White people eat snails, sheep stomach, and whatever the fuck goes into hot dogs.

My dad told me that in the slaughter houses they killed cows with a sledge hammer, and hot dogs were made from the stuff that was swept off the floor at the end of the day, basically what splattered off their heads.

We read a lot of Calvin and Hobbes together.

"Why are Americans so messed up? Double-fudge, deep-fried, corn-syrup from a fellow american making slave-wages?"

A lot of Asian cultures actually view cheese as what it is, spoiled milk, and find the mere thought of it as revolting as westerners find eating raw octopus or whatever.

Should probably frame the situation, I posted a video eating live octopus in Korea, and a friend of mine which is a really cool person posted this comment (more ignorant than racist), just curious to know what you guys think? And how you guys would respond, if anything?

First, you should point out that he/she is coming from a Western-centric view of food taboos and that Western culture also consumes food considered taboo in other cultures.

Second, you should mention that not all Asians eat the listed foods and it's offensive for Asians to lump them all together. Many Asians might also consider these foods to be taboo.

Depending on the commenter's views on the environment and food, you can also use the arguments that 'Asian' cultures are significantly older than 'European' ones, and that many established Asian cultures (as a larger unit over time) utilize more of their resources for food and products, whereas we waste an inordinate amount of protein and calories here in the 'Western world.'

This video makes me so angry. Not only is it misleading, but he's basically advocating throwing away good food on the grounds that you're gross and weird if you like it.

"don't knock it until you've tried it" is my motto. i myself know for a fact that i don't like chicken feet because i've actually eaten some before. that gummy texture…

unusual animals and their organs/offal are eaten all around the world, yet east asian diets—which aren't a single, monolithic entity by any means—seem to get a lot more flack in western media than those from other parts of the world. for example, large grubs and worms (easy-to-come-by, excellent sources of protein) are consumed (alive) in many regions in the tropics, and yet no-one seems to care about how different that might be from the western diet. the bias is based in ignorance and stereotyping, i.e. the idea that east asians have a bizarre and backwards culture, plus the idea that the world outside of eurasia and north america is too underdeveloped to have access to "normal food" (or any food at all). the criticisms normally don't have to do with any valid concerns about physical health/safety or environmental sustainability—which would make more sense to me than just saying "wtf, that's messed up…".

so you could respond by saying that you'd rather eat healthier and less expensive sources of protein and nutrients than depend solely on conventional meats loaded with hormones and artificial chemicals that were produced by destroying nature and exploiting poor people.

(btw, i'm totally on board with arguments against the poaching of endangered animal species demanded by people who consume them based on a belief that consuming the animals' parts has medicinal properties and health benefits—it is said to be largely a phenomenon among the growing middle class in china and other countries in asia. that is really unethical to me.)

Tell this person how Foie Gras is made. Or veal.
