I know we love horses a lot on this sub, so I want to share this video of other people who, er, love horses even more.

You're welcome. The real question isn't just asking if humans are horses, but if humans are JRHNBR.

You don't know that. I have suspicions about some of the people here.

Seven damn hours til I fly out. 18 hour trip. Can this just be over with?

Also, the whole China thing + TPP has blended for a nice panicjerk in a few places, always interesting to see flavor blends.

Where to? Unless you're flying Air Canada I have little sympathy.

Prague, and it's on United. Doubt it will be a particularly nasty ride, I just don't want to sit around for that long.

While I'm there, I'm sure I'll be on some cheap shit Ryanair or whatever at some point though.

I want to get some more exposure of the good R1s here in BE. At the very least I want to try to get a smack down (IDB's or others') on the anti-trade stuff and post it to bestof.

Hopefully that will reach a wide enough audience and at least make them question their priors.

Please tell me someone else watched the Hannibal finale. I mean just look at that. That's beautiful.

Oh, and the sections written by Whinston and Green are not?

The book needs an update... That typesetting bugs me.

I did a proof for a project in a math class. I didn't like the notation. Drove me bonkers. Though maybe you're being sarcastic.

A year ago I thought it was fun too. I'm at the point where I never want to see it again.

Anyone here have thoughts on the "80 billion" dollar bill that would make tuition free across the country? I keep seeing this pop up on my Facebook feed as it is populated almost entirely with undergrads. I have an inkling the $80 billion number is way off (or at least, would be way off when accounting the increased enrollment from free college if its not offset with tougher admissions). I mean, the democrat in me feels bad for being saddled with debt after graduation, the republican in me feels that a) we shouldn't be paying so much for something with unclear benefits and b) people need to be more responsible with their choices. I turned down fancy expensive schools to go the one that gives me negative tuition so I don't really feel bad for the person from with a quadrillion dollars in debt from a fancy school when they could've gone to something more local for free.

There's also policies between "make it free" and do nothing of course, such as the Rubio discussion we had here before, and the possibility of investors being able to buy x% of a graduates future income for x years.

That figure is provided universities dont up their fees again to profit from the measure...

Does free trade cause unemployment?

[–]UltSomnia 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

What state do you live in? Do you think you're state would have lower unemployment if it didn't trade with other states?

I apologize if you're not from 'Murica. Anyway, this : https://alvaroaltamirano.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/krugman_a-country-is-not-a-company.pdf

[–]strayadvice 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

One doesn't simply intuit economics.

Edit to your edit: Krugman's "a country is not a company" explains why free trade doesn't necessarily create more jobs. It doesn't say anything about whether it reduces the number of jobs. If one were to go solely by comparative advantage, free trade would reduce the number of jobs. No?

[–]neshalchanderman 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

My sister's looking for a good layman's guide to international economics (trade, currency, cross-border externalities).

Any recommendation?

A while back ago we talked about having a RI contest. We would pick some piece of bad econ and see who could write the best RI. Is there any interest for this?

This guy is arguing that all economists are bribed, lol.

Quality Reddit, wouldn't expect much more.

I have a ton of friends who post Bernie Sanders crap on Facebook.

Meanwhile most of my posts have been along the lines of "Under a Deez Nuts Administration, who would be appointed to the CEA?"

I'm going to be That GuyTM at parties closer to the democratic candidate debates.

Most of my friends are very liberal aside from my one art major friend who's a libertarian.

EDIT:

Also I found this.

[–]wumbotarianI want to be the Walrasian Auctioneer when I grow up 2ポイント3ポイント  (2子コメント)

Yep. She's going to one of the top art schools in the US and is a libertarian.

[–]urnbabyurnNeoPanglossian 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

CalArts from experience is some children of very rich families who think their career path is normal and afforded to everyone.

[–]wumbotarianI want to be the Walrasian Auctioneer when I grow up 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Interestingly, the school my friend goes to has a bunch of silver-spoon-up-ass types too. But they're all left-wing, according to her. She actually doesn't come from money (though she does have that horrid white, middle class privilege).

[–]bdubs91Maestro Today and Maestro Forever 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

Ugh. I dislike political discussions on Facebook. No one has ever made a good economic argument on facebook.

It's all Minimum wage = hyper inflation (even had someone say it would prompt the Fed to print more money) from conservatives.

Or Liberal saying incentives don't real.

I can never decide if I should post. I've come so close many times to being like "can you break down this causation for me a little more", when it was obviously nonsense. Social mores seem to dictate I respect everyone's opinion like we're equal. THIS IS BULLSHIT. Someone who has spent 5 minutes "thinking" and concluded that Mexicans caused all our problems does not deserve their opinion respected.

Oh my god, I've just realised something. Arguing on /r/Denmark is just like arguing on Facebook. Just the other day, somebody asked how UBI is viewed in Denmark (not a discussion, because we have great unemployment benefits, FYI), and guy from the far right said "Nope, it costs too much. Also, hyperinflation like we saw in Germany. PS privatize the government". Then I started debating him, and then I realized just how far right he was. He started saying "Prices won't rise, but runaway inflation!!!".

Yup, I tried to debate a Danish Austrian libertarian. Probably the only of his kind

Edit: Link, if you want to see. There are probably some good RI stuff in there
