it's been Roberta Tombers: From Pots to Pepper, An Introduction to Indo-Roman trade. It's a cracking introduction to a lesser known part of the Roman Empire.
