UBlock Origin is lightyears better than Adblock. https://www.maketecheasier.com/ublock-origin-better-than-adblock-plus/

lightyears better

From the article:

In closing, there isn’t a great difference between the two.

Emphasis mine. Even the article concludes they're more or less the same. I'm not saying I care what people use, but c'mon. They're both good at blocking ads.

Except you missed the part where it was stated that Ublock Origin was more powerful while using less system resources, and having more customization options.

Despite uBlock having greater customization capabilities and using less system resources, AdBlock Plus is still perfectly fine at what it does.

If, however, you decide that you’d like a more powerful adblockerr, or if the one you have is using up too much of your precious processing power, consider making the switch.

I didn't. The conclusion is contradictory at best. Most people would probably never notice a difference in the real world.

LOL came here to say this. It's far better.

Have an upvote XD

LOL

Also for the skeptical, check out the benchmarks:

regular AdBlock is better than the AdBlock Plus (its a clone)

Adblock plus is a fork not a clone, and it is better than adblock.

AdBlockPlus is the original, AdBlock is the fork.

If I block YouTube ads, are content creators still paid for them?

No they are not. You can of course choose to whitelist YouTube or simply pause Adblock before clicking the link. I'm not sure if whitelisting only a particular channel is possible.

On AdBlock it is, but it starts to become fuzzy after whitelisting more than 20 or so channels. ABP doesn't have that capability.

Note: Content creators are not paid for ads unless you watch the first 30 seconds of the ad (or the whole ad, if it's shorter than 30 seconds)

I don't use AdBlock because I believe people who create content I enjoy deserve compensation. Also I'll gladly take the minor nuisance of ads over the major nuisance of subscriptions and paywalls.

PSA don't use adblock unless you want to destroy the internet as we know it and have everything move behind a pay wall.

I'd actually be interested to see if a pay-walled Internet could work.

The main problem right now is that online payments are really really really really inconvenient. But if that was solved, it wouldn't be terrible.

Imagine you go to http://somenewssite.example/article/123456, and you get a popup message from your browser - "somenewssite.example wants $0.05 to allow you access for the next 24 hours. Approve payment?", and you click "Yes", and you instantly pay and have access.

It remains to be seen whether sites would abuse that, though... say, by charging $20, or by asking for $1/24 hours on every page load (without actually letting you keep using it for the next 24 hours).

This... This is sarcasm right?

You do not actually think that is a good idea, do you?

It's a potentially viable idea - as in, it won't necessarily lead to a terrible outcome. If it were to happen, I'd like to see the consequences.

I would never like to see those consequences.

Sounds pretty suseptable to going too far

There's a new and better Chrome plugin I like to use called PaycheckBlock™. It literally keeps content creators from getting paid for their work yet I still get to view their content without having to suffer though 4 seconds of video before I hit the skip button.

You should try the beta of PaycheckBlock 2.0, I hear it comes with 30% more smug satisfaction!

Don't forget the extra satisfaction of self entitlement for enjoying something people put work into without giving anything back in return!

No one is watching your trash YouTube channel. Get a real job.

I don't have a trash YouTube channel anonymous angry guy. I'm just speaking to the idea that people create things for people to view or read on the internet and the only way they get paid is from those ads. Reddit itself would collapse without ad revenue. So, when you block those ads you're in a way saying, "Hey, that developer who's keeping the Reddit server up and running for me, I don't really care if that person get paid this week or can even keep his/her job." Do whatever you want though. I was just bringing up the point.

Don't even try to argue with people from this subreddit. These people are the most self-entitled people I have ever seen. Just look at any topic about piracy, they think they're some freedom fighter internet warrior every time a piracy news comes up. They will give you thousands of reasons why their piracy is justified and why is Hollywood's fault that they pirate their content.

It's because they're poor plebs who have never tried to create and sell anything in their life.

I have whitelisted Reddit because they don't force me to watch intrusive 30 second ads only to find out that the video I've decided to check out is complete garbage. I.E. your youtube channel.

I want an ad blocker where you can restrict ads based on how obtrusive they are.

They ancient style narrow banners, or side squares, I don't mind at all. Ads that are clearly ads are fine.

What got me to move to uBlock was ads that would take over the whole screen, stupid car ads that would drive across my monitor obscuring everything, autoplaying video ads that I couldn't track down in 30 tabs.

Or ads that are disguised in amongst the regular article links on some sites. They are misleading and too covert for my liking.

yes uBlock is better if you want a customized experience.

Do you trust AdBlock’s creators with all of your browsing history and personal data?

its just one guy who gets supported by paypal donations, do I trust him over google? yes.

I use Adblock on my laptop. Is there a way to block ads on my iPhone (Safari or any other browser)?

If IOS has Firefox you could try Firefox and Ublock Origin.

yes in iOS9 beta right now there are new way to block ads. If it makes it to live release you will be happy.

AdBlock also tracks users. And it blocks ads until a company ponies up some cash to be added to the white list. AdBlock is simply another company able to make big dollars of the "open source" "community" etc etc labels they exploit.

There are two different adblockers called "adblock". The more popular one (I think it's "Edge") is safe and doesn't have any company behind it.

There's also ublock origin as well.

I upvoted you. The best Adblock fork was Adblock Edge. It didn't have paid whitelists. It was also reported in April that it was being discontinued. It may have been because of the better performance of ublock coupled with the fact that they don't have paid whitelists. http://www.ghacks.net/2015/04/13/popular-adblock-plus-fork-adblock-edge-to-be-discontinued/

no thats "AdBlock Plus" you are talking about.

AdBlock is the original and there is no white list to speak of.

PS: AdBlock Plus is made by a different company and does accept payments from google and Microsoft. (you can still block those just not by default.) Just use regular AdBlock it works great you can also use all the other adblockers there are a few of them they all work!

Adblock also gets paid by websites to white list them. Adblock Plus has a better ads initiative that charges sites to get whitelisted, but those sites ads have to adhere to strict guidelines voted on by the community. Just use Ublock Origin. It is better and no one can pay to be white listed.

Is there adblock for Chrome on Android?

[–]Zeike 2

Don't know about Chrome, but uBlock Origin works fine on Firefox for Android.

AdBlock for Chrome

Using a browser made by an advertising company. Trying to block ads. Lol.

NoScript + Ghostery

But wasn't Ghostery bought out by an advertising company?

it works, I have never seen a youtube commercial, don't even know how they look like
