The compromise is having both Marvel and DC, right? :)

ps. that's a great idea for the wedding cake!

One of these things is not like the other.

They don't know where batman is?

I thought spiderman was giving me the finger at first.

Interesting, my liquid income gave me the finger after I got married. I think I upset it because I haven't seen it since.

Plot twist: that was done on purpose.

It hurts me that 3 of the layers are Marvel yet one is DC.

That's the compromise.

Me too. What are those other three layers doing there? (Please don't kill me, I love all those characters).

I know couples that would do this, plus wedding party cosplay and Klingon finger food. I saw a beautiful outdoor wedding in sundresses and off-white casual jackets, not a necktie in sight. It may not be traditional or "adult", but it's fun for the couple and probably most of their friends in attendance. The line for grousing about the newlyweds starts on the white side of the cake. The rest of us, at the bat-signal.

You couldn't decide between Marvel and DC? Looks amazing btw.

The lady that made this is making our wedding cake too. We've got a Monopoly theme.

It was actually quite affordable.

compromise marriage... ; )

I'll say. That much fondant is a major compromise.

Fondant, not even once.

[–]THEYLL_NEED_A_CRANE 30ポイント31ポイント  (0子コメント)

CHOO CHOO, ALL ABOARD THE FONDANT HATE TRAIN!

Well you need to make a compromise between taste and looks.

Buttercream can look very nice if people have the skills to do so. It's difficult to get it so smooth but it's possible (examples here).

On the other hand... yes, fondant tastes awful, but man can I upcharge the crap out of my cakes when people ask for it.

[–]Cynykl 4

I have seen stunning wedding cakes that did not use fondant. If you want something for pure looks I suggest your wedding feature an ice sculpture.

Buttercream tastes so much better, and can look just as good, you just can't do crazy stuff with it like you can do with Fondant.

Marshmallow fondant..just as pretty and tastes a million times better

You still have to carve it off to get to the good cake though, I mean scratch marshmallow anything taste really good, but you can only have a few bites of it before the pure sugar makes you sick.

Marriage is all about compromise. I have high hopes for this couple.

you know what marriage isn't about though? Thousand dollar cakes

[–]Rolling_on_the_river 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

It could be a nice touch :) Like it looks like in this picture.

I know but the cost benefit seems silly to waste on a touch unless you have ungodly amounts of money to throw away. You could finance a vacation for that cake, and that pliable icing doesn't even taste good.

You posted this comment twice. One got upvoted and the other downvoted... Strange.

I upvoted the downvoted one and downvoted the upvoted one. It's all about compromise.

I have very strong opinions about cake, and I insist on pushing those opinions out to the masses

you know what marriage isn't about though? Thousand dollar cakes

That depends on the budget of the newlyweds.

Maybe they have a baker friend.....we had a photographer friend so photos were our wedding gift. Just saying, you really don't know the situation.

That is awesome.

I love comic book characters but I would never be so childish as to have it on a wedding cake.

Some people don't take things like weddings so seriously. I think it's a fun idea. Most weddings are too stuffy - it's a party after all!

Maybe they both like comic books? Or maybe they have a sense of humor? I don't see an issue with it, then again I'm kind of weird myself and I also make wedding cakes.

have any pics of your work? promote yourself!

I wonder if they'll be spending their wedding night on Spider-Man sheets in a bed shaped like the Bat-mobile?

Don't forget matching Superman pajamas! And they're going to play John Williams score during consummation.

Conflating one's preferences with maturity is a common failing of adolescence.

But those characters are not just part of the wedding, but the marriage. So it needs to be memorialized that his wife is not marrying a man, but a man plus his hobbies.

There's a difference between enjoying comics and living them. I have serious reservations about anyone that is so obsessed with comics that they must be memorialized.

I had a batman wedding cake, and wife got me a batman wedding ring.

Marriage is doing fine despite these serious obstacles :)

I intended for what I said to be both sincere and sarcastic, depending on the couple. If the woman loves comics as much as him and it anchors their lives, great.

But I've seen couples where one person has an insane addiction to some hobby and the other goes along with it just to keep the peace, whether its games or hunting or motorcycling or shopping or anything else that subsumes the marriage. There was a guy on History and TLC, he has the world's largest ketchup collection. Thousands of pieces of memorabilia everywhere, just an obsessive love of it. Ate it with every bite of food. And his wife had this glazed look like, "yeah, if I don't do the ketchup thing... uh, whatever, I'll just do the ketchup thing."

Think of it like this -- Would you have a comic book character on your birthday cake? If not, then do you accept that it's normal for other people to? If you answered yes to anything - then why should a wedding cake be any different? If you didn't - then maybe you take parties more seriously than many/most people, which is fine, you do you.

Maybe I take marriage more seriously? Birthdays =/= Marriage

And wedding =/= a super serious affair for some. Just like some cultures have sad mourning funerals whereas other cultures have celebrations of life.

Different strokes for different folks, no one is telling you the wedding type you want is wrong, so I would avoid telling others theirs is.

Some cultures have sad, mournful funerals, some have boisterous Irish wakes, and others have funerals where they bury the deceased in a coffin emblazoned with The Hulk and Spiderman logos. It takes all kinds!

There are also couples that have fun with their marriage and there's nothing really wrong with that. Some people enjoy fun party weddings others prefer more traditional wedding, to each their own

I don't really think that being "serious" has anything to do with it.

I think fanaticism at that level is just weird.

If it's my birthday (or wedding), it's about me, not about Spider-Man (for example).

When I was younger, Spider-Man was a large enough part of my life that having Spider-Man on my cake made sense, as it represented enough of my identity to warrant that. But now that I'm older and have far more facets to my personality, I don't hold one single thing in enough reverence to represent myself like that.

I personally think it's off putting to associate that much of my identity with one thing, regardless of what it is.

I'd say the same if someone had a cake with Tom Brady's face on it.

I have serious reservations

Well, that's just the thing. You're not the one getting married here, are you? So it doesn't really matter, in the long run, what your opinion on the matter is if the bridge and groom are both okay with it.

Who's to say the wife isn't the comic book fan?

Exactly. My SO is way more of a comic and superhero fan than I am. I only watched some of the cartoons as a kid.

If it's something that they shared together then so be it. The idea could be that they both met at a comic book store, maybe the bride is a writer for Marvel Comics and used to work at DC Comics, maybe he/she owns a comic book store, etc. Just keep in mind, people are all different and having something to celebrate that people will talk about and also express how they feel about each other and show others what they brought them together, then that is what they will do. We understand your view about this and wouldn't have this on a cake.

My exact thought. Is she marrying a small child?

Good for you, sticking to a plain white wedding cake like a proper adult. God forbid a wedding cake show any personality.

Finally, someone with some common sen....hey, wait a minute!

yeah, well, that's just like your opinion, man

I think you taking weddings that seriously is childish.

[–]Turnabout_Tables 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

So you both agreed on fondant?

Why do you have to compromise? Get a groom's cake and everyone gets what they want. Not that this isn't awesome, just wondering out of curiosity.

Because, like it or not, most people would be repulsed by the thought of their daughter marrying a man who had to have a special Batman cake made for him.

Several of which appear to be in this thread.

Iron man wants someone to put him out of his misery.

One side for the bride, another for her 8 year old son/nephew?

More infantilised millennials I guess.

I'm prepared for the downvotes

Why do people get superhero things on their cake? Superheroes are meant for people 10-20 years old and it's just immature to get it on a cake at a very adult event. I get that you like comics, but seriously, it's pretty Damn childish. Not to mention your stepparents thinking the same way.

I went to a wedding where the bride went down the aisle to the Throne Room Song from A New Hope. Then the bride and groom played rock paper scissors to see who had to do their vows first. The reception was at a brewery. It was the best wedding I've ever been to.

To each their own, but goddamn that's got to be one of the cringiest thing I've ever heard of.

cringiest

The fact that you call it that tells me that you're not ready.

It's not an inherently adult event though, it's whatever you want it to be. If you're dropping thousands on a single day, you might as well be happy with how that money is spent.

It's an excellent question, but the answer is purely cultural. Honestly, is the whole white lace and pearls thing any more "adult"? A wedding is no less important if it's Star Wars themed than if it follows the traditional wedding rituals. Tradition =/= maturity.

The important thing is that the wedding serves as a celebration of the love between two people, and if those two people share a passion for something--especially if the object of passion is the very thing that brought them together--why not include it?

I will counter your question with another question: why the fuck does it bother you what people put on a goddamn pastry?

Not to mention your stepparents thinking the same way.

I'm not sure I trust your authority to judge, considering you think that a wedding is where each of your parents gets married to each of the parents of the other person.

Have you read any comics written in the last 30 years?

Did you know that 18-20 year olds can get married?

Geez, you must be lots of fun at parties.

yeah, well, that's just like your opinion, man

More classic examples of the infantilisation of our generation.

Why do so many people in this subreddit have a stick up their ass? It's a fucking cake.

Yeah, we need more people to look down on others for their infinitesimally small life decisions that affect no one else.

Speaking of class...

Don't make me break out that CS Lewis quote.

What the fuck does that even mean? lol

Go ahead, explain why you think this is a problem. This should be mentally enlightening! I can't wait for your sure to be intelligent response.

Let me reword that for you, since you're clearly too immature to just say what you really wanted to say.

"I don't like what you like and so it must be wrong."

But that doesn't sound as good as what you said, does it? Gotta make sure you sound almost intelligent, otherwise it's just too obvious that you're a mindless bag of bones.

Grow up and make your own decisions in life.

Or trying to inject fun into a stressful, solemn occasion?

I have to agree. I can't say if it's a bad thing or a good thing, or a mix of both though

AKA the manchild cake?

Light hearted groom's cakes featuring his interests aren't exactly a new idea. Doing a half and half cake is pretty cool. Not surprised at all the people on Reddit making judgemental comments about total strangers.

I predict a good marriage for these two.

I looks like the skyscraper is giving the bat-finger!

That was the first thing I noticed!!!

Is it just me or does it kinda look like the Gotham skyline is giving everyone the finger?

Did anyone else for a second think that the spiderman was giving us the middle finger? Thought those buildings were a FU for a split second.

Does the bride match the cake?

To compromise that you're marrying a dork.

Is the groom seven? This is so cringe.

Now we're talking!

So the compromise was a $1200 cake instead of a $500 cake? It's great work, and good for the cakemaker, but money problems remain a top issue leading to divorce...

You know, they might have the money to do this. Not everyone is in the same financial situation.

no one wants to talk about how impractical a cake like this is.

Given the title of the post, I presumed that was precisely the topic. But I guess not because comic books.

... why would anyone want to talk about the impracticality of a cake? This comment section is blowing my mind right now.

How is it impractical other than being expensive? And I know people that spent a ton of money on a very "standard" cake anyway so........

This is absolutely brilliant. So creative.

the gotham skyline looks liike spidey is flipping you off

Do the buildings on the right side of the Batman portion look like a hand giving the middle finger to anyone else?

She gets 85% and he gets 15%...sounds about right

IDK I'm going to guess that they're both comic nerds and wanted to compromise between "traditional" wedding cake to look good in pics and make the family happy, and sneaking in something fun.

source: I'm a lady nerd who would love this, and so would most of my friends.

It does look fun. I would like to see the guests' reactions when they see it!

Even more expertly hidden is the passed out hooker inside!

And a new trend is born.....people are going to love this.

This marriage is going to be rock solid.

For those who think this is an awesome idea, I'm curious how you'd feel if this were a half-regular, half-Barbie cake that the wife wanted?

If my hypothetical wife asked for that, I'd be put off by it, honestly. It'd make me feel like I were marrying a little girl.

ah nerds do get laid

but joke on me im not a nerd

Does everyone nowadays have the mentality of a 12 year old or why do so many people like generic ass overplayed superheroes?
