Feminism happened in 3 main waves:

First Wave Feminism happened from roughly 1850-1950, it focused on legal rights: The right to vote, own property etc. Before this time, women were second class citizens, it was extremely difficult for them to go and live by themselves, they were either 'kept' by a man, or by their parents (In the hopes to marry her off).

Second Wave Feminism peaked in roughly 1957-1990, it focused more on women as actual equals rather than 'legal' equals. Women being able to express their sexuality, being an equal partner in a relationship/marriage, equal opportunity in the workplace (Before this point lots of jobs were considered inappropriate for a woman). It also brought up issues like domestic violence and marital rape, which were actually rather socially acceptable at the time.

I think we can all agree that thus far, none of this is 'bullshit', equal rights is what it all comes down to.

Third wave Feminism is an absolute clusterfuck of personal ideals. It's very little about 'equality'. It's not really even about fighting for all women and it's usually just focused on the individual. Men are the enemy, other women are the enemy, feminists that don't hold your exact worldview are the enemy. It's extremely hate filled, completely ineffective and a waste of time.

It's essentially the female equivalent of the MRM/MRA. A huge circlejerk echo chamber that gets nothing done other than getting extremely angry.

Of course, Second wave feminists still exist, mainly focusing on actual issues like the issues they fought for previously but in developing countries where women are still oppressed. Or, they exist as egalitarians: fighting for the equality of everyone, not trying to make 'some more equal than others'.
