How the fuck did top right get hried as a security guard?! Who the fuck can he chase after?!

you're not supposed to chase, generally. the main thing is observe and report.

it's entire plausible that he just got off of work and is stopping by the grocery store to pick up a gallon of eggnog and a box of cinnamon toast crunch.

I used to day dream a lot while out with people shopping. Whenever I saw someone on a mart cart I always imagined them in a chase scene (going slower than any living human can walk) with a legion of security guards on identical scooters behind them. There was displays being knocked down, tight corners and roll overs. It would always end with an impossible jump and a giant explosion in the background and our protagonist slowly getting away without looking back....

I got bored easily.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

We bought the VHS of it for some outrageous sum, it's at my parents' house though. The employees running the tours are in SCUBA gear, and have fish food pellets so that big schools of fish swarm around. I'll watch it next time I'm at my folks' house and see if it's worth sharing.

VHS? How long ago did you do this?

Do you do scuba? Just curious if the ear pressure issue was because or something related to the device or normal pressure at depth and you just not being familiar with equalization techniques (or changing depth repeatedly because you were in the device).

No I don't, but I do agree it was probably a personal issue as nobody else seemed to have that complaint.

Well it is a common issue but there are lots of techniques to resolve it - so if you ever go deep again! Take this:

http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/articles/download/DiversGuidetoEars.pdf

[–]Reostat [

I could never pull off any method that didn't require me to pinch my nose, which is impossible in this glass bubble thing.

The device seems to work like a diving bell on a scooter. That would mean the pressure inside the "helmet" wouldn't change based on depth.

The pressure would change inside the helmet exactly the way it changes inside a diving bell which is no different than if you were free diving. The only way it wouldn't change is if the device maintained its pressure in a rigid completely closed container - like a submarine. Take a 2 liter bottle down to depth, it collapses. A diving bell is open at the bottom - the air will compress in the bell and you'll actually see what appears to be less air in the bell when it is at depth. Diving bells don't maintain pressure, they just carry air to the bottom.

Voss underwater adventure right? I'm planning my excursions right now for January and this was on our list.

Actually scuba diving is way more fun!

I would think so too. I've never ridden that scooter in OPs pic, but I have no desire to try it. It looks very limiting. I bet it's very slow. Also, does anyone know if the spherical helmet distorts your view?

One of the best things about scuba diving is when you find something cool, and you can just float over it and around it.

Also, when you first get in the water, get your shit situated, and then go under, and you realize you're 30-50 feet above the ground. It's probably as close to feeling like superman flying through the air as it gets.

I have a conflictual relationship with the depths.

Underwater pictures, and the very idea of swimming next to coral and weird animals, scare me shitless.

Then, as soon as I put the gear on, submerge and start hearing the comforting bubbling of my mouthpiece, all those worries go out the window, and I can't wait to descend to the bottom and start flyovers.

Yeah, it's unnatural. It takes you wayyy out of your comfort zone, but as soon as you pass the point where you can't go back anymore, which is probably sitting (or standing, depending on your method of entry) on the edge of the boat, and you have no choice but to do it, it's kinda un-describable, but you just click and do it.

I'm going scuba diving for the first time in awhile on Friday, so I'm super psyched for it.

Even when you dive in a shitty place, where the coral is dead or there's not much to see, scuba diving is just awesome.

I went diving once and a boatload of those scooter divers showed up at the same reef. It did look super boring compared to diving. I'd flip on my back and they'd wave to me.

For me, the best part of that dive was being the first person down at the bottom, and staring up 30 feet above my head waiting for my dad and the dive guide to join me. I was totally alone at the bottom of the ocean, and it was just really eery and cool. I won't lie, I freaked out a bit when the other boat showed up, but it was still a really cool experience to be looking up at everyone else.

Haha you sound like a great dive partner.

To me, one of my favorite diving memories was when we went to a coral wall, which was a wall of coral on the drop off zone. One minute, I'm looking at an abundance of colors and life, and then you turn 180 degrees and you're staring at the abyss, and the thing about that abyss, is that it stares back at you. You know there are just millions of life forms in somewhere in there, and you're just waiting for one of them to appear out of the haze.

So not skydiving?

I've never been sky diving, but I would say yes, even more so than sky diving. In scuba, you can control your self. Your depth, your location, you can lay on your back a few feet over razor sharp rocks, then flip over and float down around the rocks and check them out

Please be careful! I've seen these a lot when diving. One careless blob rammed into a large stand of elkhorn coral oops, that'll just grow back, will it?.

Most of the places they use these the seafloor and all the coral is about 20-25 feet down. These rarely go below 12-15 feet. So typically not an issue although I suppose still can be.

Yeah, just scuba dive. You can do discovery dives for cheaper, go deeper, last longer, go farther, and get closer to the coral.

I used to go scuba diving all the time and would swim past, under these guys and just wave at them, laughing cause they paid 2-3 times more than I did.

[–]Sorlex 1

Thank god no. I've had to tell people that I won't take them out diving because they were too out of shape to carry their gear into the water. I'm a cold water guide and a lot of these people think it's as easy as warm water diving, it's not.

Plz, do tell.

I can see a lot of things that can go wrong and cause someone to panic. I'm assuming the neck seal that keeps the head dry is made of latex and as we all know latex can fail. There seems to be no way to clear your ears under that dome which combined with the speed of a underwater scooter can cause bad squeeze issues. I'm assuming this person has little dive experience as an experienced diver would not use one of those. That being said a scooter can allow for rapid accents and descents, both can kill you. The regulators 1st stage intermediate pressure could start to run hot and cause the second stage to free flow causing the dome to bubble from the seal and flood. The regulator hose which is encased in that thing could crack and fail and with no backup you drown. If the scooter batteries fail then you're kinda shit out of luck. Fat collects nitrogen more so this woman is more likely to be bent, this thing allows someone to get around a dive class/swim test which would possibly rule her out of diving. Ok I know this isn't 20 and my grammar ain't to good but I'm super hungover. Basically it's and over complicated contraption with many points of failure and then you add a fat tourist to the mix. From my experience doing underwater tours people who are out of shape panic way more often as they tend to struggle a little more. Panic is the vulture that sits on every divers shoulder.

There is no seal, air pressure would keep out water. One could just clear ears by bringing hand to nose. Likely this is done in place with shallow bottom and supervision.

Edit: from searching videos to prove the hands to nose found it appears these are generally tethered to a float at the surface thus having an effective shallow bottom.

As a humble beginner diver, I wonder if the tourists who use this contraption have the same extensive 2-day open water course, including theory of how you can die without even drowning, before embarking on that thing.

No they don't. There are five programs designed to get around a full open water class. Mainly designed for tourists in tropical destinations.

Imagine the cable snaps and you lose power and just start sinking. Sounds horrifying :( Drowning just sounds so terrifying in general. I can't imagine the absolute panic of running out of air knowing you can't make it to air :/ I would like to hear some of the ways this can kill you, you know, for my nightmares to feed off of.

For me, not accurate at all. If you are lucky, you might see one fat person in a scooter, no wrestling ring (thank god)... Hell, there might be some people with a little extra weight, but barely any who have gocks and gunts (guts that hang down below your cock or cunt).

I'm beginning to suspect this sort of shit happens more East Coast America than West...

I once saw a competition where two races competed across land and the first one to the water leg of the race got to choose one of two items leaving the remaining item to their competitor.

One item was one of these the other was a pair of webbed gloves. They choose the gloves and left the contraption to their opponent.

They fought so hard trying to use that thing but the water was cloudy and half the time they couldn't see where they were going.

Ended up losing a whole lot of time vs the one with the gloves.

I tried scuba lessons in cuba. I couldn't calm my breathing enough to be comfortable. It's a very constrained feeling. Is there a trick?

honestly? breathe like darth vader.

slow, deepish breaths, and then exhale slowly. the hurrr.... perrrr... was a good speed for diving breathing. also, don't feel like you need to go everywhere super fast, just go slow and relax!

I was trying...but I would "over breath" if that makes sense. I was able to swim around the pool a couple of times but I was never comfortable and would never trust myself to go in the ocean. I think with proper lessons vs. the 30 minute Cuba lessons, I would be more comfortable.

Just got back from my last scuba trip and I get the feelings you're getting. It's like drinking air out of a straw and it could be veryyy uncomfortable but the best way to deal with this is to try and master your breathing. Breathing underwater is a skill and becoming comfortable with it will really help you out on your next dive!
