Gatlin fucked up. He was too focused on bolt and didn't run his own race. If he didn't panic and held his form he would have won.

I think that's the one thing most people forgot when looking at this matchup (myself included). No one has been at Gatlin's level since Bolt fell off the scene and so Gatlin's never been truly pressured since making his comeback. The whole game changes when there's actually someone next to you after 60m.

I don't think his presence was really felt from Moscow on in a competitive sense - until the London DL meet last month it was a question to many whether he'd even be at Beijing at all. Gatlin had effectively been running the show from 2014 until now.
