My legendary tweet storm about Mozilla

Yesterday I gave notice after nearly 4 years at Mozilla. Once I started talking about why, I couldn't stop. Part 2: https://storify.com/christi3k/more-reasons-i-m-leaving-mozilla

  1. Understanding how to create accessible, safe spaces is not an intrinsic quality. It is a skillset built through practice & listening.

  2. So tired as being seen as ridiculous at Mozilla for advocating for these things. Why am I still here?

  3. It's really because I this no one else will hire me. Is that true?

  4. I think I should go back to programming full-time. More jobs. Clear career progression.

  5. Wrapping up my work at Mozilla this month, taking a break and then looking for my next career adventure!

  6. So many things I no longer have to spend energy trying to fix or ignore.

  7. Maybe my next employer will have out queer folks and >1 PoC in leadership. Is that too much to ask?

  8. Oh oh and maybe they would *publicly* support their queer employees, not thinking it too controversial to do so.

  9. I'm humbled by the supportive and encouraging messages from y'all today. Thank you so much!

  10. Pondering if I could raise enough support to work on @stumpsyn full time for a some while.

  11. I'm not going to outlast the co-worker who told me I didn't belong, but I did outlast the manager who gaslighted me for nearly a year.

  12. We'll just skip over the death threat I got. No biggie, right?

  13. There's the time I raised the issue of alcohol use at company events with our head of HR and got a speech about personal responsibility.

  14. @alolita yeah that happened back in 2012 when I was talking publicly about how Mozilla needed a code of conduct

  15. Hetero couples get married in our offices, but publicly acknowledging SCOTUS marriage equality decision would be too "controversial."

  16. I wasn't planning to do this, at least until after my last day, but I can't stop myself.

  17. We have zero support for addressing and resolving conflict, which means rampant conflict avoidance and passive aggressiveness.

  18. We tell people to speak their mind, but marginalize those who do when what they say doesn't match the status quo.
