Bitcoin is doomed and I'm here for the lolz.

Thanks, enjoy the show!

important note: when I say "bitcoin is doomed" I'm not sitting curled up in a ball in my mom's basement praying for bitcoin failure because I can't live in a world where it succeeds. It's just a foregone conclusion since the community has so much infighting and is so fundamentally flawed. Well I am sitting curled up in a ball in my mom's basement but not because of bitcoin :)

When I say it I scream it with the ferocious vigor of a dominant lion as I snort coke off a dead hooker on Jamie Dimon's gold plated yacht. Shill 4 lief, yo.

The concept of Bitcoin is hilariously fascinating, the implementation of Bitcoin is more hilariously fascinating, and the antics of the Bitcoin community is still even more hilariously fascinating.

"Doomed" implies the failure is going to be in the future instead of having already happened.

I've spent way too much trying to explain to libertarians why government regulations are a necessary evil. I've given up on that because it goes nowhere. Bitcoin allows me to observe the damage caused by complete deregulation in real time, with the damage mostly being inflicted on the people who deserve it. There's poetic justice at work. And similar to any collapsing ideology, the rationalizations made in defense of Bitcoin are like the punchline to a really good joke (any variant of "no this is actually good!" never fails to crack me up).

Basically, if you took any pleasure in seeing Romney's campaign collapse in 2012 (gotta unskew those polls!) than you'll get why following Bitcoin is a good time.

As someone else said, "It's like watching a documentary on a cult in real time."

[–]theskepticalheretic 8ポイント9ポイント  (0子コメント)

I would like to know the ideology of the people frequenting this sub.

I try to stay away from ideologies. They prevent one from having actual intellect.

Do you believe in bitcoin, but are here for the lolz?

Well, there's no need to believe in bitcoin. Bitcoin exists. And the lulz come from watching people who know just about nothing about economics act as though they're captains of industry. I mean hell, I saw a thread of people recommending an investment scheme that had the word 'Ponzi' in the title. You cannot mine comedy gold like that anywhere else other than maybe /r/conspiracy.

Or do you genuinely think Bitcoin is doomed?

Absolutely. The community behind it is vitriolic and largely ignorant. If you point any of this out to them they call you a shill or otherwise try to drive you away. That's exactly how to not make your virtual currency succeed. As a matter of full disclosure, I made a fair bit of money off of bitcoin because I saw the pump and dump for what it was.

If its the latter, what motivates you to keep browsing/posting about something you don't believe in?

Schadenfreude and to further understand the failure of ideological thinking.

Honestly, I think BitCoin is going to be used and have value as long as people are into it, but that's neither here nor there. What I'm here for is the entertainment factor, to read about bad designs in programming, the downfall of poorly managed products, and to not be trolled into shitting up /r/Bitcoin with comments they'll never agree with.

Don't be mistake here, I do not believe BitCoin is the future or anything like that. Rather I am just using its failings, the communities failures as sort of an ongoing Mythical Man-Month. Which if you don't know is a collection of essays about software engineering turned into a book, and its somewhat of a classic in that even though it was written decades ago the analysis it contains is timeless. The BitCoin community provides lots of examples in a modern context.

We mostly enjoy making fun of deluded Bitcoin fanatics and have diverse opinions about the technology itself. It's fun watching people relearn the lessons of why financial regulation is necessary. The language of it is amusing too, like watching half educated finance / tech nerds playing Cones of Dunshire

What price did you buy in at?

[–]moolikeacow 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

Bitcoin is my soap opera; nothing more to it than that.

[–]Zotamedu 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

I'm here because it's funny.

[–]Tesl 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

Because you people are hilarious. Albeit not intentionally.

[–]Haleljacob 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

I'm here because bitcoin is endlessly hilarious and full of opportunity for schadenfreude

Libertarians annoy the shit out of me in general. Here they bring the hilarity, with something custom-designed as libertarian catnip that can't possibly scale.

I am the el Presidente of Drivlandia, Who are you? Do i need to send Chief Intelligence Officer Chairwoman-Generalissimo Cat around for a friendly chat?

Or we can play hard ball and i can send Head of the Secret Police Chairwoman-Generalissimo Cat instead eh?

No one messes with Drivelandia!

Very much here for the lolz.

I'm curious about Bitcoin, but I detest idiots who think it "will replace all fiat currency" or, worse yet, "end all wars".

I can't tell which of the following they think:

"You all seem to understand the technology. How can you not be a member of the cult?"

"Why aren't you all pumping? Can't you see that it's in your selfish best interests????111!!1"

"I'm beginning to have doubts about the cult, but I can't enunciate them yet. Tell me what caused you to leave the cult."

The last one is kind of important and I want to encourage it. The others, not as much.

Oh is it that time of the week again?

Dude, buttcoin is just a place for people to come and laugh at stupid Bitcoiners. There is no ideology. The thing that motivates us is comedy and entertainment.

Buttcoin isn't even an oddity on reddit, much less the wider internet. There's all sorts of forums mocking various shit.

How do you guys not get this?

[–]MagicalBux 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I think Bitcoin is an interesting experiment.

Like all experiments: if it succeeds, good; if it fails, good. You learn something either way.

/r/Buttcoin provides the lulz and due to its satirical nature, it also has the unexpected side effect of providing actually interesting serious conversations, since over here it's obvious when somebody is being facetious (i.e. it's way more resistant to Poe's law than /r/Bitcoin).

I'm fascinated by technical failures (think Tacoma Narrows Bridge) and financial failures (think Long Term Capital Management). Bitcoin is both! It's like watching a car crash in slow motion! Disaster porn at its best.

i believe in bitcoin more than any thing in life and i am here to see how the haters and anti-bitcoin people think about bitcoin

[–]spookthesunset 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

It is part of my divine plan to inform the world of Satoshi's second coming. Soon, he shall land his space ship and take all those who hold bitcoin away to his Interstellar Comet. Once on the Interstellar Comet, bitcoin holders will live out their days participating in the galaxy's most free, unregulated market.

Did you know that on Satoshi's Interstellar Comet, there are no jack booted thugs forcing you to use a particular courtroom? On the comet you can pay for whatever fully unregulated courtroom Bitcoin can buy. If you wanted to pay for a Courtroom set in a lovely forest with waterfalls and birds, you can do that. If you wanted to pay for a courtroom that overlooks the vast city of New Satoshi from 70 stories up, you can do that too. No statist will force you at gunpoint to use an illegally funded state owned courtroom.

Obviously not every person can afford such lavish accommodations for their unregulated free market trial. No problem. Those without means will obviously be able to rely on charity courtrooms. For example there might be unregulated free market religious institutions like the Church of Scientology, or perhaps the Church of Saint GNU who would be willing to host your trial using their judges and unregulated free market laws.

Perhaps the defendant's friends could pitch in and rent space at a local unregulated food emporium basement. If the defendant has nobody to reach out too, they could see if a wealthy business tycoon would be willing to lend them money to pay for their trial. If that all fails, maybe it was your fault in the first place—perhaps you simply are not smart or well connected enough to survive without a nanny state to leech from.

This is the beauty of Satoshi's Interstellar Comet. Your own rational self interest determines where your trial takes place. You can reach the comet simply by buying and holding Bitcoin. Here is 1 satoshi to get you started /u/changetip.

Satoshi Speed!

I used to hang out on /r/bitcoin a lot - but kinda got disillusioned, and it's gotten really boring. And I got attacked a lot for giving my opinion on things..... that became not-so-fun.

Mostly check this sub and /r/bitcoin once a day now, for the luls. Believe in Bitcoin, not that much in the community anymore (sorry guys).

[–]altaccount100002 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

We're the good guys, preventing regular folks from becoming greater fools in the bit Coin pyramid of idiocy. Bit Coin is doomed because it is useless. Bit Coiners are greedy pigs that will lose all their money in this pump & dump "investment".

[–]sciencehatesyouSorry for your loss 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Wow, what an insightful question. I bet it has never been asked before.

FTR: I love Bitcoin, the technology, and hold more than 99.9% of the Butters, even after selling some. But the morons who make up the Bitcoin community are cancer, and I'm here to make fun of them relentlessly until they decide that their efforts to turn their investment of $238.13 into $431.55 by pumping, investing in frauds and scams, and attacking anyone who points out an inconvenient truth are not going to pay off.

Also, I like watching supremely selfish libertarians slowly discover what most people figured out a long time ago: unless you organize and establish some ground rules, enforced by some people designated to make sure everyone abides by those rules, then your community falls pray to constant scams.

[–]AdequateAdhesive 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I never post here but I browse frequently. The whole block-size debate and subsequent censorship has ruined my view of bitcoin. It's as corrupt as the community. If I want an honest opinion and real information on a bitcoin topic, I usually check here first.
