継父にレイプされた10歳少女の中絶禁止は「正しい」　共和党の大統領候補マイク・ハッカビー氏

2016年に行われるアメリカ大統領選挙で、元アーカンソー州知事で共和党の大統領候補のなかでも最もマイク・ハッカビー氏が、10歳のレイプ被害者の人工妊娠中絶を認めなかった南米の国パラグアイ政府の決定は正しかったと、8月16日のインタビューで明らかにした。

CNNの「ステート・オブ・ザ・ユニオン」に出演した中でハッカビー氏は、現在11歳で、継父からレイプされて先週出産したパラグアイの少女に、政府が中絶を許可しなかったことで、第二の悲劇が防がれたと主張した。

「勘違いしないでください。10歳の少女が強姦されることは恐ろしいことです。しかし、無実の子供の命を奪うことで、問題は解決するのでしょうか？」と彼は問いかけた。そして後にこう付け加えた。「恐ろしい出来事について考える時、私はそこに存在する可能性についても考えます。私はただ、我々が人の命を何となく軽視してしまったと思いたくないのです... さらに別の命を奪うことで、悲劇を重ねるのはやめようということです」

アメリカのオピニオンブログサイト「シンク・プログレス」によると、パラグアイの法律では「母親の生命を救うのに必要とみなされる非常に稀な場合」にのみ中絶を認めている。

ハッカビー氏は、中絶に断固として反対する立場をとってきており、7月には、女性が中絶手術を止めるためには、、連邦軍を動員することも排除しない姿勢を示した。彼は小規模な保守派の法学者グループと共同歩調をとっており、彼らは、1973年に最高裁が中絶は合法との決定を出しているにも関わらず、憲法は大統領に対し中絶を禁止させる権限を与えていると考えている。

マイク・ハッカビー氏は、バプテスト教会で牧師を務め、1996年アーカンソー州知事に就任した。2008年大統領選に出馬したが、ジョン・マケイン上院議員に敗れて指名を逃した。人工妊娠中絶、同性婚に反対する共和党のなかでも最保守派として知られる。


