Hello!
We here at /r/TumblrInAction have never been about banning/removing comments that were distasteful or we disagreed with as long as they fit within our rules. Policing comments we leave largely up to you guys via up/downvotes. This is not going to change. However; recently and rather predictably, we have been seeing an influx in real racist comments. Refugees from Coontown most likely. I mean these people did not simply disappear when the admins banned the sub. They are all over Reddit still. It would also appear that some of them think TiA is Coontown 2.0.
We of course are having none of that.
So, to combat this influx of troubling comments, I have added Rule 3D to the rules.
Rule 3D) Over the line! Mark it zero, Dude!
Your comment was deemed to be over the line of what we find acceptable. We are here to mock, discuss, and joke about many issues, not be active hate mongers. Multiple violations of this rule will result in a ban. If the comment if particularly nasty, a ban will be issued with no prior warning.
The rule will be applied the same as other parts of Rule 3. In most cases 3 strikes will be issued before a user is banned. But in some cases, if the comment is WAY over the line, the user will be banned on sight.
Q) Who will determine what is over the line?
A) The mod team. We will be looking at the context, the tone, perceived intent and history. The 3 strikes thing is partly a safety net. Some people might cross the line, but not actually be a schmuck. Could be a poorly worded comment that makes it look worse than it is.
Q) What would be crossing the line?
A) Words are fine. Discussing things and using certain words is OK. Making relevant cheeky jokes about whatever a post is about is OK, for most of you it will be business as usual. What isn't fine are comments that are overtly racist/sexist/whatever else-ist. To paraphrase a comment that sparked this rule idea... There was a post featuring a black man, and the comment was something like "fucking niggers ruining this country". It is comments like this we are looking to remove/issue a 3D warning.
Q) Is there anything else that will warrant a rule 3D warning?
A) Yes. On top of comments, we are looking for coontown memes. We pulled a few last night. Dindu Nuffin and shit like that. You are free to do whatever you like elsewhere on Reddit, we do not care at all, but we will not let people try to turn TiA into a coontown clone. This is also true for FPH stuff as well. We are all about fat logic stuff, we like that shit, but there are some that think that makes it OK to take it to the extreme. It is not OK.
Q) Why is the wording so vague?
A) Ahh. Good question. I am glad you asked. In our experience, the people that cross the line in areas like this are also really obnoxious with rules. They will and do argue letter for letter. Being a little more vague in the details we can avoid that as the intention of the rule is very clear. If we feel that you have crossed the line, then you have crossed the line. End of story.
Q) But what about my free speech?
A) I am Canadian. Your Amendments mean nothing to me MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Q) Hey AAP, why are you so goddamn sexy? And can I send you photos of my lady bits?
A) I can't really answer the first part. I am sure fighting bears with my bare hands contributes to the sexiness. I can't say for sure though. As for the second part. I will always accept lady bits.
Q) Is anyone actually asking you these questions? Or are you making all this up?
A) How dare you! This interview is over!
Well there it is... new sub-rule for rule 3. This goes into effect immediately. Try not to cross the line, please.
Yours truly
AAP
