As a former jD volunteer, the reason I left is discrimination. The higher ups of the volunteer staff act very aggressively toward anyone who is not from EU. This doesnt include Tobi cap and the like, but some of the higher up admins and such treated me very poorly from being a NA member so I left during TI4. I told holy master why i was leaving and no one cared and nothing was changed.

As a former senior staffer at joinDOTA I say you're lying. They didn't bash you because you're from NA, but because you acted like a dick to everyone else. Heck, most people complained about you.

joinDOTA has MANY issues, discrimination isn't one of them.

Edit : I stayed there for over 2 years.

Be nice to EU volunteers, they're just taking out their anger on the fact that their scene is becoming less and less relevant.

It's getting common for South Americans to pull the "racism" or "xenophobe"-card as a result of their own poor ability to abide by the rules set in activities they participate in. We've seen this with immigrants of middle-eastern descend in Europe for the past 10 years now. Say something negative or mildly leading towards being negative and you're suddenly full blown racist.

Your comment wasn't xenophobic and the actions taken may have been wrong, but the way he presented it was so poorly and without any evidence to back himself up. Although skype-chats were presented, going through Reddit to blow up a storm about something that isn't really of any concern to 99.9% of Redditors just seem like what I mentioned before; pulling the racism/xenophobe-card out of desperation or wanting to be treated as a victim.

Now, I don't know how you run things at JoinDotA, but perhaps it would be an idea to organize SA-divisons away from your regular NA-divisons and find a tournament administrator that is from SA, who knows the SA players mentality and culture. That should ensure that they can't simply continue taking on the role of a victim everytime they feel wronged.

Were they wronged? Certainly. Was it due to racism/xenophobism? Certainly not.

This should have been resolved internally, as it actually seemed to have been, but paiN Gaming seems to overcomplicate the issue as to being a matter of xenophobism, which just makes them seem non-trustworthy as of now.

The generalization you do is the definition of racism. In Greece probably we have more migrants than your country.I ve seen the best and the worst like it happens with every human.

I dont get it...dont u guys understand that saying "all Greeks are lazy","all Germans are nazi","all Italians are in mafia" etc is racist and it makes no sense at all??No??Think again. Then i am wondering why Golden Dawn has so high percentages...i am starting to believe that in Central/Northern Europe they would have even more.

[–]I'm just following n0tailDoogieHueserMD [

Yeah no shit. One or two people doing this does not allow you to make generalizations either in Europe or in Dota.

Even the majority of people doing it doest not allow you to make generalizations. You have to treat each human by his own name.

[–]I'm just following n0tailDoogieHueserMD [

Definitely agreed, I don't want anyone to think I was implying that it's ever okay to judge someone based on your previous experiences with similar people.

We have two SA divisions and one NA division in division 2 and they are separated to respect server preferences while trying to keep it balanced. We were talking about match between two South American teams, a Brazilian and a Peruvian.

All right. I was under the assumption that paiN Gaming played in the NA division.

It's not racism/xenophobia at all. The best term would be discrimination. But in this case the discrimination is actually in favor of SA players, because the admins are more lenient with them as stated by the OP. So SA gets away with more rulebreaking than other regions and yet they're crying about that.

As a Brazilian who lives abroad, let me put some perspective on the "xenophobia" word used.

The thing is, xenophobia is very rare in Brazil, there are no immigration issues like USA or Europe, so this work is almost never thrown around.

Therefore it is common to use it on a lighter tone like the situation here, I agree what happened was not xenophobia. I also wished Paingaming had used another word, but I just want to give this view of how the word is used in Brazil.

By the way, I don't know where the "racism" allegations came from other than NA blaming Paingaming of using the "racist card".

It indeed is discrimination. 1/ He just says they are more lenient but doesn't prove it in anyway. 2/ I understand the frustration of SA players who can't communicate with an admin without generalized judgements because they are from SA. How would anyone like to be put in a box just from their nationality ? Is it ok now to call USA people fat with guns ?

Who is the admin discriminating against in the pain situation? THEY'RE BOTH SA TEAMS.

Both teams ? By saying "SA teams doesn't follow the rules" "SA teams doesn't care" bla bla. Did anybody read this : http://imgur.com/a/kxUhW

It's obvious he isn't complaining about the punishment itself but the way the situation is handled (or more precisely ignored because they are SA teams so they don't deserve attention).

Also /u/D41V30N isnt even from europe and apparently doesnt live there either. Shows you how much he knows.

[–]THE CRIT!xkvicd -1

Do you want to forbid us to tell the truth to world?

[–]Dblitzer [

You have to pull this stuff though. That's how the social theater works. I mean, if I'm a total douchebag to middle-eastern immigrants (Or really anyone. Doesn't just have to be racism. Any sort of social group will do). Then I'm the bad guy, which just can't stand.

But if everyone is overreacting toward things that are "Mildly negative" (That's suspiciously vague). Then I get to feel good about myself. Just a truth-teller and a hero against those people.

All you have to do is rephrase the language. And suddenly your terrible assumptions about and mistreatment of people can all be okay!

Thanks for proving the point. "you cannot pull this because I don't agree!"

But it's the exact same thing.. While the parallel has different contexts, the situation is the same: Fart the wrong way, you're a racist because they pull out the victim card at every fucking chance.

The South american scene will never get anywhere, their mentalities are fucking pathetic.

Why would he not say the truth while making his point though?

I wish I could upvote this more. Playing the racism card every time one little thing doesn't go your way is really low, and these SA players are always the first to do it. Even when they are 100% in the wrong, it's racism. A SA team pauses the game for 5 minutes to ghost streams then gets called out on it? Racism. Peru player in your MM game feeds 0-4 in the first 10 minutes mid and you tell him to stop feeding? Racism. Even in this case where paiN may have actually been wronged, it's ridiculous to cry xenophobia. I've lost all respect for their team.

(Captain of NLBA JDL division 2 here)

Having played in all the JDL seasons up until now, I can honestly say you have been doing a great job too although being strict, they have worked with us on ESL quals after an originally super strict ruling, which is great and shows they are improving. But besides that one issue we have had no complaints about JDL, and never have we experienced any sort of fucking racism playing SA teams. We even have a old SA player and now manager.

These accusations blew up for ridiculous reasons, SA IS IN THERE OWN DIVISION, how could you be fucking racist?

And now that Pain have complained publicly like that JDL is put in an awkward spot because you can't "punish" them for something like this. Fucking shame on them, you're doing well Drakolich.

These accusations blew up for ridiculous reasons, SA IS IN THERE OWN DIVISION, how could you be fucking racist?

Exactly. It's one thing to complain about the difference in treatment between two teams, but when they're both SA it's literally impossible to say the difference in treatment is due to xenophobia and racism.

Except he didn't complain about a different treatment between teams (which were both SA), the accusation of xenophobia doesn't come from the punishment for being late. But, the way the situation was handled. They were SA so the admin seemed to be disrespectful and made generlized judgment about SA teams. THAT is the problem.

They say they're getting discriminated against based on race and yet their opponents were also an SA team. How does that even work?

[–]Check your posture everytime you see this!

yeah sa is one big country with only one type of people so it's okay to generalize them all...

Also the OP is also biased and putting pain gaming in a very bad point. Did they fuck up by implying racism? Definetly yes. Did they get the attention for their problem? Yep. But saying i made so much sacrifice for the scene and not talkin about the real point, the punishment for admin that caused all these drama or a compensation for the "not equal punishment" or at least a fuckin apology... OP is just manipulating and saying what everyone wants to hear.

[–]Dassn [

They didn't imply, they wrote clearly and repeatedly XENOPHOBIA WITH CAPITALIZATION (and a bunch of other insults)

and the incident have been addressed by OP on the second paragraph

[–]I'm a fangay and proudFatalFirecrotch [

The admin was at fault as well since he didn't know where the rule was coming from, which is not acceptable. I scolded them both since their lack of knowledge was partly responsible for this situation.

In this case BenQ made an incorrect decision, punishing only Pain Gaming for not being ready to start the game at 5+ minutes with a level one penalty, since he should have given penalty to both teams(the penalty is 30 seconds reduced bonus time in drafting). I was sick so I came online after going to bed since I couldn't sleep just to see the situation as it is and decided that the fairest way to handle it was to give the same penalty in game 2 to TLC.

Why the fuck would the guy apologize? He admits that their admin fucked up, but they supposedly fixed it in the best way possible. If Pain gaming weren't such whinny bitches there wouldn't even be a problem.

Xenophobia, not racism. One team is Brazilian, other is Peruvian. Not that I agree with his statements.

Implying Admins fucking give a shit between the difference in BR and Peru. To them they're all the fucking same. They're all SA.

Xenophobia would imply they hate ALL foreigners, and considering both teams were from SA that can't be the case.

I'm no linguist. But if you search examples of xenophobia the crimes are always particular about one country/ethnicity/culture and you could argue that the criminals were ok with other countries/ethnicities/cultures, so I don't know.

[–]i fucking hate youdmcredgrave

Hello, residential linguist/buzzkill. Xenophobia would imply a disdain towards anyone from a group/nation/faction/whatever that is not a part of your own. Racism would imply directed disdain towards a specific group/nation/faction/whatever, so in this case xenophobia is an incorrect term.

[–]THE CRIT!xkvicd 13

Pain is crying but they don't know rules.

Pain cries about unfair treatment towards SA when in reality admins are more lenient and give SA better treatment than everyone else.

The comment about "SA teams are always bla bla" was still unnecessary and quite discriminatory towards SA but not that awful. I don't see why you describe your life to justify it.

What you could do : "I'm sorry my comment was inappropriate but I was under a lot of pressure. I didn't mean to generalize about SA. Still, I'd like rules to be followed more often."

End of drama

[–]Dassn 3

I don't see why you describe your life to justify it.

It's to provide the full context of the xenophobic accusation, if he just said like you suggested I'm sure people would call it unsincere and corporate bullcrap

If SA teams are causing the most issues then why is it wrong to say so?

Because it's always wrong to make statements about whole populations without even trying to understand people individually. Would you say musulman = terrorists just because statistics shows that many terrorists are musulman ?
