How many times have I been on a road trip where a guy friend as pissed in a bottle?

Just cause you can piss in a bottle in a car with other people, does not mean you should.

I don't think I've ever pissed in a bottle.

I got curious once and did it just to try. The bottle overflowed, and I haven't done it since.

See I totally get that, and further, I feel in the situation where you're all fuck I gotta piss but can only do it in a bottle; You've probably been holding it for a while, it's not gonna be easy to stop, and you're gonna need a big bottle.

*gets 1.5L soda bottle

It's my understanding that the female prostate is called the Skene's Gland and, while extremely rare, it is possible.

On mobile, before I zoomed, I thought the URL at the bottom was "GetRidOfWomen.com".

That would fix their heart disease...

I'm just glad they used capital letters. goredforwomen is a whole different organization.

Ah... It's actually getridofwomen.ORG

That's right, not-for-profit. We're more about getting the information out there rather than profit

That URL makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

I think I'd be confused more than upset if my fiancée caught testicular cancer

"We can do anything men can do"

Except have a heart attack that actually has the symptoms of a heart attack.

Wait a second, women don't have typical symptoms of a heart attack? I'm genuinely asking, I've never heard that before

Yeah, the common symptoms of heart attacks in women are really stupid things like jaw pain and back pain and shoulder pain, basically pain everywhere except for the chest.

The symptoms are so stupid that some women won't even know they ever had a heart attack until several months later when they see a doctor for something unrelated.

What the hell I'm surprised I've never even heard of this! So if a woman is having a fatal heart attack, she would not know unless she were looking specifically for jaw/back/shoulder pain?

Well, and the death.

"Talk to your doctor if you've experienced prolonged death, it could be a sign of something serious."

It's called referred pain, and the problem is back pain is pretty common in the at risk demographic, so it's a horrible indicator. Imagine, by analogy, if everytime you had lower abdominal pain you now had to get a cardiac work up

[–]Ryvan 0

They do also get chest pain (apparently it might feel more like tightness) and shortness of breath but we do also get weird symptoms too like leg pain and jaw pain.

Fatal. Fatality. Google those

My mom had two heart attacks without knowing it.

She went to the doctor for neck pain...

I am CPR certified and I never learned this. So weird

Women's symptoms are very different than men's, and a lot of the time asymptomatic.

Same goes with fatal heart attacks? Like if I were to have a heart attack I would probably have chest and arm pain, and would immediately call 911. But if a woman were suffering from a fatal heart attack she may have no idea?

Correct, she could mistake it for cramps or mild heart burn.

And then just die without have symptoms? That's insane.

My grandma went to the hospital for back pain and they didn't run any tests for a heart attack at all, just gave her pain meds for her back, needless to say it didn't end well. Given her age, they should have checked for that regardless.

Well, the fact that the common male presentation (chest pressure, tingling down left arm) is what we consider the "default" symptoms of a heart attack is exactly the problem that the billboard is trying to address. We shouldn't think of a man's typical symptoms as "typical heart attack", rather we should be equally as aware of the presenting signs in both genders.

Yeah but women present with a more complicated set of symptoms, many times without red flags because their symptoms over Lao with benign symptoms. Which is to say the problem is a little from column A and little from column B.

That would make a lot of sense. But campaigns "Women if you have back pain, or jaw pain, or bad cramps, or leg pain, you might be having a heart attack - call 911!" would do far more harm than good. "Am I having a heart attack doctor?!" "No you slept on your back wrong, here's some tylenol"

This might have something to do with women being underrepresented in coal mines.

That escalated quickly...

My friend and I saw this and began to discuss how poorly designed it was because it basically trivializes the main issue (serious health problems) with a different message. What it's really taking about is forgotten, since all you can remember is "women can do whatever men can do", and barely remember there was something more important being said. Also the fact that the important message is so small and easily overlooked on a bulletin board while driving by, I wouldn't blame you for missing the point.

Graphic designers are boring people...

I saw this driving through Michigan and am also a boring graphic designer. I was actually yelling. Out loud. It was sad.

But it's SO AWFUL.

They made a billboard. You and your friend discussed it. You even took time to post about it. It worked, boring or not.

I get what you're saying, but that would really only be a metric of success if they were talking about heart disease, not the billboards failure at basic aspects of design.

Arguably.

I remember the bulletin board, sure. That wins some points. But I honestly couldn't remember the point after seeing it, which is significant (seeing this didn't even trigger anything until I actually looked at it). The case would be different if I was saying "That ad on women's heart disease had terrible hierarchy" since I at least remember the intent.

But if I walk away thinking "That ad's design was terrible, and I don't even know what it's for!" Then you have done a terrible job.

You can be bad and deliver the message, be memorable for it (think those 3 AM commercials for furniture stores or taxidermy or what have you).

But here, they were didn't even have the "so bad it's good" charm. Especially for a roadside ad that needs to deliver it's message clearly.

"women can do whatever men can do"

And that bit isn't even true. Testosterone sees to that. Try putting a woman in male sports for example....

Men can, and do, die of breast cancer, what's your point?

Only a medical student at the moment, but it's probably alluding to the fact that women are significantly underdiagnosed for cardiovascular disease. This is in part because people (doctors included) associate cardiovascular disease more with men and also because women are more likely to have different presenting signs when they suffer from such events. The standard "chest pressure + tingling that radiates down the left arm" signs of heart attack do not apply to women as easily.

In ACLS class, we were taught that men used to be far more likely to have cardiac issues but now the number of women have increased enough that they're nearly equal statistically. I can't help but think that's what the billboard is addressing.

I think the point is, be aware of your heart heath. Heart health is mostly directed towards men, just like breast cancer is mostly directed towards women. Either of those can happen to both sexes.

Postmenopausal women are at a huge risk of carious cardiovascular maladies.

To bring attention to the issue in a semi silly way?

Is that Felicia day?

Now they're taking heart attacks from us too? God damn.

That chick can give me a stroke any time.

Except pee standing up... yeah!

I was at the occupational health clinic getting my work physical done and I kept seeing stickers of a red dress on everything. Phones, windows, ID holders, coffee cups like everything. Finely I ask a lab technician with the sticker on her ID holder, "What's the deal with all the red dress stickers." She replies "Oh, we are raising awareness about the drastic change in women's heart disease!" she offers a few statistics. We part ways. On my way home I was thinking about it. -Why would it just start going up? And I wondered -Could it be there is more women doing stereotypically/historically man things? Now they are suffering stereotypically/historically man problems? Or maybe it's gluten.

Also incase you were wondering, it is now documented that I meet the stringent physical requirements to operate a forklift or man-lift.

Bet I can get testicular cancer before you feminists!

That's it, I'm unsubbing from /r/funny.

Like, why make this a gender issue at all, why not "People, get your heart checked!"? Groan.

equality hitting home

A woman still can't get prostate cancer

And you still get paid less. Sucks to be you.

Like wearing a welding jacket with a metal zipper that will melt together so it can't unzip...

Yeah that does sound like something stupid a guy would do.

Welder here, As a general rule- If you melt your zipper you are doing it wrong.

Someone should photoshop out the heart disease and stroke part

There is a commercial on my local sports radio that said something along the lines of, "More women die of heart disease than men." Like, why is that a competition?

I love when my wife and I stimulate each others prostates.

[–]Hythy 4

You do realise that women do have prostates, right?
