I'm really not surprised. This is usually a sport played by fellas who get frustrated and need to beat the shit out of each other. Class? Look at the lack of sportsmanship with Hockey in general.

If you don't know anything about hockey don't make a comment about hockey. The NHL in general is made of of teams and players who have respect for the game, other players, and its traditions. Anyhow I am not going to argue but I am sure you have a few downvotes headed your way for that comment - in r/Canada none the less.

... yeah, that lack of sportsmanship when they shake hands at the end of every round of playoffs.

Kind of a dumb argument to make considering the players who walked came up in Russian and European hockey cultures which doesn't have fighting. Like if you don't like fighting in hockey that's fine but this has nothing to do with that.

You're right though, a sport that has allowances for brawls to break out, to the degree that they are practically expected every game, doesn't really breed sportsmanship.

Well, I'm going to follow you into downvote oblivion... I've pulled my kids out of hockey for similar reasons. Some parents' behavior is borderline psychopathic, and it breeds an exclusionist, win-at-all-costs atmosphere.

The best sports I've found for sportsmanship and camaraderie (at least for the kids) are rugby and rock climbing. I've never seen such gentlemanly head-bashing as on a rugby pitch. And rock-climbing competitions - while physically grueling - are like a giant love-in.

You have never seen fighting in rugby? I played for 10 years a d trust me there us dirty stuff going on in those rucks and piles. Punch a guy? Ref let's you have a revenge kick or stomp and just let's it go, you don't hit back and he might call it.

Every sport has this, but I've found rugby to have comparatively little of it - at least in that age range (10-17) and the coaches really come down on the kids if they start getting rowdy or disrespectful.

Really, though, my biggest problem with hockey is (some of) the parents. It seemed every event the stands were ready to break into a brawl. In contrast, rugby seems to have the least asshats of the more common team sports.

You really have no idea what you're talking about. Growing up playing both I can tell you first hand that rugby can at times get really nasty in rucks and scrums and almost always a ref will miss it. About the parents issue, go to any other country and watch their favourite sport being played by their kids and parents can be just as nasty if not worse. States with football, UK with soccer.
