Don't say that they'll have to hide in their room full of puppies, coloring books, and bubbles.

I may be willing to let people cut in line in front of me in exchange for a visit to a room full of puppies.

go to most american colleges. they're called "safe rooms" where you can't be triggered for the PTSD you experienced in a starbucks when someone called you by the wrong gender and everyone stare-raped you.

I sexually identify as a white, cisgendered, male Redditor. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of having no empathy whatsoever, complaining about feminism and reposts, being needlessly pedantic, and making tired jokes about "tumblrinas". People say to me that a person being white, male Redditor is impossible and I'm fucking retarded but I don't care, I'm beautiful. I'm having a plastic surgeon install a World of Warcraft t-shirt, a fedora and a neckbeard on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me "Cory" and respect my right to complain about ethics in video game journalism and my right to make the same, well-trod, "hilarious" joke over and over and over and over and over. If you can't upvote me you're a neckbeardaphobe and need to check your white male Redditor privilege. Thank you for being so understanding.

Someone can't handle SJW jokes. What's funny is that what you are whining about here you simultaneously do in the same paragraph.

Everyone is equal, some are just more equal than others

Every woman is created equal, some are just more equal than men.

Reddit has gone [0] seconds without an overblown Orwell reference.

TIL that quote is from Orwell, :/

Animal Farm, to be precise.

I know, I googled it. Is Animal Farm worth reading?

it will take you like 2 hours and well well worth it.

Absolutely. It's much better than 1984

that is good. I feel like I am the only one who thinks nineteen eighty four is highly overrated. The first part is a great reflection on the dangers of propaganda and big brother but the actual story after that is very lacking.

I don't think it's overrated at all. It is a fantastic book and surely one of the best ever written. I just said that Animal Farm is even better.

if you hate reading, there's also a movie :D

No, George Orwell's Animal Farm, you philistine.

Makes you wonder whether there are any feminists who know what equality actually means.

B-but--she's too old! She's just a crotchety old conservative! She's been brainwashed for years to be okay with being oppressed and has developed Stockholm Syndrome towards her enslavers!

If you'll excuse me, I need to go lie down for a while. That hurt my soul to type.

Everyone wants equality so long as it means they're more equal than others.

Is this a feminist event though? The feminists I know, including myself, would roll their eyes and point out that "ladies first" defeats the purpose of gender equality. I'm guessing this is just someone's failed attempt to celebrate "women's equality day" with a misconception of women's equality actually means.

Ladies First is the name of an organization, I don't think it is intended as a directive here.

If that's the case, that's some shoddy name selection for an equality organization.

Based on shoddy definition of the word equality. Equality of opportunity not equality of result.

    Equality of result is totalitarian

    Because egalitarianism=equality.

Third wave thinks equality means superiority though.

I agree, most feminists don't think that feminism means to give women advantages.

I think the point of this is to raise awareness of inequality, not to demonstrate equality. It's to showcase what inequality looks and feels like, so that you think about -- and try to acknowledge -- its existence in other areas of life. It's an attempt to make men the oppressed gender so that they know what oppression feels like, contrary to their "male privilege" on any other day.

This would be akin to making whites sit at the back of the bus on black equality day. Not because that's what equality is, but so that you know what it feels like. So that when you see oppression in the future, you empathize more with it. By raising awareness of an issue, as opposed to fighting it, you are more equipped to acknowledge it in the future when you see something you previously were accustomed to ignoring or accepting as normal.

This isn't how I'd go about celebrating Women's Equality Day, but I'm guessing that was their thought process behind it.

Like the air conditioner being too cold for cute summer dresses! Kill all men!

This isn't raising awareness for anything though. It just says "ladies first". Unless women are being unfairly made to wait at the back of lines while men get to go first?

    It just says "ladies first"

It also says "Women's Equality Day." It's very obviously trying to make you think about equality of the sexes, which was the entire reason it was posted here and in /r/pics and frontpaged on both. You can't say it isn't raising awareness of inequality while simultaneously talking about inequality.

raising awareness of inequality while simultaneously talking about inequality

Naw, that's just the name of the organisation.

Wow, that's a good point. I didn't think about it like that before.

I seriously doubt that much thought went into this.

I feel like being a Feminist in the first world is like being a Christian Rights Activist. You already won, there is nothing left to campaign for. How does Women's Equality Day even work? Do women get equal prison sentences as men? Are custody battles based on the benefit to the child and not the gender of the parent? Do men get their own gender specific gym buildings and hospitals? How about safe places?

According to /u/SleepDeprivedPegasus, men are treated more unfairly than women and women have triumphed after millennia of inequality... Congratulation, you have just been promoted to mod of /r/MensRights!

I feel like being a Feminist in the first world is like being a Christian Rights Activist. You already won, there is nothing left to campaign for

Hahahahahaha, have you heard literally anything about feminism at all? Literally any single thing? Because you saying that definitely implies that you haven't even taken a microsecond to learn about women's issues.

You already won, there is nothing left to campaign for.

That's kind of like saying "well we made sure Hitler will no longer fight us or our allies but he still controls all of Europe but we won so it doesn't matter."

Just because it's better for women now doesn't mean things are where they should be.

I'm guessing you're talking about the "patriarchy" or something. It's not mens' fault that women can't get positions in tech or hold office in the same quantities, my friend. It's all biological.

Are you telling me that a large number of feminists who are completely rational people with intelligent beliefs? This isn't what reddit told me!

Reddit doesn't care about those feminists. They can't talk about women if women aren't been offensive.

I don't think Emma Watson and her massive heforshe movement (which is explicitly about female domination) would agree with you.

    [–]PM_ME_A_CONVERSATION 45ポイント46ポイント  (23子コメント)

I, too, am subscribed to /r/pics, and saw this with 3500 upvotes yesterday!

So? There's nothing wrong with cross posting to a more specific sub. Especially since plenty of people unsub to /r/pics because it has zero moderation (resulting in countless "look who I ran into today" posts and the like).

I was trying to figure out if this one is different. Wasn't sure how this was a first world anarchist action.

Equality doesn't mean you get in line first, it just means you don't get in line last.

    Yes?

Oh! Why didn't you just say that from the beginning.

If they encourage women to go first, they are not encouraging equality but the complete opposite. Just in their favour.

People only want better conditions for themselves not equality.

    equality

    ladiesfirst

    Ohhhh

This is why I shouldn't go on reddit the minute I wake up. Need some time for my brain to warm up.

If i cuddle your head will that help warm it up?

First it says that women should be equal to men. Then it says "Ladies First."

    Feminist here.

I'm embarrassed by that sign. :-(

Well the good news is that it was an advertisement not a feminists sign.

    Thank fuck for that!

    It's still pretty awful though

    That sign sums up feminism.

    Noooooo....

Some of us believe men and women should be equal, straight down the line. No preferential treatment.

Most men agree. Military having two sets of standards for men and women is rediculious. I knew damn well no woman I worked with could have pulled me out of a firefight if I was down.

EO quotas have lead to many men and or whites to be turned down for less qualified applicants so organizations can be reflective of census style demographics.

    No it doesn't.

Edit: If you think this sums up feminism then you have no idea what feminism is.

Depends on what kind you're talking about.

So by that logic, if more women join than clients can be handled, men will never ever get what they want.

Wow, literally 1st world bitches !

Feminism is a movement of first world anarchists, an equality movement that has made and tweeted #KillAllMen and who could forget the other month's #GiveYourMoneyToWomen

Notice how it says "Women's equality" and not "Equality".

Yeah! We're all considered equal now! Ladies first!
