I love comic book characters but I would never be so childish as to have it on a wedding cake.

Some people don't take things like weddings so seriously. I think it's a fun idea. Most weddings are too stuffy - it's a party after all!

Maybe they both like comic books? Or maybe they have a sense of humor? I don't see an issue with it, then again I'm kind of weird myself and I also make wedding cakes.

I wonder if they'll be spending their wedding night on Spider-Man sheets in a bed shaped like the Bat-mobile?

Don't forget matching Superman pajamas! And they're going to play John Williams score during consummation.

Conflating one's preferences with maturity is a common failing of adolescence.

But those characters are not just part of the wedding, but the marriage. So it needs to be memorialized that his wife is not marrying a man, but a man plus his hobbies.

There's a difference between enjoying comics and living them. I have serious reservations about anyone that is so obsessed with comics that they must be memorialized.

I had a batman wedding cake, and wife got me a batman wedding ring.

Marriage is doing fine despite these serious obstacles :)

I intended for what I said to be both sincere and sarcastic, depending on the couple. If the woman loves comics as much as him and it anchors their lives, great.

But I've seen couples where one person has an insane addiction to some hobby and the other goes along with it just to keep the peace, whether its games or hunting or motorcycling or shopping or anything else that subsumes the marriage. There was a guy on History and TLC, he has the world's largest ketchup collection. Thousands of pieces of memorabilia everywhere, just an obsessive love of it. Ate it with every bite of food. And his wife had this glazed look like, "yeah, if I don't do the ketchup thing... uh, whatever, I'll just do the ketchup thing."

Think of it like this -- Would you have a comic book character on your birthday cake? If not, then do you accept that it's normal for other people to? If you answered yes to anything - then why should a wedding cake be any different? If you didn't - then maybe you take parties more seriously than many/most people, which is fine, you do you.

Maybe I take marriage more seriously? Birthdays =/= Marriage

And wedding =/= a super serious affair for some. Just like some cultures have sad mourning funerals whereas other cultures have celebrations of life.

Different strokes for different folks, no one is telling you the wedding type you want is wrong, so I would avoid telling others theirs is.

Some cultures have sad, mournful funerals, some have boisterous Irish wakes, and others have funerals where they bury the deceased in a coffin emblazoned with The Hulk and Spiderman logos. It takes all kinds!

There are also couples that have fun with their marriage and there's nothing really wrong with that. Some people enjoy fun party weddings others prefer more traditional wedding, to each their own

I don't really think that being "serious" has anything to do with it.

I think fanaticism at that level is just weird.

If it's my birthday (or wedding), it's about me, not about Spider-Man (for example).

When I was younger, Spider-Man was a large enough part of my life that having Spider-Man on my cake made sense, as it represented enough of my identity to warrant that. But now that I'm older and have far more facets to my personality, I don't hold one single thing in enough reverence to represent myself like that.

I personally think it's off putting to associate that much of my identity with one thing, regardless of what it is.

I'd say the same if someone had a cake with Tom Brady's face on it.

I have serious reservations

Well, that's just the thing. You're not the one getting married here, are you? So it doesn't really matter, in the long run, what your opinion on the matter is if the bridge and groom are both okay with it.

Who's to say the wife isn't the comic book fan?

Exactly. My SO is way more of a comic and superhero fan than I am. I only watched some of the cartoons as a kid.

If it's something that they shared together then so be it. The idea could be that they both met at a comic book store, maybe the bride is a writer for Marvel Comics and used to work at DC Comics, maybe he/she owns a comic book store, etc. Just keep in mind, people are all different and having something to celebrate that people will talk about and also express how they feel about each other and show others what they brought them together, then that is what they will do. We understand your view about this and wouldn't have this on a cake.

My exact thought. Is she marrying a small child?

Good for you, sticking to a plain white wedding cake like a proper adult. God forbid a wedding cake show any personality.

Finally, someone with some common sen....hey, wait a minute!

yeah, well, that's just like your opinion, man

I think you taking weddings that seriously is childish.
