Hello,
Just wanted to have some better ideas on how you guys are switching between those two different PE versions at the tftp server as a third party provider.
I'm using MDT 2010 to create my light touch environments; and using zcm for the pxe part.
What I'm doing now is basicaly renaming the WinPE I want to use (either x86 or x64) to "winpe.win" so that zcm will send the desired one.
What I wanted to know is there any other way ? Like making an extra line inside the pxe menu for choosing between x86 and x64 version?
Inside the /srv/tftp/pxemenu.txt the line concerning the WinPE uses "pxelinux.0, winpe.cfg" files, any chance to edit them to acheive the desired result?
Many thanks for your kind help

I can only export reports from SSRS using the x64 version of IE (version 9). In IE 11, i can't get anything to work, so i reverted to IE. also, the link to the server works and i can export the reports in other browsers, so that's all working.
i believe the SQL server is version 2012, if that matters.
any thoughts?

Hi All,
I have very simple VBS script for reading TS variables. It worked in SCCM 2007 with no issues. In SCCM 2012 script works only in WinPE and not in Task Sequence started from Software Center. Error is missing
Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment. I tried everything with no luck.
Script:
Set objEnvironment = CreateObject("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment")
For each objVariable in objEnvironment.GetVariables
strVariables = objVariable & " = " & objEnvironment(objVariable) & vbCrLf
Next
MsgBox strVariables
Please Help.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Guys,
[SCCM 2012 SP1]
This is tested on several clean computers.
No one answer so I want to update this topic with more details. (I hope that someone will help me)
I have ~10 VB scripts that manipulate TS variables during OSD Task Sequence. VB script with code for manipulation of TS variables works normal SCCM 2012 WinPE 4.0 but same SCCM 2012 TS started in Windows from Service Center reports error. Error indicate
line in VB script where Set objEnvironment = CreateObject("Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment")
should execute.
Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment is COMObject and I also tested with PowerShell with no success.
I perform a test (when realize that normal way is not working) by starting commands in TS:
ServiceUI.exe -process:tsprogressui.exe cmd /k powershell$TSenv = New-Object -COMObject Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment
I started two command to prove that good(GREEN) and wrong (PURPLE) commands produce different output.
I also tried to register problematic DLL but with no success:
Please ... can someone show me how to further troubleshoot this problem or to inform me that there is a hotfix.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
i just found out one problem on my t400s, it randomly alters between mono and stereo sounds. any idea why that happens? i'm using win7 enterprise x64, with all the latest drivers installed (i.e. no beta drivers).

Don't pm me for help! That's what the forum is for. Also, Google's nicer than me. Ask him.
This issue seems to be similar to the "T410 Extremely Annoying Audio Issues" thread, have you tried potential solutions there? (Can't summarize it because I haven't read the thread.)

I am finding that every video I watch skips two seconds every time I switch back and forth from Full Screen mode. Happens mostly with 720p videos in YouTube.
Can be replicated by pausing the video (also possible during playback, pausing it was just to determine how long the skip is), switching to Full Screen and back, noticing the two second change on the timer.
Main operating environment is Opera browser on Windows 7 (x86), Flash ver. 11.1.102.55 and 12beta. I have also been able to replicate the problem on Internet Explorer ver. 9.0.8112.16421

I see about 30-80 MB memory usage increase while switching to fullscreen and it is falling back while switching back to normal mode.
I think the "freeing" of the memory is to agressive and produces such "lags."
@Adobe: This should be optimized with the next versions.
Update:
With the Plash Player plugin (Firefox Nightly/Opera Next) it is worse and with Active-X (IE9) it seems to be ok.
I got problem by switching loaded tabs. Example, got youtube, gmail and facebook. Everything is fine by switching except when going from youtube to facebook or some other sites. Its so slow when i click on tabs i need to wait like 1 sec to switch to it. I got Win 7 x64 ( updated ). Quad core 3.0 ghz athlon 620... 4 gb ram ddr2...

I have exported all photos and created a new library and imported everything back in and it seemed to work for a while then the crashes started again.
I have rebuilt the new library in iPhoto, used 'iPhoto Library Manager' to rebuild the library and used "Duplicate Annihilator' to remove all dupes. I've zapped the PRAM, reinstalled iLife and run permissions repair all to no avail.
Has anybody else encountered this? Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be happening?
Thanks.
I have the exact same issue. Whenever I switch to another app via the Dock, cmd-Tab, or clicking on another window, after a few seconds iPhoto crashes with no errors in the log (just a crash log). I had iPhoto Library Manager rebuild the library of 12,000 photos which took most of a day and had to restart through several crashes. The rebuilt library worked, but isn't really acceptable since it changed all the key photos on my events, lost all my facebook albums and slideshows, and seemed to ignore a few days of recent organizing and labeling.
It seems like some idle process (detecting faces maybe) is kicking in whenever iPhoto goes in the background that causes it to crash when it's backgrounded and idle.
The thread that crashed in the crash log is pretty uninformative:

Hi all,
I edit with Premiere Pro on a cylinder Mac Pro in OS X 10.10.2 (3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, 16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC, FirePro D500 3072 MB), when I was logging the footage with Excel, I noticed after a few times switching between Excel and Premiere Pro or any other apps, Premiere Pro ALWAYS crashes with the Serious Error message.
This is very disappointing and frustrating as you have to open the recovery file, which create another project file, and have to look for timecode all over again, wasted a lot of time. You would expect premiere pro to work smoothly on a Mac Pro.
Does anyone have similar experience or know a solution?
Thanks,
L

Hi Everyone,
I dug in deeper by reading the crash log and found out the reason of my crashing is mainly due to the confusion of audio output my mac has as it switch between internal speaker and line out speaker and causes the crash. Since then I had bought a DAC(Digital to Analogue Converter) and configured the audio output of premiere to the DAC and have no crashes since. Hope it helps.

Dear Intune team - on Windows 8.0 x64 computers that is itself managed by Intune I often get transitory errors in Silverlight as I switch between customers.
For the first time I was shown a log dump.
These problems have always been temporary - often closing all browsers, opening a new browser (IE10) and then opening a new session (File->New Session) solves the problem.
However not having the problem would be better :)
Since you can't fix what you can't duplicate I thought I should send you the little bit of error data that I did get -- so here it is:

Hi guys,
I was wondering if you might be able to help me with an issue I'm having. I reciently bought a new 17 inch Macbook Pro 8.3 that came pre installed with Lion. Ever since I first started it up (before I installed any apps that aren't incuded in Lion) I've been having constant but random kernel panic attacks. I had to send my MB Pro to an authorized apple service provider where they ran diagnostic tests on it and concluded that it was the logic board (motherboard) that was as seeehr germans would put it "kaput". After they replaced it with a new one and re-did the tests everything worked fine. So in my opinion waiting for a SW update to fix the issue one would have to wait an eternity. Just let the technicians take a look at it and they'll most likely replace the logic board or the entire computer depending on what makes most sense for them.
This is not a software glitch but HW. The only reason one does not experience this in bootcamp is due to no automatic graphic switching in windows. It only runs the dedicated GPU and never switches to the intergrated Intel HD3000 GPU.
Hope this gives you some clarity.
PS. I asked the technician if he could give me a detailed explanation in regards to which part of the GPU / logic board was causing the issue but he couldn't answer that question.
Technician computer is Windows 7 HP x64.
Running latest version of WAIK.
Goal: To make a Winpe disc for each processor architecture (AMD64, x86, IA64) with an included Gimage.exe using this code for the default startnet.cmd file found in system32 directory of winpe boot.wim
wpeinit
if /i %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%==amd64 (
cd x64
start gimagex.exe
if /i %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%==ia64 (
cd x64
start gimagex.exe
if /i %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%==x86 (
cd x86
start gimagex.exe
These are the commands I have processed for the x86 variant:
copype x86 c:\pe\x86\
Dism /mount-wim /wimfile:C:\pe\x86\winpe.wim /index:1 /mountdir:C:\mount
**It is at this point I copy over my x86 folder, x64 folder, and overwrite the startnet.cmd file.
dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:C:\mount /commit
oscdimg -n bc:\pe\x86\etfsboot.com c:\pe\x86\iso c:\pe\x86.iso
^^It is at this command I receive this error:
ERROR: Could not delete existing file "c:\pe\x86\iso"
Error 5: Access is denied.
Please note that all commands before were hand-typed, no copy or pasting from any directory or .chm
One thread referred to some Application Management service, but I can report that there is no such service installed in my machine.
Thank You!
UPDATE:
I copied the winpe.wim file from the x86 root directory into the iso directory and renamed it to boot.wim Now, if I copy the contents to a flash drive and put it into a client
computer, it boots to the PE perfectly, script and all.
However, when trying to use the oscdimg command, I do get an .iso successfully, but when I burn it, I don't know what to do in the way of boot options, and if I keep defaults (imgburn)
it results in an un-bootable dvd.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Don't copy and paste instead type manually it will work.
[email protected]
OMG! Yes, you are correct ... but I have no idea why! I retyped the command line:
oscdimg -n -be:\winpe_amd64\etfsboot.com e:\winpe_amd64\ISO e:\winpe_amd64\winpe_amd64.iso
into Notepad, and then pasted it into the Command Prompt, and it worked!
Perhaps there must be some hidden characters included when pasting directly, even though I first pasted the command line into Notepad, and then into Command Prompt
(C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools>).
I had to retype the command line in Notepad before copying and pasting, before it would work.
Wow, thanks!
Cheers, Navy Flyer
Hi.
On win8.1 x64 enterprise (fully patched, including all optional updates to-date), I have found a slight incompatibility with outlook 2010 (x86, sp2). If anybody would like to reproduce it, here are the steps:
First, make sure that the Reader app is your default pdf viewer. Now open outlook and take a message with a pdf attachment. Right click the attachment and select "quick Print". Expected behavior: the attached pdf is sent to your default printer.
Instead, nothing happens.
If I set Adobe Reader as default pdf viewer, it works as expected.
Please be aware that the cause is related to the reader app which is not started by outlook. In order to quick print, the pdf reader would need to be started first, as observed with adobe reader: it flashes up briefly before printing starts.
So the problem is with either outlook or with the way win8.1 manages calls from program to program - I don't know. Please note it has nothing to do with the model of the printer, it happens with all printers, even virtual ones.
If we think of companies adopting win8/8.1, this is really annoying, as it will require them to install a 3rd party reader.
Please look for a solution. If I should report it anywhere, just say where.
Hi,
I made a test on our test enviroment, Windows 8.1 X64 Enterprise, Office 2010 PRO SP2.
There is no problem to printing as you description. You may need to consider if this is Office problem.

Hi,
I'm trying to download Windows Symbols on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg463028.aspx.
I saw version like :
Windows
7 Service Pack 1 x86 checked symbols, all languages (File size: 294 MB)
Windows
7 Service Pack 1 x64 retail symbols, all languages (File size: 287 MB)
What's the difference between the "checked" version and "Retails" version of Symbols?
thanks!

The Windows symbols are made available for debugging the operating system itself. Windows is available as a

checked version (which does include all of the debugging informations produced by the compiler and whose binary code is optimized for speed and performance). You can read more about the checked build version of Windows
here.
Those symbols packages will not help you to debug a Windows application, because they contain the debugging informations for the operating system itself.

A few years back I had created and customized a WinPE 3.1 bootable USB media that worked pretty well for my support needs for Win XP and Win 7. I had one for the X86 and one for the
X64. I must say mostly used on Win XP before corporate client had no choice then to migrate to Windows 7.
Unfortunately, it does not seem to work on new Win 8.1 PCs with UEFI and secure boot.
In the boot manager I do not see my WinPE bootable Media as a possible USB boot device. Why?
So I started researching forums on the WEB. I must say that I am overwhelmed by all the information gathered on the WEB. I think that I have the information, but I need the glue to put
it together.
What I am looking is for a flexible tool that will work on Win 7 and Win 8 and possibly on the occasional WinXP.
We now have WinRE and WinPE.
My understanding is that WinRE is to restore or refresh a damage installation from most likely:
1-a hidden partition from the hard drive that contains the factory default configuration, if the entire hard drive is not fried,
2- a previously created image file
3- a valid install.wim file retrieved from the Windows 7/8 installation DVD.
Right? The last two could be restored with a WinPE right?
From what I have read, to get a better tool we need to customise the WinRE to include the WinPE tools.
So what is the difference between WinRE and WinPE? There must be a difference in the boot of the WinRE vs WinPE? Which tool is preferable? Should we have both in different partitions of a USB
Hard Drive?
I have retrieved the Boot.wim and Install.wim files from the Windows 8 iso file.
The install.wim needs to be copied to the Boot.wim of WinPE? it does not make sense to me.
An other confusion in my mind is with the AIK installation Windows Automated Installation Kit and the ADK
Windows Assessment & Deployment Kit.
The last time for WinPE 3.0/3.1, I installed the AIK for Windows 7. It was a 1.9 Gig installation file. From that installation I got the files... [Show more]
Hi,
Here is the information about Windows PE:
(WinPE) Windows PE 5.0 (WinPE) is a small operating system used to install, deploy, and repair Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, and other Windows operating systems. See:
WinPE for Windows 8.1: Windows PE 5.1
For the versions of Windows PE, please check here:
What's New in Windows PE
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) is a recovery environment that can repair common causes of unbootable operating systems. Windows RE is based on Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE), and can be customized with additional
drivers, languages, Windows PE Optional Components, and other troubleshooting and diagnostic tools. More information, see:
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) Overview
For how to create a USB Bootable drive of Windows 8/8.1, please see:
WinPE: Create USB Bootable drive
For the system that has UEFI, to install Windows on it we need the USB drive
is at least 4GB, and FAT
formatted. See: Windows Setup: Installing using the MBR or GPT partition style, that's why the WinPE bootable Media doesn't work here.
If any further questions, please feel free to ask.

I am creating a reference disk in Virtualbox that is Win7 and customized with the applications I would like for a standard image. I am trying to capture the image using imagex which is being loaded from an iso file. I first tried just writing the wim file
to the VMs drive to later copy it to wherever I wanted it. I got to 90% and then it failed because of insufficient disk space. I didn't try writing the wim to a network repository because I already attempted that and the network connections are too slow, something
not in my control. Is there a way to get Winpe to recognize a USB hard drive? Alternatively is it perhaps possible to "network" the write of the wim file to a folder on the host computer? I realize this is somewhat a mixed question between MS Winpe
and Oracle Virtualbox, I so want to move to HyperV! Thanks for any help :)
Hi! Ive been using virtualbox for many years to create my image. Please make sure you install the "Guest Additions". This will enable you to insert a usb and you will have to go to devices-->usb devices and select your usb drive in WinPE mode.... This
will allow you to choose the correct drive letter using imagex.
Hi Forum
Deploy and Capture: Windows 7 x64
SCCM Primary single site server: Server 2012 R2
Version: SCCM 2012 R2 w/ CU1
Environment is Hyper-V on Windows 8.1, deploying to a Gen1 VM with a legacy adapter.
I am running into an issue whilst building a lab environment. I have built a Capture and Deploy TS (using the standard TS, ie not MDT although this is integrated) and deployed to an imported machine using the MAC address via PXE. Custom Client package has
been created and put against the TS.
The machine picks up the PXE response and boots into the SCCM WinPE environment and I choose the TS. The only currently available TS is the Build and Capture.
It runs through the TS restarting at various points as expected and then after the Client Manager package is installed it restarts and runs the TS... at this point it starts saying. "Initiating Hardware Devices.." (or something to that effect).
It does this for about 15 seconds before I get this error:
Windows PE initialization failed with error code 0x8022001B
Seen here:
I am unable to get the cmd prompt up at this point and it will restart and carry on a normal build, no TS running, meaning no capture.
If any can advise, please do.
Thanks in advance
NN
Hyper-V should work fine without any drivers injected, and you did your VM correctly.
During this error, what you see in a back ground, ConfMgr wallpaper or Windows 7 black first-run screen "preparing/first run"? I´m just thinking, is there any chance, that you have additional restart step set to boot to WinPE, instead of booting
to default OS?
Otherwise, you will need to be able to Access CMD with F8 for more troubleshooting. Make sure you have F8 command Support enabled on boot image and re-distrubute it. Or create new boot image as Peter suggested.
I have the choice and I don't know what is it. I will use bootcamp principally for playing video games.
in my opinion, most games in today's day and age would run better in 32-bit. moreover, your common apps and software as well as drivers will run better with 32-bit OS.
since you'll be playing a lot of games and probably won't need like 6-8GB of memory, my suggestion would be get the 32-bit installed.
however, if you do have intention to upgrade the macbook with more than 4-Gb of RAM, it'll be good to use the 64-bit OS...
note that a 64-bit OS with 4-gB or ram may run faster than a 32-bit OS with 4-gB of RAM. However, the expense is the possibility that there may be incompatibilities in the days to come.
Dear All,
we have doing a migration from and BW older system with x86 32 bits and W2000server/SQL2000server with BW 3.1C, so the target system is an AMD machine x64 64 bits wih Operating system 2003server/SQL2000server and BW 3.1C.
we have been talking with SAP OSS support and the conclusion is that this configuration is not supported for SAP for BW 3.1c SQL2000 and W2003server with x64.
Nevertheless we need to do this migration because after the migration we have to do an upgrade to BI 70/SQL2005 and W2003 in this machine
The problem here is the SAPinst for BW 3.1c is for x86-32bits and not for x64-64bits, so do you know some way of do that, I mean if we can use some sapinst diferent for do the installations, or if someone already did this migration before???
Best Regards and thanks very much
Ernest,
I think you are stuck in terms of your current strategy. SAP does not have a 64 bit kernel for BW 3.1 on an NT platform. What you'll most likely need to do is to upgrade the SAP system to a release that has a 64 bit NT kernel - BI 7.0 on the WAS700 kernel. The problem you'll run into here is that you'd be attempting to get a BW 3.1 system onto a 64 bit OS and only have a 32 bit kernel for the SAP system - this will lead to myriad of technical issues that you do not want to contend with I'm sure.
Otherwise, you'll run into the issue of not having the proper kernel components to make the jump. While sometimes it is necessary to move briefly to an unsupported platform combination to get to the OS/DB platform you need, you have to make sure that there are technical tools from SAP available first.
You may need to rethink the strategy here and make sure that for each jump, you'll have the tools needed.
Please let me know how this works out for you - I'm sure that in the near future, many of us will also need to contend with such an situation.
Cheers,
Tim
I need to distinguish between SCCM clients who have Office 2010 x64 and those who have Office 2010 x86 version.
I have tried creating a collection with query-based-membership looking at all computers with ARP64 Display name like Office 2010.
I have also tried creating a report with the same query basics. The query shows different machine lists than the collection looking for the same information. Also, I am looking for the WinWord.exe path, which for x64 version of Office on Win
7 x64 should be "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 14". However, I find that file in the "c:\program files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office 14". So the query returns the machine as having Office x64, but the Office EXEs
are all in the c:\program files (x86)\ folders instead.
Should I trust the report for the inventory? I have done a spot-check on some computers (18 of 222), and it's not always true that they have x64 version of Office installed.
What's a girl to do?
thanks,
Azin

I suggest you create a compliance base line and deploy it to the collections. The compliance will check whether the clients are running Office x64. If not, it will report as non-compliant, then you can create Collection based on this info.

We have a working OSD environment with x86. So basically the Windows 7 x86 WinPE x86. We are moving to Windows x64, I imported the x64 image and created a package for Windows x64. My question is what do I do with WinPe do I need x64 WinPE. We have MDT 2010
integrated with SCCM do I need to generate new x64 WinPE, if so does anyone have any suggestion on how to do that.

I created USB WinPE key using x64 boot image.
It worked 2 times. I connected to MDT share and deployed images on Lenovo E455 that uses Realtek driver.
MDT server and computers are on the same LAN. (new office with no vLANs)
What is weird that now I am trying to boot the same machine and get:
"A connection to the deployment share could not be made. Cannot reach deploy root.
Possible cause network routing error or network configuration error. "
Don't think USB key is a problem.
When F8, I get APIPA...
Any driver was not imported to boot images. It is fresh MDT2013
In Out of box created DriverGroup001. Updated DS but don't think it could affect boot images.
And as mentioned it worked find I booted the machine. All my Out of box were installed correctly.
What could happen with the Boot image?
Thanks.

Here is the bdd. Looks like it not seeing NIC. Or the driver is not loaded first or it really not detects physically the NIC. And It did work few times. And other machine with the same NIC did the same. But running well from F12.

Hello,
Trying to boot from USB into WinPE. Prepared the key with diskpart, used copype.cmd to copy the files and copied the litetouch_x64.wim from the deployment share to the sources folder on the key. It boots ok, but the Litetouch vbs never launches, instead
the pc just reboots.
If I hit F8 I get both IP and can confirm local disk is visible.
Any ideas what might be wrong. What log file can i check.
thanks
If you are sure about your rule file, boostrap, task sequences and so on, i would regenerate the boot file
1) In the MDT Deployment Workbench MMC, right click the deployment share and select “Properties”.
2) On the “Windows PE x86 Settings” and/or “Windows PE X64 Settings” tabs, ensure that you have checked “Generate
a Lite Touch bootable ISO image”.
3) On the “Windows PE x86 Components” and/or “Windows PE x64 Components” tabs, ensure that, at minimum the check
boxes to include all network drivers and mass storage drivers are checked.
3) Click OK.
4) Right click the deployment share and select “Update Deployment Share” and complete the update wizard.
Then burn the ISO to your USB drive, this is the method i use: http://scriptimus.wordpress.com/2011/06/21/mdt-2010-create-a-lite-touch-deployment-usb-drive-again/
Hello,
I am trying to create a bootable USB drive with WinPE and have already downloaded and installed Windows ADK. When I try to run the copype command I get the following error whether I use x86 or amd64.
ERROR: The following processor architecture was not found: amd64 (or x86).
Does the USB creation need to be done from the computer that I eventually want to boot the USB drive from?
Hi javier,
We hope your issue has been resolved, if you've found solution by yourself. We would appreciate it if you could share with us and we will mark it as answer.
Since other users reported that same issue could be caused by not running this command in Deployment and imaging command prompt as mentioned by Adam, we suggest check on that first.

Hello,
I'm trying to image HP 215 with Windows 8.1 x64. A batch of about 20 worked as expected but I came in on a Monday to continue imaging and nothing would work again. The smsts log states
- unable to find raw disk that could be partitioned as system disk
- failed to prepare system partition for staging
- failed to stage winpe
I tried opening diskpart, sel disk 0, clean, and continue to receive this error.
I also tried recreating the boot image as this happened before and that seemed to help with the issue. This time, after recreating the boot image, 2 of the laptops imaged as expected and the rest would not.
I've ensured there is network connectivity. I have also loaded the AMD SATA controllers onto the boot image as some posts have suggested.
I'm out of ideas.... anybody ever run into this and have any suggestions.

Best, Jacob I'm a PC.
I'm having major problems with installing the NIC driver when I deploy my OS.
So far the problem is with Lenovo M78 and L540.
I have a WinPE folder in my OOB, with the correct .inf files and a winPE folder in selection profiles.
The way I extract drivers is I build a Image on a physical computer so all the drivers are installed with no error.
I then use Driverbackup and Double driver to extract the driver and the import them into MDT.
So the drivers should be correct.
Also according to pcivendor it should be the correct one.
I regenerate my deployment share and then take the LitetouchPE_86.wim and copy it to my USBstick and rename to Boot.wim. (my pxeboot is not working)
On the M78 it's this driver I'm having problems with, but it should be the correct one.
pci\ven_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_308917AA&REV_04
When I deploy the Image and select my TS etc it starts deploying, but stops when it's wants to install drivers for the OS With this error message
" A connection to the deployment share (*****deploymentshare$) could not be made.
The following networking device did not have a driver installed
pci\ven_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_308917AA&REV_04"
The weird thing is that when I install the exact same driver that I use in my winpe in OOB, (by hand on the client) the deployment will continue and will finish,,, with warnings though.
It seems like the drivers are not being injected to my boot.wim.
I have check the Driverstore\filerepository and the NIC are there but only as a .sys, not as a .inf
I'm using MDT 2013 only (no WDS etc.)
Client is win7 x86
Lenovo M78 and L540
Sorry I have been going at this for almost 18 hours, so there maybe grammar and typo through out my post.
Link to all the logs will come up later when my account is approved, sorry.
Can anybody verify that I'm using the correct driver.
I'm getting this error and can't seem to get it to work.
"A connection to the deployment share (*****deploymentshare$) could not be made.

Hi There,
I have a PXE boot server that is in testing at the moment. I have a script that runs to create a wim file of someones computer and collects the required applications they needs and stores it on our server.
During this process it also uploads a selection on our PXE boot server (debian based) for them to choose their newest install from. (This has been chosen as there are only 7 of us in the company - all IT based people). When the Windows 7 (wim) image
is selected it loads perfectly fine into iPXE which then loads WinPE.
It's at this point I get a black cmd console with wpeinit in there and nothing loading. Can some one please advise?

Hi Tripredacus,
Ok so;
A Winpe created with Copype will only boot to the command prompt and do nothing else.
If this is the case, could you advise me which tool I should use to make an installable version?
Now;
First I am confused as to why you are building a WinPE on the fly every time... but also I see no customisation added.
Mount your image and take a look-see at your startnet.cmd.
I am not creating an image on the fly each time, I want to have a method to create an image, IF needed, on the fly where by the 3 sections of our company can add applications where relevant.
I have 4 scripts that run throughout this process.
Creates a general image wim/boot per above
Does this person want to create a full customized image (with applications) or not- if so open the second script and prompt for 'customization' (this is done using "CALL" command)
Start the 3rd script and close the first script (with START command). Tidy up the files used from mounting copy and place on the server for boot options remove all previous files from original location
Start the last script and close the third. Insert the code used for pxe booting to the correct config files.
Hopefully that clears it up a little bit. The main focus for me is script 1 and 2 (3 and 4 work perfectly fine). In saying this, you mention startnet.cmd. I have looked at this file and the only thing in there is the wpeinit called by the cmd. Is this
not meant to load the installation? If not what is? and How do I get it working?
The batch files (1 and 2) pretty much just run your regular process outlined here: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709665%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/hh241307.aspx
Clearly something in there doesn't allow me to boot, so what is it?
Hello,
Can someone tell me the difference between Adobe Photoshop Extended CS5 x64.exe and Adobe Photoshop Extended CS5 x86.exe
Thanks for your help.
Bye,

Hi,
I have a C# application that I would like to test using MS Fakes. The C# application uses a managed C++ library where I can't use MSIL / "Any CPU". Therefore in the configuration manager I have setup a x64 and x86 build.
The problem I have now is that everytime I compile the test-application for the client I get a "There was a mismatch between the processor architecture of the project being built 'MSIL'". The problem seems to be the fakes that are generated that
always seen to match the oppsoite architecture whatever I do.
I found that adding the following Compilation-property to the Fakes-XML makes it work for a specific architecture:
<Fakes xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/fakes/2011/">
<Assembly Name="Client"/>
<Compilation>
<Property Name="PlatformTarget">x64</Property>
</Compilation>
</Fakes>
If I add the "<Compilation>"'tag with "x64" for all the Fakes-XML files it would work for x64 wihtout any warning. If I added "x86" instead it would work for x86. The problem is that the XML is the same for both architecture
types so I need to make it more generic instead of choosing one architecture. I tried using macro like "$(Platform)" in the "<Property>" but that seems to always be x86 when compiled. Is there something I can do about this?
I tried using the following statement in the project-file but for some reason the warnings are not suppressed.
<PropertyGroup>
<ResolveAssemblyWarnOrErrorOnTargetArchitectureMismatch>
None
</ResolveAssemblyWarnOrErrorOnTargetArchitectureMismatch>
</PropertyGroup>
Is there any way to get rid of this problem?
Hi Pettor,
Do you develop unit test with Fakes? If this is the case, I would recommend you to the unit test forum for help. The link as below:
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=vsunittest

Hello,
What is the command to find out if my Windows 2008 Server version is X86, X64 or IA64?
I know winver command, but it is gives the Windows version and SP Level. It does not tell me, if my windows is X64 or IA64.
Does anyone know the command to find out the difference? (Please note that in service.sap.com/swdc, we have different support packages for SAP Netweaver components, that are installed on X64 and IA64).
Also what is the difference between x64 and IA64?
Thanks,
Haleem

There still seems to be a bit of confusion over the identity of 64-bit processors for Windows operating systems. Windows runs on two types of 64-bit processor, identified as x64 and IA-64.
Going with the oldest first, IA-64 stands for Intel Architecture, 64-bit and was Intelu2019s attempt to move to a 64-bit architecture. It remains compatible with 32-bit user-mode code through hardware emulation, but this hardware emulation performs so poorly relative to a genuine x86 that all operating systems shipping for IA-64 now include a software x86 emulation called IA-32 EL. IA-64 is the instruction set; the family of processors which implement it are named Itanium (which youu2019ll see critics refer to as Itanic, suggesting that itu2019s sinking) and so youu2019ll sometimes see code written for them referenced as Itanium Processor Family or IPF. You need a new operating system to run any code on an Itanium u2013 it cannot boot a 32-bit operating system.
x64 is actually a Microsoft term and stands for Extended 64. It is implemented by both AMD and Intel who respectively call it AMD64 and EM-64T (Extended Memory 64 Technology). AMD invented it as extensions to the existing x86 architecture. An x64-capable processor natively implements x86 in hardware u2013 it is an x86 processor, with additional modes. It boots up in the same 16-bit u2018real modeu2019 that an x86 does. It can run existing 32-bit operating systems. You may well have an x64-capable processor without realising it. All AMD Athlon 64 and <a href="http://techtalk4you.com/">Opteron</a> processors, and Intel Pentium 4, Pentium D and Xeon processors built within about the last year, implement x64. To check whether your Intel processor supports x64, use Intelu2019s Processor Identification Utility.
Itanium had the early lead and for a while held the general performance crown, but the relentless increase in x86 clock speed... [Show more]
My problem:
I have VisualStudio 2013 installed in Windows 7 and every single compile with Platform toolset set to the default "Visual Studio 2013 (v120)" fails when compiling for x64.
Errors are like: Error 1 error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp_EncodePointer referenced in function pre_c_init C:\test_cmake\CMakeFiles\CMakeTmp\MSVCRTD.lib(crtexe.obj) cmTryCompileExec2381261289
So I enabled detailed build output and noticed the following LIB= line:
LIB=E:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\VC\lib\amd64;E:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\VC\atlmfc\lib\amd64;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\lib\winv6.3\um\x86;lib\x64;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\lib\x64;C:\Program
Files (x86)\Microsoft DirectX SDK (June 2010)\Lib\x64
When you look carefully you'll see there is this part in it which points to the x86 folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\lib\winv6.3\um\x86;lib\x64;
I suspect the lib\x64 behind it might be an artifact (or maybe it's unrelated).
So for testing I renamed the um\x64 folder to um\x86 - and then 64-bit builds finally worked.
But that's a bad workaround (would have to rename folders each time when switching 32-bit and 64-bit). I tried reparing VS and I tried de-installing and re-installing it. But that problem didn't go away.
So I searched where this values is coming from. The non architecture-specific part seems to come out of %WindowsSdkDir which is set in the registry. And there is .bat file to set it for console applications. But vcvars64.bat also looks correct on me on first
view, containing that line: @set "LIB=%WindowsSdkDir%lib\winv6.3\um\x64;%LIB%"
So I suspect VS IDE does set that x86 x64 value in another way. But that's where I run into a dead-end - I simply can't figure out where it's from. Can anyone help me?
Can this be in your local property sheets? See
this thread.
Hi,
Whats are the difference's between Reboot and Shutdown in winpe environment ? and how it affects drivers mainly the drivers which needs to flush buffers on persistent media ? do they get chance to flush things and close gracefully ??

We're moving our Oracle database from Windows Server x86 to a Windows Server 2003 x64 with an Oracle 10.2.0.3 x64 Database. Some users need to select/insert from/to a MS Access file on a remote computer; which works fine on our x86 system.
The problem is that I can't access the ODBC within Oracle database. I keep getting the following error :
Error : ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 12564
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from SPHINX
I created the %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin\initSPHINX.ora file ( HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = SPHINX ). I also add a System DSN SPHINX to the remote file in the x86 ODBC Administrator (%WINDIR%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe)
Oracle home : C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1
Oracle Inventory : C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory
MS Access File : \\remotefiles\importexport.mdb (I also tried to mount the directory in Y:\ )
System DSN : SPHINX
Here's a view of the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora :

I tnsping SPHINX with the result OK on port 1551.
Does anyone have any clue ? Maybe the ODBC driver for MS Access can't be use in a x64 Database !?! Please I need help.

I kind of managed a solution :
I created a 32-bits ODBC connection to MS Access.
I installed Perl x86 on the local system
Created a Perl Script that reads from a file an insert the record into MS Access (ODBC).
Finally, I created an Oracle Proc that write the proper record into a file and execute a Scheduler job that launch the PERL script.
Thank you for your help.
Hi,
We are deploying Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64 on UEFI x64 architecture locked tablets with WinPE version 5.1 x64. It's not possible to deploy these tablets using a WinPE x86 version (legacy boot option is also not available in these UEFI models).
We have an internal tooling set which is used in the WinPE environment. These tools are written in 32 bit (x86 architecture). For the moment we cannot re-write the toolset in x64 yet.
The default WinPE 5.1 x64 boot image does not support Wow64 (x86) applications.
Is there a way to enable Wow64 support in WinPE 5.1 x64? I know Win8.1SE does the trick but we want to build our own WinPE boot.wim file starting from a default MS boot image (Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64).
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

It is not officially supported.
That being said, they are a few different PE builder projects that do add in wow64 support. A good collection of links are posted here:
http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/167983-how-to-add-wow64-to-simple-win8pe/
Note that all these projects are for research purposes only. I would not recommend using any of these in a production environment.
Hello all,
I am using XPS 14.4 on a x64 machine and I have a design which is failing timing contraints. However, when using the same design on a x86 machine, I do not have the problem.
How is that possible? Thank you for your answers.
Kind regards
You could try to run the 32-bit version of XPS on the 64-bit machine to see if you get the same results. It's possible that there are differences in the random seed functions used for initial placement. I don't know if it's easy to change in XPS, because I've always used ISE as the top level design, but you could also try changing the cost table placement starting value (-t command line option for map). Running from ISE, I would normally use SmartXplorer to do this automatically.
Read other 8 answersHya,
We have many different types of device on the network, dell, hp etc and when you download the drivers from the manufacturer you can download WinPE files.
We have created many driver packages but have not injected any drivers into the boot images by using the wizard.
Can we inject the different types of Win PE files into the 2 existing boot files(x86 & x64) and if so what is the best approach?
cheers Mike
As Torsten said the usual method is test each hardware type with the 'out of the box' images and note any exceptions. It's probably useful for you to enable command line support in the images so you can hit F8 and do any troubleshooting you might need to
do. Generally though as Torsten says you would only add network and storage drivers.
This is a very basic question. I have sun ultra 60 and wanted to download solaris 10. I am asked to choose between sparc and x86/x64? Which install shall I choose? If you have more time than you can explain difference between x86/x64. Thanks in advance.
You would need sparc for an Ultra 60.
The (current) Sparc is a 64bit risc chip built by Sun, x86 is the wintel standard that is built by a variety of manufacturers for mostly linux and windows machines (and now apple).
I run Sol 10 on both a P4 x86 and a couple of multi processor Sun Sparc machines. As an end user there is not much you will notice until you begin to look for software or if you have a multiple processor system (likely in an ultra 60 I believe) you will notice a very nice usability boost when the system is under load and you are trying to work.
Also, you want at least 512 megs of ram for sol 10 on sparc.
Hey guys and girls
Have had Arch running smoothly for a few months now and have avoided posting for minor issues, because your forums are so ace and have been able to find everything I need. Have to say out of all the distros that I've tried Arch simply rocks, especially the AUR!
Anyway, point of post is this. I'm running KDE and have had similar problems with all the distros I've tried. My machine is a Dell L501X with a Nvidia GT435 graphics card. When I plug my external monitor in (via DisplayPort) it is detected and I can extend it to that monitor, both via randr and via TwinView.
The problem is that it randomly switches off extended monitor and either mirrors display or switches between 1 active monitor on either laptop or external. This behaviour can be provoked by a random key press, waking up from sleep, or a butterfly flapping its wings on the far side of the galaxy.
I'm using the Nvidia 319 drivers which I understand have RandR 1.4 support.
Can anyone suggest what might cause this behaviour? Where would be a good start to debug this? How I might stop it?

It is possible to install XP Pro 32 or 64 bit on Lenovo PC's and laptops in most instances. I recently converted a Lenovo H430 PC from Windows 7 to Windows XP Pro SP2 x64. Logically you need to back up all the data you want to restore after the conversion as well as determine what is inside your PC / laptop in advance, download the drivers for the platform you want to install (32 or 64 bit) and then install XP. It is also important to note if your BIOS have an option to change between IDE and AHCI mode for your hard drive controller, if no option is available you cannot install XP unless you integrate the appropriate AHCI driver with the NLite utility! However if you can locate the necessary drivers for the components in your PC and integrate the AHCI driver (if required) with NLite XP will function very well on Lenovo products.
Read other 1 answerWe're attempting to certify our software with Windows Server 2008 x64 and want to know the best way to configure both the server and client of Crystal Reports Server Embedded. Currently, our software is certified against Windows Server 2003 x86, and we install Crystal Reports Server Embedded XI Release 2 (no SP) on the application server, and we deploy the Crystal Reports .NET merge modules for XI Release 2 (no SP) on any client machines.
I believe I am correct in stating that no version of Crystal Reports Server Embedded officially supports Windows Server 2008 x64 (based on some other forum postings) until SP1 comes out (which I don't think has happened at this point). If that is true, we can live with installing the RAS on a separate Windows Server 2003 x64, if that's even possible. With that said, can we even get our Windows Server 2008 x64 running with the latest Crystal Reports 2008 .NET merge modules? We've tried many different configurations between CR XI R2 SPs and CR 2008 for both client and server and have very little luck (either it won't install correctly because of x64 or missing .cabs, etc.) on both the client and server side of things.
Can someone suggest the optimal configuration when Windows Server 2008 x64 is in the mix, noting that we can use a secondary Windows Server 2003 (x64 preferred but can fallback to x86)? Or do we have to wait for Crystal Reports Server Embedded 2008 SP1 to be released, and if so, does anyone know of the date?
Thanks,
Ross Beehler
CRSE 2008 is a 32 bit app, it works on 64 bit OS's but all parts must also be running in 32 bit mode.

Hi,
UEFI BIOS Version: GWET23WW (1.23)
I have managed to implement drivers in a different way. I have created a package containing all drivers and placed it in a part of task sequence running inside installed operating system instead of running in WinPE. There is a script inside a package looking like this:
Start /w .\win\Chipset\setup.exe -s
Start /w pnputil -i -a .\WIN\TXEI\INF\TXEI.inf
Start /w setup.exe -SILENT
Start /w .\WIN\Audio\setup.exe /s
Start /w .\WIN\Bluetooth\setup.exe /s
Start /w .\WIN\Fingerprint\WBF_SPI_DDK_Extended_Setup.exe /s
Start /w .\WIN\GPS\setup.msi /qn
Start /w .\HOTKEY\setup.exe /S /B /H
pnputil -i -a .\WIN\MONITOR\TPLCD.INF
Start /w .\WIN\NFC\setup.exe /s
Start /w .\WIN\PMDriver\setup.exe -S -SMS
Start /w .\WIN\WLAN\setup.exe -s
reg import .\OSFIXES\ALSOR\ALSOR_Apply.reg
For anyone interested just make sure you follow correct paths to executables as presented in this script.
After running it I am left with Security Device unrecognized in Device Manager so I have to add another task sequence for Restart and than another one with a line with a package for Security Device and runing this as a command: pnputil -i -a TXEI.inf
Using regular pre-driver deploy task sequence commands in WinPE enviorenment unfortunately didn't helped so I have ended with workarounds presented here.
If anyone can add something to this I will be more than glad to hear.

Hi Julian,
You can not run as mentioned during the upgrade. But after upgrade you can point an agent from OMS to another using the following document:
How to Point an Agent to a Different Grid Control OMS and Repository? (Doc ID 413228.1)
NOTE: Please make a note this above procedure is valid only for 10g & 11g agents. In 12C this procedure is not valid.

So... I just upgraded to SCCM 2012 R2 and MDT 2013. Now when I go to create a new MDT Boot Image, I get a error where the MDT toolset can not find "C:\Tools\PETools\x86\WinPE_FPs." Why is my x64 MDT looking for x86 files? I am extremely confused
as to why this is happening. Any help would me much appreciated.

I've probably missed something, but this driver version was not in the list of new drivers presented in the Lenovo System Update program; I found it via an internet search for recent results for the keywords "lenovo switchable graphics driver" (or something similar, I don't actually remember).
Why did I bother updating, especially since misbehaving video driver updates are usually very hard to recover from?
Last year's drivers had the following small flaws (among others) for me: Firefox 4 would occasionally crash using the accelerated ATI graphics, while Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 was limited to software rendering. I tend to keep firefox open all the time, and it would almost invariably crash when switching from ATI to Intel (or vice-versa) graphics adapter: I believe that, in theory, this switch is supposed to be hidden from applications (it occurs below the windows graphics compositing layer), but obviously something wasn't quite right--usually I'd close Firefox before making the switch, but sometimes I forget... Also, websites are doing complicated stuff with Adobe Flash that can benefit from hardware acceleration--I wasn't sure if it was really hardware accelerated or not.
Also, there was a differenc... [Show more]
we just encountered a very strange bug in SCCM 2012 R2 OSD / ADK. After the migration of our SCCM 2012 infrastructure to 2012 R2 the OSD stopped to work on Lenovo devices (x230, S20, S30, ...). Everytime after applying the image and installing the device
drivers the windows 7 minisetup stopped with a bluescreen (0x000000F4). We didn't change drivers or the windows 7 image. All that was different was an updated WinPE to version 5 (incl. ADK 8.1).
We use one single task sequence to deploy x64 and x86 W7-installation. So we have a x86 boot-image in use. After extensive testing over the last few days we can confirm that the BSOD only happens with a x86 boot-image. It doesn't happen with a x64 boot-image.
It also didn't help to change/update drivers. It look like DISM is doing something vey strange on those lenovo devices. We also have HP devices but they don't seem to have this problem at all.
Can someone else confirm this? Somehow i can't find any other reports about this and i thought our configuration would be prety common.
i'm going through the memory.dmp with windbg now. that's what i got so far.

Hello everybody,
I am having a problem with an application called eDrawings (Solidworks). I sequenced the application, and it works just fine, when distributing the application with an App-V management server. Also, clicking on a .dwg file (which is associated with the program)
makes the application start and open the file, like it should.
However, when distributing the package with SCCM, the shortcut on the client with start VAppLaucher.exe, instead of sfttray.exe. Ofcourse, this is normal, but it seems to cause a problem. The application starts, and I can open a *.dwg file by clicking on
File -> Open. But when I click on a .dwg file, the application starts, and gives an error: "Unsupported file type". It looks like a wrong parameter is given to the application, but I can't figure out what is going wrong.
I did a few tests manually by typing in commands in cmd.exe to see what works on the client, and what doesn't:
This command line gives the error:
C:\Windows\CCM\VAppLauncher.exe /launch "SolidWorks eDrawings 2012 x64 Edition 12.4.0_v01" "C:\Users\theo\Desktop\Test.dwg"
The following command doesn't produce the error, the program opens the file like it should:
sfttray.exe /launch "SolidWorks eDrawings 2012 x64 Edition 12.4.0_v01" "C:\Users\theo\Desktop\Test.dwg"
This command, copied and pasted out of the VirtualApp.log file, DOES work, the app opens the file the way it should:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Application Virtualization Client\SftTray.exe" /launchResult {2D236FF1-76AB-4D46-BCE4-B1A1D9191EC0} /launch "SolidWorks eDrawings 2012 x64 Edition 12.4.0_v01" "C:\Users\theo\Desktop\Test.dwg"
Does anyone have an idea about how to fix this? Any help will be appreciated!

I have two users who are using excel 2013 extensively to do their jobs. Both of them have Excel 2013, one has x64 and one has x86 and they need to share their work and report they created. Would there be any issue between two different platform of excel
2013? thanks.

Hi,
In most cases, there won't be issues between 32-bit and 64-bit. However, we recommend the 32-bit version of Office, because it helps prevent compatibility issues with most other applications, especially third-party add-ins.
Here are something you should notice:
Excel expert users who work with complex Excel worksheets can benefit from using 64-bit Office 2013. This is because 64-bit Office doesn’t impose hard limits on file size. Instead, workbook size is limited only by available memory and system resources. On
the other hand, 32-bit Office is limited to 2 gigabytes (GB) of virtual address space, shared by Excel, the workbook, and add-ins that run in the same process. (Worksheets smaller than 2 GB on disk might still contain enough data to occupy 2 GB or more of
addressable memory.) You can learn more in
Excel specifications and limits and
Data Model specifications and limits.
What is in the 32-bit version of Office but is not included in the 64-bit version of Office?ActiveX controls library, ComCtl This library contains ActiveX controls that are used to build solutions. It is most commonly used
in the following Microsoft Office programs: Access, Excel, and Word.

I am trying to out info using the netsh command as follows
$showready = netsh mbn show ready *
this works fine if I run it in the x64 powershell. However if I run it in powershell (x86) i get the output "The following command was not found: mbn show ready *." why is it cutting off the netsh? I am trying to execute the script
through sccm so I figured it would run the x64 powershell since both sccm and the target os are 64bit. When I look at the logs I see this.
Running "C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe" -NoLogo -NonInteractive -ExecutionPolicy Bypass "C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\26\Untitled1.ps1" with 32bitLauncher
why does it run 32bit? and can I force it to run 64bit? better yet why do I get different output between the two? is there a way to get the correct output with the 32bit powershell?
thanks
Shaun
I have a powershell script that runs the netsh mbn show ready * command and the strips out the subscriber ID and simID and drops them into an xml file and the updates the mbn profile. The script works fine when I run it on the machine. It only fails when I
push it thorugh sccm because it runs with 32bit powershell. The command work with windows 7 just fine.
The question is how can I force powershell to run the 64bit version? Is there command that can be put into the script?
Shaun
You will need to ask that question in the ConfigMgr forums.
