Q: Installed Office 64 Bit By Accident, Need 32 Bit Instead.

I installed 64 bit Office 2010 on my 64 bit Windows 7 computer. I didn't realize, though, that I need 32 bit Office 2010 because of compatibility issues with another 32 bit program on my computer. Is there anything I can do to fix this without having
    to buy another license?

A: Installed Office 64 bit by accident, need 32 bit instead.

The license you bought does not distinguish between 32-bit and 64-bit versions, so you are free to uninstall the 64-bit version, restart twice, then install the 32-bit version, without any need to buy anything else.

    A: 64-bit IE8

    Hi Cassidy3110,

Thank you for posting your question on Windows Vista Forums.

Since a lot of plug-ins on the web doesn’t work with Internet Explorer 8 64bit, thus IE8 64bit version has not been set as default browser on the machine. It is left as an optional choice to use it or not to rather than a default choice.

So, if you want to use IE8 64bit version, you may have to browse to the iexplore.exe for 64bit and open it from the same location.

You should be able to locate the file in “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer".

Hope the above information helps. Please revert back and let us know.

If you computer supports 64-Bit instruction set, yes. However you will need to perform a "Custom"/Clean install as you can not directly upgrade from a 32-Bit OS to a 64-Bit OS.

    Q: Running A 32-Bit App On Windows 7 64-Bit

I recently purchased a PC with Windows 7 home 64-bit installed. I need to run a 32-bit application that will not load on the 64-bit OS. There is no upgrade available (yet) for the application, but I have to run it. Can I set up a multiboot option on my
PC so that I can boot with either the 64-bit OS or the 32-bit version?

    A: Running a 32-bit app on windows 7 64-bit

You can, but not with the Windows 7 license if you purchased a retail package. Because that license is already in use. If its an Windows 7 upgrade package, you can dual boot with the previous license if it was 32 bit version Windows. My recommendation would
be to do an Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 Professional and download the free Windows XP Mode software:

He specifically said that it was preinstalled. It's OEM.

Still, the answer is a flat-out no. You have two options:
A.) Upgrade to Professional and try to run it in XP Mode, or
B.) Buy a new full version of Windows 7.

You can also check to see if it's compatible with Linux. If so, set up a dual boot or virtual machine and run it in that.

    You will need to go a computer running a 32 bit version of Windows 7 or Vista and create a bootable copy then do a custom install over your Windows 8 64 bit installation;

    create your own:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only

    Click Install Now
    Accept License Agreement
When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom Advanced)
select the disk partition where you would like to install Windows8 Click Next.
You will receive the following warning:
The partition you selected might contain files from a previous Windows Installation. If it does, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your
    previous version of Windows.
(At all cost, do NOT click anything named Format or Delete or Partition. So even doing a custom install, your personal files are still preserved. Click OK
Setup will now start the installation. During the installation, your machine will be restarted several times.
When the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience such as selecting your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and
    drivers.
You can then recover your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all your applications and drivers.

A: new 64 bit windows virtual machine on windows 32 bits platform

    Welcome to the Community,

it does not depend on the host OS whether you can create 64-bit guests or not. It depends on the CPU and the BIOS. In case of an Intel 64-bit CPU, enter your system's BIOS and enable Intel VT (virtualization technology). After doing this save the BIOS settings and power cycle the system, a reboot is not sufficient.

You can check whether the kernel is 32 bit or 64 bit as follows:

    Procedure:

    1. Choose in the menu: System-- Status

    2. See the "Platform-ID":

    Platform--32 bit--64 bit

When performing the upgrade process the upgrade assistant determines your existing architecture, downloads the same architecture and installs.
To change from 32bit Windows to 64bit Windows a clean install will be performed (will have to reinstall applications etc…)

You can go to a computer running a 64 bit version (Vista or Windows 7) and do the download there and create a bootable copy.

    32 vs 64 bit
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions

Windows 8 64 bit comes in handy when you need to address at least 4 GBs or more of RAM. Windows 8 32 bit can utilize up to 3.2 GBs of RAM. Because the memory address space is much larger for 64 bit Windows, that means, you need twice as much memory than
32 bit Windows to accomplish some of the same task, but you are able to do so much more, you can have more applications open, do things like run an Antivirus scan in the background without it affecting your system performance. Windows 8 64 bit is more secure
too, malicious code cannot easily infiltrate it, drivers are more reliable since they must be signed before they can work with 64 bit Windows 8.
As for compatibility, you will need 64 bit device drivers for any hardware devices you might have. Also, there is no 16 bit subsystem in Windows 8 64 bit, which means, your applications must be 32 bit only, not 16 bit installer or uninstallers.
If you need to upgrade to the 64 bit version, you will need to do a custom over your 32 bit installed. You said you ordered the backup DVD with your order, so you will have the 64 bit disc.
You will have to do a clean installation, there is no in place upgrade path from Windows 7 32 Bit to 64 bit. Lauch the Windows Easy Transfer utility in Windows 7 and create a WET file (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard disk, you can
have it stored there so you can access it later when you do a clean install of Windows 8 64 bit disk.
    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/07/using-windows-easy-transfer-in-windows-7/
Once you have done that, simply do a clean install of Windows 8 64 bit disk. In Windows 8 64 bit disk, launch Windows Easy Transfer, follow the on screen wizard, point to where you stored the the WET file (external hard disk), and it will restore your personal
files and settings. Reinstall any necessary applications.

Boot from the Windows 8 64 bit meda

Boot from the media you created to install on another partition

    Click Install Now
    Accept License Agreement
When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom Advanced)

    hi everyone!!!!!
how fast is 64 bit compare to 32 bit? is operating system from 32 bit can be install to 64 bit?
coz i have window 7 which i've installed in my pc(32 bit).... then my father plan to buy 64bit pc.... do we still need to buy 64 bit OS?

    A: 64

Check the MS website. I believe your Windows 7 license key works for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7. This is true when you buy the retail copy, as to OEM version - I do not know. You may be able to upgrade to 64-bit for free. (assuming you have a 64-bit capable processor).

You may or may not want to depending on your requirements. While 64-bit applications can use a lot more RAM (and have a larger working register set), the application code footprint and some dynamic footprint (e.g. stack size) is slightly larger. If your system has a small amount of RAM (1GB, 2GB) you may be better off sticking with the 32-bit version. If your system is capable of going to 4GB or more, then consider adding RAM and upgrading to the 64-bit OS.

A few number of applications requiring 1-2GB of RAM may run faster but typically, if the code cannot use the additional registers efficiently then it will run a tad slower on 64-bit (due to slightly larger execuitable code and larger stack requirements).

BTW I am happy using 64-bit with 4GB of RAM (at transition point between bit-ness).

Q: Issue With 32 Bit Or 64 Bit Installation

I have Outlook 2010 installed on my computer. I want to install the trial version of Home and Student 2010. I selected 64 bit since that is what my Outlook is but get the message that I cannot install it because I have other 32 bit program installed. When
I try to install 32 bit, it tells me I can't do it because I have 64 bit program installed. How can I clear this up?

A: Issue with 32 bit or 64 bit installation

You can only have 32 or 64 bit office installed at one time. Here are some lists that identify which currently installed programs may block your installation

Blocking and nonblocking Office applications in 64-bit installations
If 32-bit Office applications are installed on a computer, a 64-bit Office 2010 installation is blocked by default. The following section (Applications
that block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation) lists the applications that block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation. The next section (Applications that
do not block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation) lists exceptions; that is, applications that do not block the installation. In such cases, installation of 64-bit Office proceeds even if the listed 32-bit applications are installed on the computer.

Applications that block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation
The following applications block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation:
    · Microsoft Office Excel Viewer
    · Access database engine of Microsoft Access 2010
    · Microsoft Office 2010 (Click-to-run)
    · Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system

Applications that do not block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation
The following applications do not block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation:

A: How to upgrade my machine/OS from 32 bit to 64 bit?

Just keep in mind that you cannot have two servers in the same role with different installs.  For example multiple web front ends needs to be all 32bit or all 64bit.SharePoint Developer | Administrator | Evangelist -- Twitter -- Blog - http://nextconnect.blogspot.com

Q: 32-Bit And 64-Bit Runtime - Can Both Be Installed On 64-Bit Machine?

We have a VB.NET app compiled with a Target CPU of x86. We will deploy the 32-bit Crystal runtime to go along with this app.

We are using SP6 of Crystal Developer Edition for Microsoft Visual Studio components and its corresponding runtime .msi.

My question to you: Can both the 32-bit and 64-bit of the Crystal runtimes be installed on a 64-bit OS (seeing as our app will be using the 32-bit, but some other app may be using the 64-bit)? Does this cause an issue having both 32-bit and 64-bit runtimes (or is it even possible) installed on a 64-bit OS machine?

A: 32-bit and 64-bit runtime - can both be installed on 64-bit machine?

there will be no issue having both 32 and 64 bit CR app on a server. The only time where issues come up is when the app is compiled as "Any CPU" and then a 32 bit runtimes is deployed to a 64 bit OS. In this case, as the compile is "Any CPU", the 64 bit OS, by default will want 64 bit runtime. If only 32 bit runtime was deleted, you will get errors re. missing runtime...

Q: Should I Have The 32 Bit Or 64 Bit Version Of Office Installed On My New Laptop__

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version on a new i7 powered laptop. I have installed Office Professional but it is all 32 bit and there are some issues with Outlook. Is the 64 bit version on the same disc as I have (the box cover doesn't seem to
say anything) and should I re-install the 64 bit version and if so will my data be retained?

A: Should I have the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Office installed on my new laptop__

The "issues" probably won't go away simply by changing to 64 bit office. You will just find a whole new set of issues. And just to make it better, these issues will be unknown to 99 of 100 support techincians for a number of years yet. One of the key points
AGAINST 64 bit is that all addins have to be recoded explicitly for 64 bit. So if you depend on any addins, you have to verify with vendor before the upgrade to confirm they truely support 64 bit.
I just took a look at my 2010 Home and Student disk and it has both on it, clearly labeled.
Yes your personal data will be retained, but I strongly doubt that your personal configuration settings will be carried over to 64 bit (this is educated guess, not actual experience).
Even MS is still recommending that people use 32 bit, even on 64 bit OS unless they have explicit need to handle Excel or Access files that are larger than supported by 32 bit. I don't remember specifically reading anything about "improvements" in Outlook,
other than the ability to handle larger PST, but is that really a good thing?
Bottom line, nothing you've said meets the criteria I've learned that indicate true need for 64 bit.

    Q: Mdt 32-Bit Or 64-Bit? Technician Pc 32-Bit Or 64-Bit?

    Hello,
There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the internet about this. I would appreciate any advice.
My goal is to use MDT to deploy custom Windows 8.1 to many tablets using a USB stick (SCCM is not possible or feasible at this time). At the moment, I want to deploy Windows 8.1 32-bit (tablet I'm testing does not support 64-bit). In a couple of months,
I'll probably be also deploying Windows 8.1 64-bit onto a different tablet.
Currently, I have a technician PC (Windows 8.1 64-bit) with MDT (64-bit)and AIK installed.
Q1: Does the OS on the technician PC has to be 32-bit or 64-bit?
Q2: Does the installation of MDT has to be 32-bit or 64-bit (obviously only on a 64-bit OS)?
    According to
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825212.aspx,
We recommend that you use the 32-bit version of Windows on the technician computer because the 32-bit version supports both 32-bit and 64-bit deployments.
So the OS on my tecnician's PC has to be 32-bit? Obviously, installation of MDT would then also be 32-bit.
    Many thanks.

If your computer is 64-bit capable - yes. Most are (after 2005ish.)

However, "upgrade" would not be what you are doing... Merely formatting (erasing everything) and installing the 64-bit edition of the same operating system you are already running.

A: IE 9 64 bit and 32 bit on same computer

This is the way it should be and the 32-bit version should be used for normal use. The 64-bit version of IE9 did not receive all the improvements the 32-bit version did and currently, popular plugins such as Flash don't have a 64-bit version.

Using the 32-bit version is actually more beneficial for the time being.

Q: 32 Bit Class Files Vs. 64 Bit Class Files

Please forgive my apparent ignorance, but is there any difference between .class file created with a 32-bit Java compiler and .class files created with a 64-bit java compiler? Can I compile with 32-bit Java and run on both 32-bit and 64-bit?

    Thanks in advance!

A: 32 bit class files vs. 64 bit class files

Applications can be run only in interpreted mode. The
platform will run in interpreted mode by default,
with no need to supply the -Xint flag on the command
line when launching an application. When using the
64-bit versions of the J2SE 1.4.1 platform, the
command java MyApp will launch and execute MyApp by
    interpreting the bytecode. Java
    HotSpot-technology-based dynamic compilers for 64-bit
support is planned for a future release of the J2SE
platform. Sound of tires screeching to a halt

So all the performance benefits I gain by having a true 64-bit jvm are effectively nullified by the fact that I no longer have a JIT?!?

Here's a stupid question for you.

I would just worry about 32 bit versions of the ApplicationXtender Desktop. For the web server/render I would do 64bit. You can tell by which "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" folder that the EXE is located in. My money is on 32bit (or Program Files (x86)).

A: 64 bit Upgrade vs. New install

Can I use update version to convert from 32 to 64 bit?
Yes, with a custom clean install.

    Custom Clean Install Steps

    Times to use:
Moving from XP to Windows 7, or other unsupported in place upgrade paths (ex: Vista Home to 7 Pro)

Moving from a 32 bit Windows system to a 64 bit system, or changing languages

Don't want to do an in place upgrade, or you want a fresh/clean install

You can use an Upgrade or Full Windows 7 disk to do a custom clean install. This will remove all your programs, but you can save your files and settings to an external storage before doing so. Also, you'll have to reinstall all your programs. Here are the steps:

    1. Run Windows Upgrade Advisor (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor ) to see if there are any known issues that might affect
the installation and whether you can install the 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 7.

    2. Back up your files and settings. To avoid losing anything you'll need to save copies of all the files, photos, and other information you want to keep on to an external storage device. Windows Easy Transfer (http://windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer
) is a free tool you can use to copy your files (but not programs) from your PC, and then transfer them back after you install Windows 7. If you don't have an external hard drive you won't be able to use Windows Easy Transfer, instead you can copy files you
want to keep on a USB flash drive, or on CD/DVD.

    3. Locate the original installation disks and any associated product/license keys for the programs currently on your computer because you'll need to manually reinstall all your programs after you install Windows 7. Depending on what you have installed you might
be able to download some programs from the Internet.

    4. Inset the Windows 7 DVD into your PC. When asked "Which type of installation do you want? click "Custom (advanced)." Note: 32 to 64 bit requires you to restart and boot from the DVD.

    5. After Windows 7 is installed you can use Windows Easy Transfer (or another backup method you used) to restore your files settings, and use your installation disks to install all your programs. Then you're done - enjoy Windows 7.

    Q: Cannot Install Project Professional 2010 64-Bit -

Hi, I have Office 2010 Professional 64-bit installed, and therefore by definition have no remnants of 32-bit Office on my PC.  However when I try to install Project Professional 2010 64-bit, I receive an error message that You cannot install the 64-bit version of Office 2010 because you have the 32-bit Office product installed.  These 32-bit products are not supported with 64-bit installations: and the area where the problem apps would appear is blank. My OS is Windows 7 RTM.Any suggestions?

Q: 32-Bit Vs. 64-Bit I Tried To Install The 64-Bit Version But I Got A Message Saying That My Computer Wasnt Compatible

I was running 32-bit Windows Vista on my computer. I've recently purchased a Windows 7 upgrade. It came with an upgrade for 32-bit and 64-bit CD. I tried to install the 64-bit version but it didn't work. I got a message saying that my computer wasn't compatible.
I then installed the 32-bit version and it worked just fine. So, is that right? I cannot, by any circumtances intall the 64-bit version? is there a way around? is it because I only have 3GB of memory on my computer? Please Advise. Thanks in advance.

A: 32-bit vs. 64-bit I tried to install the 64-bit version but I got a message saying that my computer wasnt compatible

How do I reboot from the 64-bit install disk?

Put the install disk in the DVD drive, then restart the computer. If it doesn't start from the DVD:

BIOS - How to Enter the BIOS and Change Boot Order To Boot From CD/DVD
The computer may need to be set to boot from the DVD drive.
Every computer is different, when you first turn on the computer it should tell you what button to push to enter the BIOS. It's usually one of the following and you must push it within the first 5 seconds:

    F1 F2 F10 F12 ESC DEL
Once in the BIOS you have to find the menu with the boot order and change it so it boots from the CD/DVD drive first. Every computer is a little different for this process as well so I can't give exact directions.

If your BIOS settings are correct and if you have a DVD drive, when the computer restarts if there is a message to "press any key to boot from disk" you must press a key on the keyboard to boot from the DVD.

    Q: Ms Office 64 Bit

    Hi,

I installed an MS office 64 bit, which is apparently not compatible to BB desktop manager. Everywhere in your sites one can see Workaround: delete the 64 Bit Office and install the 32 Bit version. I did it. There is no 64 Bit office only the 32 Bit is existing now on my machine. I get still the same message. "You are running a 64 Bit office ...". The work around doesn't work. Is there any registry key which is telling BB the bit version?

    SHD

    A: MS office 64 bit

Yes you are right. It says me that I am running the 64 Bit version although I reinstall it with the 32 Bit version. I try once again an reinstall.

Q: 32 Bit Host Can Install 64 Bit Guest??

my PC is installed 32 bit winxp, and when i use the vmWare to install the 64 bit winxp for testing, it said my CPU can not support. But my CPU is a 64 bit intel 805 CPU, it is a 64 bit CPU, am i need to do some configuration?

A: 32 bit host can install 64 bit guest??

    newb alert

Assuming the hardware is 64-bit compatible, can a 64

bit guest be installed to a 32 bit host, or do you

have to upgrade your host OS to 64 bit?

If hardware meets VMware requirements for a 64-bit guest (that is a stronger requirement than just 64-bit compatibility), then host can run either 32-bit or 64-bit OS (no need to upgrade host OS to 64-bit).

But you might want 64-bit host OS for other reasons.

Q: Change From 32 Bit To 64 Bit On Windows 7

A: change from 32 bit to 64 bit on windows 7

I initially installed my Windows 7 with 32 bit but have since added more memory and want to change to 64 bit. How so I go about this?
You must completely reinstall Windows when going from 32 to 64 bit.

Upgrading or simply switching from Windows 7 32 to 64 bit is not possible.
Make sure to back up your data first.

    Q: 32 Bit Vs 64 Bit On X86 Computer

    Hi,
doing a few things on my girl's comp and there are a few things I'm unsure about.
    DELL Inspiron comp.
    x86 computer/processor.
Windows 7 with 64 bit system.

I notice she has more than one program installed that read 32 bit. (She has a 64 bit system)2 of the programs are;(32 Bit) Flash Player, also (32 Bit) Quicktime. Do these programs need to be reinstalled for a 64 bit system? Actually not having any trouble
(that I've noticed), but want to make sure getting the best performance possible!

One question for my own knowledge.... If someone doesn't have x86 then what is the lower comp/processor(s)?
I know all about 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems.

Thank You very much for yourhelp in this matter

Q: 64 Bit Is Not Working For Us. We Live In A 32 Bit World. Help

We bought windows 7 64 bit. Best buy and Fry's do not have 32 bit windows of any kind. We use our computer for home, work etc. Our hospital citrix is 32 bit. We cannot get it on this computer. Many of our old programs, our printer etc aren't working. My
question is, Can I purchase a 32 bit version of some windows to have installed on this new HP computer?

A: 64 bit is not working for us. We live in a 32 bit world. HELP

We bought windows 7 64 bit. Best buy and Fry's do not have 32 bit windows of any kind.

The retail version of Windows 7 comes in both 32 and 64 bit - if they are selling Windows 7 they are selling 32 bit. Do you mean you bought a computer with Windows 7 64 bit?

Can I purchase a 32 bit version of some windows to have installed on this new HP computer?
Yes (if there are 32 bit drivers for it - check with HP), but first contact the OEM computer manufacturer (HP) and ask them to send you a 32 bit install disk for your computer - they may or may not do it. If they agree to send you one they may charge a small
    fee.

    Also try:

    Troubleshoot Compatibility

This can help with some (but not all) programs:
    1) Uninstall the program if it's already installed. Then when you install/reinstall it instead of double clicking on the install file right click it and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
    2) Then click "Try Recommended Settings" and in the next windows click "Start the Program" to install it.
    3) After it installs see if it works correctly. Please note - some programs may not be able to run in windows 7.

More details about how to make older programs run in this version of Windows:

    Q: 32-Bit To 64-Bit Upgrade

I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium Package to upgrade from Windows XP. I tried the 64-bit disk first and got a message that it was not compatible with my computer. So, I installed the 32-bit version. Is there any way to now upgrade my Windows 7 32-bit

    Thanks Shenan,
Yes, after running Windows Upgrage Advisory I found that my computer does support 64-bit OS. I will do a clean install from my 64-bit disk.
