The most significant part of this tournament in my opinion is not any of the competitors. It is Jackie Lee commentating.

Even if she isn't the best at it, it shows a huge progression of our community and represents the future of magic.

I'll be honest, I'd much prefer a female commentator that has actually shown she's made it in the game and is good on the mic (Melissa DeTora comes to mind) to be in the booth this week than Jackie.

No offense to Jackie, but I'm really not digging her on commentary.

Agreed. I just get no enthusiasm from Jackie, so it is basically just dry play-by-play being added, which others can do better.

I disagree, she has added to the modern commentary

Care to explain why, for those of us who are not familiar with Jackie's background?

Also shes a development team member, and the 1st/2nd most successful female pro-player.

She's the first woman commentator at a professional Magic event.

oh, the way Flaming Telepath phrased his comment, I thought there was something else going on.

Well it is also that new commentators are very rare in Magic - we've only seen two new faces in the last season (Ian Duke and Kenji). The whole community has been telling Wizards that their commentary sucks, and now they are adding more commentators, which shows that they are trying to improve.

It helps that Jackie has a lot more premier level play experience than most of the rest of the people they have on coverage.

So far she seemed off to a rocky start, but hopefully she can find her stride. It wasn't as if she looked like a deer in headlights, but rather that she might just need more practice.

Used to work in media... it's amazing how people who normally are very personable and awesome in person positively DON'T know how to handle themselves in front of a camera. I've met Jackie in real life and she's super cool in person, I don't see that same Jackie on coverage today, but let's hope she loosens up and bit and feels more comfortable as the day goes on.

No, that's stupid.

The most significant part of this tournament (and every tournament) are the competitors.

This is the Magic: The Gathering World Championship. Not The Jackie Lee Show.

If Jackie Lee decided not to show up to work today, the show would go on.

What in the world are you talking about.....this is literally the world championship for MTG and the most significant part is a commentator? That's completely absurd.

Yeah. And to all the people who've been complaining about her performance so far: I've been watching guys do terrible commentary at the Pro Tour for over ten years now. If they've gotten to screw up so much on camera, then surely Jackie Lee (and other women) can be given a chance!
