You got two salt, Marple and coast! And you are even asking for more?

ADD: you can move your settler to the eastern hill and settle there

[–]WhyAmIMrPinkJust f*ckin' watch me! 146 points147 points  (14 children)

And two deer and a sheep. OP is greedy as fuck.

The Venetians have always tightfisted.

[–]Pidgey_OP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[–]SultanOfSantosIf it ain't Dutch, it ain't much. 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some food and production tiles would be nice too.

[–]r2devounstoppable cultural warmachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boy is he salty

[–]dontnormally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marple

teehee

[–]balanceofpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But are those resources enough to compensate for all that tundra and ice? isn't there a risk of having a stunted capital that can't grow to fruition because of those tiles?

[–]SViceDines in Hell 55 points56 points  (2 children)

The Game confused your civ with Sweden, It seems.

[–]Grandpocalypse 5 points6 points  (1 child)

More like the Hansa.

[–]XxLokixX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking Russia

[–]jamesabeChu-Ko-Nu Apocalypse 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This thread is the exact opposite of no Petra 0/10

[–]oblisk 23 points24 points  (3 children)

Save? I'd be interested in seeing how this plays out.

[–]bandrami[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Give me a sec... I did save it, and I'll put it up on civsaves

[–]CS2603isHard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have a turn 0 autosave too.

[–]Debiased 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP did not deliver... East coast confirmed! /s

[–]avieor1 18 points19 points  (6 children)

I dare you to play this save... With raging barbarians

[–]bandrami[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Well I can't add raging to the save, but I am interested in trying this save.

[–]avieor1 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I think you can if you edit the save file. If you send the file to me I will add raging barbarians in for you if you want.

[–]James_Locke 17 points18 points  (3 children)

And a keylogger pls

[–]avieor1 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Ah here! If I could do that to a Civ 5 save file and not bork the game more than it already is I would be proud of myself.

[–]James_Locke 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Im sure you could do it, you can make them pretty simple. The real challenge would be getting the data back I think.

[–]avieor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your right there. But from my experience with Civ, it is very easy to screw it up. I've done far less to crash my games.

[–]Meltdown267Ney, Chief Pocatello! 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nice coastal start you got there. Beautiful, plus you only got like 4 snow tiles. Not too shabby, I bet you'll be first place in no time with all the salt you have (including yours, OP). Don't forget that nice mountain for the observatory, the desert hill for petra and the river next to Venice on turn 0.

Share the save OP I must play this work of art - since we know you won't #GreedyAsFuck

[–]G00BY_PLS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You won't ride it out. No balls.

[–]NebulaShadow 23 points24 points  (1 child)

TIL OP is a raging dickwad.

[–]tomjim04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's your coastal bias. Have fun using caravans.

[–]PossibilityZero 4 points5 points  (2 children)

1st thing, move your warrior to the patch of forest NE of your settler to get a better view. There might be coast within 2 or 3 moves. Maybe follow the river.

[–]L0ngp1nk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There will be coast all right, coast blocked off on both sides by ice!

[–]windyisle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ignore the bird. Follow the river!"

[–]beeblez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still winable. Venice is OP. Coast helps but is in no way required. Settle on river and you're off to the races.

[–]fakeuserisrealMINE EYES HAVE SEEN THE COMING OF THE GLORY OF THE LORD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bruh, caravans are trade routes too.

[–]ugubriat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Salt 10/10 would settle

[–]ReallyBadAtSpelling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your first through forty-fifth problems are that you're playing as Venice.

Your 46th problem is the location.

[–]Eldis 4 points5 points  (12 children)

Wtf? This is pretty good. Just move two tiles east on top of the salt and you have river, deer and sheep on top of the two salts. You miss one mine, but that's not a big loss in any way.

[–]seemedlikeagoodplan 12 points13 points  (11 children)

The problem is that it looks like there will be very few growth tiles. There are 6 or 7 pretty nice tiles and the rest are crap. The two salt tiles will have 3 food with mines, and the deer will have 3 food with a granary (or 4 with Goddess of the Hunt, but that seems unlikely). Beyond that, it'll be Civil Service before there are any 3 food tiles, and you'll never get any 4 food tiles. Also there's no coast. Venice's shtick is getting one huge city with a bunch of trade routes, preferably ocean trade routes, to make lots of money. But here there is very little in the way of gold from the terrain. Marble and 2 salts... that's it. And very little food and production.

[–]nokei 5 points6 points  (10 children)

Isn't the north end of that river ocean?

[–]seemedlikeagoodplan 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Looks like it might be, actually. But tundra + coast often means an icebound sea.

[–]nokei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sad truth, most of the games I've played Venice as in this situation I would at best get one coastal city state in my section of the ice blockade.

[–]freeblowjobiffound13 points 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It might be the southern toundra, with luck.

[–]legacy_of_fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect he's far north given the shape of the cloud cover on the north edge of the map (looks very "hard") versus to the south.

I dunno. It seemed to be a bit of a lost cause so I didn't ask. But if the save gets posted i'll load it and have a look around out of curiosity.

[–]SnipeCity73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually laughed when the imgur loaded

[–]WeaselSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it.

[–]Lunatic49Chairman Mao is our savior and he will BURN YOU ALL! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you didn't start in the snow.

[–]mattan59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rip

[–]Drak_is_Right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty, 3 spaces away could found a city on the river and only cost you a single turn. That would net you a city that was maybe 3/10 or 4/10

[–]DaBear405 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why is there sheep and foxes in a tundra?

[–]dugrik2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What map is that? You should have started on a coast if one existed.

I was tired of getting stuck in Siberia every time I played the Earth map. Chose Venice to avoid this. Got put in Siberia on the Arctic coast. Two whole hexes of icelocked ocean.

[–]Knightfall2The whole world must learn of our peaceful ways... By Force! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]LeptonVerde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs more Atilla

[–]t17389zMongolian Writers: They have their prose and Khans. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got a start in the bottom right corner of a huge, non-scrolling map, on a continent with only sparse city states.
And no-one colonized it.
And because I was Venice with all of 3 trade routes, and all I had were city states around me, what little trade routes I had kept getting plundered by barbs.

[–]RunsWithRaptors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how people play without resource markers

[–]Fummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move your settler east.

[–]Gifos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey at least you know right away. I got a start as Venice by a northern coast. Fine, right?

Few dozen turns of exploration later I find that the land takes a U-shape with me at the bottom and ice in the north blocking off access to the oceans. No other coastal cities by that body of water.

[–]EnigmaticChemistNothing like a Militia Winning a Naval Battle, wait huh? -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Helping some friends who are new to the game and insisted on playing on settler. I took venice, thinking at least i can be back up if needed and control the economy.

I am not able to trade with any Civs, they are all too far away. The city states that we are near are poor as hell. And then i remembered why Venice on settler is not a good idea, the other Civs AIs are well retarded and therefore broke as hell so no luxury trading is going to happen for GPT.

I am just lucky i am good at tall and settler is a joke.
