/r/gamegrumps. That, or /r/Jontron. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of game grumps and Jontron, but their subreddits are just filled with obsessive, stalkery fans. And if you try to say or point out its weird to have organized folders full of game grump members pics on your pc, or an entire blog with several posts a day all about how sexy one person is or how much you love them even though you've never met them, the community will spam downvotes and rain all hell on you.

I think /r/jontron is entirely a circlejerk subreddit at this point. I don't think it's toxic, just a bit dumb for a laugh. Can't comment on /r/gamegrumps. Haven't been there in a while.

I kinda agree. I feel like with JonTron, it's the absence of new content that makes people fester. When he does put out stuff, it's really good stuff. When he doesn't, people get restless.

As for Game Grumps ... eh. I feel like it definitely caters more towards a certain audience that does get more, ahem, passionate. r/conspiracygrumps is stalkery in a much different way, though.

Honestly, I love the clusterfuck that is /r/Jontron. I love seeing everyone delve slowly into madness over the status of his release schedule.

/r/jontron is different beast though. It's essentially a circlejerk sub now. And it's glorious.

And on the 8th day, the lord said let there be shitposts, and they were swood.

I enjoy skimming /r/GameGrumps but I don't think I'll ever subscribe. It's nice to visit for discussion on an episode, but not a ton else.

I feel ashamed that GameGrumps is the way it is (the fan base). I love me some Grumps but the fan base is, in my opinion, the worst thing this side of the Milky Way. It's always some drama filled fest there. I just talked mods into adding a hover warning over the downvote button so people don't downvote because opinions can't exist at all apparently.

Gamegrumps fans are cancerous ass kissers. They zealously celebrate every hand gesture or look any of the members give like it's some sort of brilliance display. It makes you feel like you're in a cult.

/r/short. Seriously if you're a short person who wants a sense of community do not go there. It's either filled with trolls or negative Nancy's who jus serve to depress you. Feel great about yourself and love life!

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses~! I agree with the lot of you that the sub itself is depressing and borderline creepy, I didn't know so many others shared my view (shoutout to my shorties and my fellow tall people, to a better future)

I gotta say, as a short person, it's never dawned on me that I would need to browse a community full of other short people. Is /r/short mostly men?

Yup. I've heard a lot about women posting in there and then getting run out because being a short girl is fine and the real problem is that no one wants to date a short guy.

About 95% yeah :P

Yeah, I'm a short girl, and when I first joined Reddit, I subscribed, thinking it would be fun to commiserate on short people problems.

Like having to buy a stool to reach high shelves or never seeing anything at concerts or having to hem all your clothes.

Learned pretty quickly that that was NOT welcome. "You're short? Oh wait, you're a girl? Well then fuck you."

You are born with being short, but being a girl is a LIFE CHOICE.

So closed minded, Geez

I'm 5'1 and I browse r/tall because r/short is so terrible

I'm 6'4" and don't browse /r/tall because who the fuck cares?

5'10" master race. Every doorway, every piece of furniture, every vehicle, literally everything man made in the western world was designed to accommodate my completely average height. I'm not too tall to date short women, and I'm not too short to date tall women. And when I go to a store to buy clothes I can always find multiples in my size. My height has never been a positive or negative issue in my life.

/r/tall is full of original people who all have the amazing idea of 'LETS START A /R/TALL DATING'.

This is true. I'm a 5'4 guy and I didn't realize people are judging me everywhere I go until I went to r/short. They try as hard as possible to make you feel like shit. And people starting bringing up percentage facts about i only have a chance of dating 5% of women. Should have never bothered going there. Also people who are taller than 5'8 and think they're short... I don't get it you're average height..

If it makes you feel any better, my dad is 5'4" and my mom is just over 5'8". They have the happiest marriage of anybody I know. Being short isn't anywhere near as big of an obstacle as a bad attitude.

/r/tall: "oh man being tall sure is fun, look at these funny pictures that demonstrate how large I am"

/r/short: "society is fucking out to get us, normal sized people are evil and think that we're subhuman, everyone who won't date short people is fucking dirt"

I unsubbed after being there a while and if you ever try to point out anything that they have problems in other than height (i.e. maybe you're just approach was terrible, white knight persona, etc.) they will downvote you. Not to mention how they see "heightism" as an almost male thing and almost exclude females. It's just toxic.

Oh my god.. I'm 5'2" (also a girl, but I'm still pretty short) and am genuinely terrified by that community of crazy idiots. "Why won't girls love me it's my height HEIGHTISM"

Or.. You have no chill and may be legitimately insane? Maybe consider that?

And usually if you read some of their responses you find the actual deal breaker. And then it all makes sense.

[–]Koras 9

"But when I had to get a stool out to be able to reach the jar of pickled onions on the top shelf, I could tell she was repulsed by my height. She didn't even clap after I showed her just how many onions I could fit in my mouth."

FINAL EDIT: The Reddit admins have lifted the shadowban on my account. I apologize to the Reddit community for any wrong I have done. Thank you all for your assistance notifying me about the shadowban and for your support. I think /r/askreddit is a great sub and community and I hope to continue to be a participating member. If any of you have any questions regarding my shadowbanning or my comments about /r/conspiracy, I ask that you please PM me directly. Thank you.

/r/conspiracy is surprisingly very shitty. People are rude as hell and if you disagree with anything they label you as a shill. They are completely immune to reason and common sense.

Edit:
you have been banned from posting to /r/conspiracy. you can contact the moderators regarding your ban by replying to this message. warning: using other accounts to circumvent a subreddit ban is considered a violation of reddit's site rules and can result in being banned from reddit entirely.

LOL

2nd Edit: they've started their downvote campaign against me now. That's what I get for speaking my mind. All my old posts are getting down voted .

When I clicked, the first thing I read was "ISIS does not exist...." seriously, WTF!

EDIT: If you are going to make any posts to /r/conspiracy I would encourage you to be respectful and not break any rules of the sub. You are entitled to your opposing viewpoint regarding Sandy Hook but it is not appropriate to harass the sub for the sake of harassment.

I double-dog dare you to go there and make a post that says "Sandy Hook really happened, there is no conspiracy, it was just an unfortunate event."

Edit: Warning. Even though such a post is not against the subs rules, you will probably get banned very quickly.

"Also 9/11 was a conspiracy carried out by the Al Qaeda, and was not funded by the CIA, NSA, or any other US alphabet organization"

Two 9/11 truthers are on their way to a truther convention when they get into a car crash, and both die.

Both arrive before god in the afterlife. First one says, "God, before you judge me, I have just one question. What truly happened on 9/11?"

God rolls his eyes. "A group of extremists hijacked planes and flew them into the towers and pentagon."

Second truther leans over to the first one and whispers, "Damn dude. This conspiracy goes up even higher than we thought!"

What ever you do, don't post anything involving 9/11. Chemtrails and flat earth stuff is pretty much seen as stupid even there now, but for some reason they won't ever budge on 9/11 even if they are shown as a mockery. Hell, I'll even edit a post once I find it.

Just look at this...

https://www.reddit.com/r/bestof/comments/34jbpi/pvt_hudson_comments_on_top_mind_911_truther/

Why would this be surprising, I've gone on that sub and destroyed fluoride tards and ended up getting spammed with msgs about how I'm a child molester for weeks.

They're all fucking nuts.

Maybe you shouldn't have backed up your claims with that anecdote about the time you molested some children.

Yeah, I been doing it with some flat earthers. It's hard to reach them though because they once I start talking about the edge they start walking away.

I got banned from the flat earth subreddit. They really don't like it when you point out obvious flaws with the flat earth.

You're kidding me. There is a serious flat earth sub?

/r/theworldisflat

It's stupid, but entertaining.

I cannot wrap my head around the fact that some people actually believe the world is flat. My brain just defaults to "Oh, it must be trolls"

Really?

It's super easy if you play it like a bitch. Save all your claymores, C4, etc. Fight through the first stages then at the end when you're awaiting the helicopter, go hide behind the bumper cars ride, mining it and all the approaches to it with your explosives. Works every time.

God dammit now I'm gonna have to go play through that whole game again and not use that strategy on the ferris wheel level just to prove to myself that I'm not a bitch

lose 1000 karma, because you like a videogame, and the subreddit is about games

I play Destiny constantly (just finished a gaming session, actually just got Hawkmoon yesterday!) but I don't blame people for hating it. It has many many flaws. At the same time, I don't see why people can't like a shitty game. Let us like our shitty game, goddamn it.

/r/holocaust. A holocaust denial sub.

Out of the ones I actually use /r/northernireland can get pretty grim (not holocaust denial grim but still). Everyone just argues 24/7 about whether or not we should be part of the UK, there's doxxing attempts, cringy foreigners and most of all the same 12 people arguing over and over.

I think a lot of country (or region) based subreddits are quite bad.

I go on /r/unitedkingdom quite often, but I don't really enjoy it; it's just full of depression and angry politics.

[–]square_root_vegetabl 268ポイント269ポイント  (9子コメント)

Yeah, I live in Unitedkingdom and don't really enjoy it; it's just full of depression and angry politics.

I think you'd like /r/britishproblems , it's quite humorous in comparison to all the serious business.

I've always found that the geographic subreddits (cities, provinces, states, countries, etc...) tend to be a lot worse than the actual place.

Chicagoans: Polite Midwesterners.

R/Chicago: Polite Midwesterners who take out their underlying frustrations by downvoting everything.

Of the more mainstream subs, I'd have to go with /r/funny. Every time I make the mistake of going into the comments sections, it's filled with nothing but people talking about how awful the joke was and how anybody who liked it must be an idiot.

Two comments you'll see in every thread:

How is this funny?

it's not, that's why it's posted on /r/funny

And all of the people who frequent the sub can't remember the last time something funny was posted to /r/funny.

The local subreddits for "cool" cities out west like Seattle, Portland, Denver or Austin.

"Hello! I would like to move to your fair city." "GET OUT, WE'RE FULL"

Maybe I'm being too critical but you definitely won't get that reaction on /r/Cleveland

From Seattle. You seriously would not believe the number of people who move here on a whim and end up homeless. It really is an astounding never of people. I don't tell people to stay where they are because I am a transplant from Texas. I do tell them to seriously consider whether they can afford a move plus ridiculously high rent.

[–]Vladimir_Putins_Cock 41ポイント42ポイント  (2子コメント)

I live in Portland and I hate /r/Portland. It's all people complaining about everything people know us for.

/r/hawaii is similar.

Thinking of moving here? Don't its too expensive and you will end up a junkie on the streets of Honolulu. Also you will die in traffic. We're full fuck off. Come as a tourist give us your money and leave.

Unfortunately that's pretty much the mindset of Austin hipsters generally. What's even funnier is that it's usually people that have only lived there like 1-2 years that are most vocal about that shit.

/r/lemoncakes. God forbid you mention a different pastry once in a while...

/hurtinganimals

Bunch of sick fucks

Why is this allowed even? What's the difference between that and having a sub openly abusing children? Freaking sickening

Let's ban a sub-reddit where fat people are made fun of..... But dead people and killing animals is pretty tolerable...

Reddit doesn't care about content, reddit cares about negative publicity.

/r/Bad_Cop_No_Donut is pretty exasperatingly impossible to please. I'm all for exposing police abuse, but those people hate cops and no amount of evidence will stop any police-involved incident from spiraling into some sort of vast law-enforcement conspiracy.

It would almost be amusing if it weren't slightly depressing knowing these people are out there...

Protect and Serve is equally bad in the opposite direction.

It's really depressing to watch.

That sub used to be just cops talking about cop things, like /r/justrolledintotheshop is for mechanics and stuff, but ever since Ferguson and all that that sub has become ridiculous.

/r/justrolledintotheshop has turned into people seeing things on the road and thinking "wow lol this'll get me some karma" and just posting that without really even knowing what they're looking at. Just FYI the rules strictly forbid posting things you just see, the sub is specifically for things that have come into your place of business (typically mechanic shops).

[–]Ser_Rodrick_Cassel 62ポイント63ポイント  (4子コメント)

/r/relationships is terrible, for two main reasons.

the only advice they know is "dump them asap". the other day one of the top post was about a girl asking how to deal with the fact that her SO doesn't like giving oral sex. ALL top commenters (with hundreds of upvotes each) were telling her to immediately drop him, that he wouldn't change, he was terrible etc. etc. the OP replied saying that she was otherwise very happy with that relationship and that this was an isolated problem she would like to resolve. and they they downvoted HER for not agreeing that dumping him was the right choice. her comment that was simply stating that she happy with the relationship was sitting at -200 it was unbelievable.

the other reason /r/relationships is terrible is that they are the champions of what I call jerkfishing.

jerkfishing:

posters who are not looking for discussions or advice but just want to be told that they are right. it happens when someone is telling a story from their personal life and it is painfully obvious that they are embellishing every details and describing the situation in a way that there is no possible interpretation in which they are at fault. the story typically involves an antagonist (SO, relative, parent, boss) that is also obviously being embellished into being so evil and wrong that there is no way their behavior can be even partially justified. that type of posts usually doesn't even have a question in it, it just ends with a vague "did I do the right thing?" or "was I in the wrong there?".

subs that are particularly at fault for these kind of stories:

[–]EmperorEggroll 279ポイント280ポイント  (45子コメント)

/r/Pyongyang I heard about things that happen to those who speak badly abou

/r/news and /r/politics

If you disagree with anything then you are downvoted. For an anti-feminist anti-safe space they sure are a hugbox

r/Imgoingtohellforthis is basically r/coontown in disguise

What kills me about that sub is how sensitive they are when they are the butt of the joke. Don't dare make fun of whites or conservatives but bashing women, feminists and minorities is OK. They are basically psychological glass canons. They can't take what they give.

A few years ago it was kind of funny. I mean obviously all the jokes were in poor taste but that was the point, and it wasn't all geared toward black people. Then it turned into a bunch of edgy 14 year olds trying to see how many times they can say nigger, and quickly lost its value. 0/10 do not recommend.

I wouldn't call it toxic, just terrible. The most offensive thing about the content there is how banal it is.

At this point it's just fat jokes

/r/worldnews. It's always been bad, but now any article about the EU migrant crisis looks like it has been invaded by the KKK.

[–]Vladimir_Putins_Cock 245ポイント246ポイント  (11子コメント)

Summary of that subreddit - Evil jews are behind everything scary muslims are bad

So wait. Does this mean the evil Jews behind the scary Muslims then?

[–]I_have_a_user_name 23ポイント24ポイント  (0子コメント)

Funny story, if you go over to /r/conspiracy, sometimes they are. (Israel government [usually irrelevant that they are jewish] funding ISIS for national interests)

I'm not going to nominate a default (they're all pretty bad), a 'popcorn' sub where people sit there and make fun of other people (they're all toxic practically by definition) or one of the racist/xenophobic subs, because frankly they're assholes who feed off being hated.

I'm going to nominate a subreddit for a webcomic. /r/QuestionableContent. It is not a porn webcomic, before you ask. It's about a bunch of mid-20s 'hipsters' in slice of life, is remarkably friendly, accepting and outgoing and has genuinely interesting people.

The subreddit is a shithole. Its favorite activity is to post about how bad the comic is nowadays. The art apparently got worse. The writing is worse. The author is apparently an "SJW" because one of his characters is trans and another has OCD (that is portrayed as actual OCD, not 'likes to alphabetize movies"). They just exist to shit on people. Recently they were talking about how women with tattoos were not worth dating and piercings were ugly and they thought less of people who got them.

It's the most ridiculous thing ever. It's like they read the webcomic only to ironically hate everything in it.

I love that webcomic. I've been following it for years. I never thought to check to see if it has has a subreddit and now I'm very glad I didnt.

They really argue about the art getting worse? I only started reading it a couple years ago, was there a brief time when it wasn't roughly the same as now, and not that ugly awkward blocky look?

/r/canada 99% of the posts there are about politics and if you try to say anything that doesn't conform to their exact political views you will be down voted to oblivion and harassed about how dumb you have to be not to see the world the way "it truly is"

r/feminism. They have tons of subscribers, but hardly any comments because they ban almost anyone for almost any comment.

I am completely supportive of women's rights, and I got banned.

Edit: 52,000 subscribers yet the top post for the day has 12 comments.

It's tagline might as well be "A subreddit for men to explain to women what their opinion should be."

It's one of the sharpest declines I've ever seen. Maybe the sharpest decline ever.

They really probably shouldn't have became a default.

But the admins thought that if the general population of Reddit saw a subreddit that featured women's discussions they might listen respectfully, learn something, and it might change the boy's club atmosphere that pervades the defaults.

So in other words they don't use Reddit.

I love when the admins made r/twox, and even more laughably r/philosophy, into default subs. Clearly they had a vision of what they thought reddit should be, but no clue as to how to get there.

Or, you know, they wanted to look good without putting in any actual effort.

Pretty much the same reason they removed /r/atheism.

I'm quite glad they removed it as a default, not necessarily because of the content but it just seems a little offputting automatically subscribing people to belief related sub reddits, I doubt users would've been happy if they were automatically subscribed to say /r/Islam or /r/conservative

Default is the death sentence of a subreddit. IIRC most of the mods of twoX left after they became a default.

Well, now that CT and FPH are gone...I don't want to give them hits, but there's a literal nazi subreddit, some white supremacist subreddits... and of course, the hypermisogynistic red pill.

/r/foreveralone

And you'll get the point why they're alone.

I just read through this subreddit, I actually feel bad for some of them, I know a lot aren't doing anything, but I guarantee there are some "freakshows" on there that have little chance of meeting someone.

/r/leagueoflegends hands down

Lol that week where they had no mods... Too gud.

At least they were civilized enough to bury the porn/unrelated content. Their new browsers got a workout that week.

The game maybe but I wouldn't say the subreddit is toxic. Extremely circlejerky but not mean

I remember a week or two ago when Riot decided people who had been banned or chat restricted over the course of the year would not receive ranked rewards. The backlack from the sub was insane. It's really hard to get punished in League. You've got to be ruining other people's games or raging in chat on a daily basis. And yet from the upvotes and sheer number of threads it spawned, you'd think every single person on the board had been banned over the year. That's a looooot of toxic people.

Community? /r/subredditdrama threads have pretty much turned into circlejerks.

Mods? No contest, /r/offmychest. They mod like elementary school principals.

I got banned from there a while back. Funny story actually.

So I asked them why they banned users from /r/tumblrinaction, and they basically said something along the lines of it being a "racist sexist shithole." I told them I respectfully disagreed, and they called me a racist for not thinking TiA is racist. Whatever.

I then tried to post a comment somewhere in the sub a day or so later, but I had been banned, even though I hadn't posted in TiA since they created their bot that bans TiA users. I asked them what's up, and they linked me to something I jokingly said a week or so prior in /r/4chan. Keep in mind, they don't have a bot that bans /r/4chan users.

Tl;dr /r/offmychest mods went through my user history to find something they deemed offensive just so they had an excuse to ban me

I got banned recently from r/offmychest for posting in r/tumblrinaction.

The comments that were so heinously offensive and supporting a 'hate filled brigading subreddit'?

I was supporting fellow victims of rape and abuse. Explaining that it wasn't there fault and that they should get help if they needed it, along with having an awesome conversation with a fellow user who not only survived but did incredibly well to make positive changes to his life and get through his abuse. Was beautiful.

I was so dissapointed I replied to the ban and was treated rather gruffly. Just told them to have a nice day and left it at that.

Really though I was incredibly dissapointed. I get banning people from sub when they have been brigading and causing shit, but banning someone for offering help and support and a place to vent (supposedly the purpose of r/offmychest) is disgusting. You're punishing people for doing nice things for there fellow human beings which is all kinds of bullshit.

At the end of the day I much prefer r/tumblrinaction. Found lots of support and interesting discussion when talking about my problems and why seeing tumblr trivilaise them upsets me greatly, along with informing people here and there about the realities of Dissiociative Identity Disorder, got nice pleasent questions and genuine interest along with some good conversations.

/r/offmychest has literally banned more people than they have subscribers

let that sink in for a second

r/redditgetsdrawn/

But mostly the mods. There are some talented people in their who will do their best to make a nice drawing, but the mods are power hungry lunatics. They have so much bullshit rules and they will ban you for the slightest things.

Like giving feeback to the artist is simply a no-go. You must say thanks to every drawing (even if you don't like it) and if you say something vague that COULD be considered critique, you will be banned/warned.

/r/relationships. It sucks you in and I find myself reading so many stories, but goddamn is the advice terrible. Everything should lead to divorce, cutting of contact, phoning a lawyer etc and barely ever about communication.
