Krita Desktop

Version 2.9 was released Thursday, February 26th, 2015. See below on where to download it. Head to the release notes page if you are interested in seeing what is new. We also make development builds for Windows and OSX available from http://files.kde.org/krita

The current stable release of Krita for Windows is 2.9.6.1. The downloads are provided by KDE. Click on the link to get the portable zip-file version of Krita instead of the MSI installer. Krita requires Windows Vista or newer.

INTEL GRAPHICS CARD USERS: IF YOU SEE A BLACK OR BLANK WINDOW: UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS !

If the download says it is a MAN file, try a different web browser like Firefox or Chrome or rename the file extension to .msi!

Linux distributions package the currently stable version of Linux when they release a new version. Some distributions provide backports repositories which offer the latest stable version of Krita.

Ubuntu / Linux Mint

Use the following PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports 
sudo apt-get update 
sudo apt-get install krita

Note: Previous versions of Krita MUST be uninstalled.

Debian

The latest version of Krita available in Debian is 2.6. Jessie (stable) has 2.8.5+dfsg-1+b2.

OpenSUSE

Visit KDE_repositories to find which repository fits your needs.

Fedora

Fedora packages are available in the stable repository for Fedora 20 and 21 with the name 'calligra-krita'.

Gentoo

The e-build for Calligra Suite is in the portage tree as: app-office/calligra-2.7.00. You can use this to install Krita as well; there might be newer versions as well.

Chakra

Krita is part of the Calligra Suite, avaliable in the Chakra official repositories. To install Krita simply run this command:

sudo pacman -S calligra-krita

Arch

Arch Linux provides Calligra packages in the Extra repository.

FreeBSD

Packages are available in area51.

Mac OSX is very experimental right now and unstable. You can download the latest binary if you want. It has only been reported to work with Mac OSX 10.9.
