I think this is being misconstrued. A friend of mine's younger brother recently came out as trans. He is too young to take hormones or anything, so technically he hasn't medically transitioned at all. But he makes himself look masculine, changed his name and identifies as male. He has transitioned, in a social sense. But the biological stuff comes later.

I'm currently in the limbo of transitioning but not being able to medically transition. It isn't a matter of one surgery either, there's hormones, multiple surgeries involved and (mainly MtFs) hair removal and other things. Usually there's a separation between socially transitioning and medically transitioning. Also many FtM's choose not to have bottom surgery because it's not really advanced enough, I'm not the person to ask about MtF medical stuff though.

And of course not all transpeople choose to have the op. These shouldn't be lumped in with the special snowflakes because most of them actually WANT to transition but don't feel comfortable with the idea of surgery.

I believe that sleepybrains is referring to the sibling as a brother based on their gender identity, not the sibling's sex. As in that the brother was previously a sister.

I actually kinda agree with this person. I have a few trans friends, and they're all in different steps of the transition process. Some are living as the opposite gender to see if it helps. Some are on HRT. One's already had top surgery, and another has completed bottom surgery.

It's a continuum, and you can take it as far as you like. But it starts with "asserting agency over our own gender."

If you've completed your transition, I imagine you've taken it as far as you care to go.

There is a social aspect to all medical conditions. Addictions. Borderline personality disorder. Alzheimers. Toenail fungus (I suppose).
