I'm not really getting that vibe tbh. Sure, it tends to be more to the center than here, but SRD tends to be more progressive than most of Reddit (not a big accomplishment though). I think an important thing to keep in mind is that SRD is not a politically motivated community, and thus you'll get a mix of viewpoints and a mix of upvoted things since the sub is more about laughing at people than bringing people with a common stance together. In many threads you'll see a lot of SRS like comments, but in others you'll see more conservative ones, all with similar amounts of upvotes. It's a mixed bag, sort of like AskReddit. Sometimes in AskReddit you'll see terrible threads like "what's your shitty opinion" but then others enough are more progressive. Communities like SRD are just hard to categorize due to their politically heterogeneous nature. I would veer away from being binary when labeling subs like that as reactionary or progressive, it just doesn't work in my opinion.

They got a huge influx recently with the fattening, and then again with CT, exacerbated by the fact that these happened during the summer.

I find the shift to be rather mild for the most part, but the big posts are now hitting more people's front page so there you will find SRD threads fall more in line with reddit et al.

/u/alesa is right though; the progressive element is somewhat new.

It's mostly brogressives and liberals who are nearly always quick to show an about face?

This is SRD you're talking about. It's not meant to be a progressive space and used to be outright reactionary, and imo, being reactionary is the fate of any community that dedicates itself to criticising people in general for being too angry. Marginalized people who are angry for very legitimate reasons make an easy target.

I think they've always reflected whatever the opposite of reddit's main stream lean is at the time, because that's where the drama be. Of course reddit has always had it's racist element, and been largely sexist, but I think Stormfront and GG's popularity here (which are related IMHO) has made the reactionary side of reddit louder and more drama prone, so SRD has been attracting more progressive readers.

My theory anyways.

SRD has had a lot of ideological miniature schisms over the years, the 'SRS-lite' stuff was the new stuff in the first place and considered a devolution by many reactionary elements therein who have been complaining about anything that looks even slightly left of them for years

I spend a huge amount of time in SRD and I have also noticed this change in the past month or 2. My guess is it is because SRD hit /r/all several times since the FPH banning and that lead to a huge influx of new members with more "standard Reddit" opinions. You also get threads like the ghazi thread yesterday that get brigaded by people taking advantage of a chance to shit on the other side.

It's also worth mentioning that the SRD mods have started removing what they consider "shit posts" which basically amounts to them removing comments that sound too much like something SRS/circlebroke would say. For example they don't remove comments complaining about SJWs but they will remove anything referencing "ethics in (insert something here)".

Yeah, it's been my favorite sub for about five months. Until yesterday I had never seen upvoted "SJW" comments. Hopefully this will all end Monday when school starts

Regarding this, I don't think stuff like this will end just because school starts. Reddit is pretty easy to access with and without a computer, and people nowadays just use their phones in class or whatever, so there is that.

Honestly though, a better subreddit for serious discussion on reddit circlejerks is /r/openbroke once summerbroke ends, because /r/SubredditDrama wasn't intended to be a discussion on that or an SRS-style sub.

SRD (and all of reddit) are mostly liberals, don't ever expect them to be allies. They'll abandon social justice the first time it's convenient for them to do so.

Can they really abandon something they never espoused anyways? It's a platform for laughing at people on the internet, not a self proclaimed political community.

can you explain what you mean and why it is you think people would abandon social justice when it's convenient
