I have recently been granted ownership of /r/bestoflegaladvice. I'd like to see this as a place for us to post our best threads and comments. Wonderful legal analysis? Post it! Brutal dissection of a poor argument? Post it! Excellent use of a rebound insult? Post it!

The rules of /r/bestoflegaladvice will be necessarily looser than those here - so post and discuss away!

There are just a few rules to keep brigading to a minimum. If you see any particularly awful legal advice, analysis, etc. it can go there. It doesn't have to be stuff from this sub, it can be from anywhere.

Their mods are ridiculous there. Every time I submit something there's always something wrong, however minuscule, and it gets deleted. That's why Ey never have any new content, the mod(s) take it down.

I submitted an amazing thread once where an actual police officer on Reddit was giving people horribly wrong legal advice on the Castle Doctrine. It was a goldmine. But they deleted my submission because I was still involved in the thread. Well yeah, I was in it before I submitted it, do I have to just stop after that?

I think it did get worse. If I remember correctly, the neighbors were parking their car in front of their gate and the sheriff was trying to tell them that they had to let the idiot neighbor use their road. I don't we've had an update since then.

Didn't the sheriff argue that the gate meant he had to let the neighbor use it but the other road (that everyone decided was the road he should use) had a fence so that was the determining factor as to which road the dork owner should use.

I say make their gate a toll gate and charge per entry/exit.

But IANAL, so there may be lots of unknown problems with this idea.

I doubt we'll see an update until it's all sorted out. The chap appeared to have an on the ball lawyer and he said at some point in the second update that he wouldn't update until the issue was resolved.

Can we get some labels for best of? Once in a blue moon best of is going to be "holy shit this is actually a text book case of entrapment and OP should not be found guilty" , while the rest of the time it's "let's laugh at op" or "let us bask in the snark of glory", we should have flair and be able to sort by that

I think the issue of people posting directly on the sub is going to start growing. All they are see is "best of" and thinking my question is definitely the best or something. They are certainly not reading anything before posting, can you set it so posts have to be approved?

I'm not aware of any way to enforce that rule(other than really aggressive moderation which I'm not a huge fan of). But it's a good guideline, I'll add it when I get around to making guidelines.

I would say some of the yellow stars need to agree that it qualifies for bestof. I would judge it based on
1.) Legal merit- like that honest to goodness case of entrapment. Or it's an interesting non hypothetical legal situation
2.) Hilariousness of response - that is whether poster make funny and insightfull replies, or the OP starts getting obnoxious in truly hilarious ways
3.) Shock value - I mean, honestly that is what has gotten some of the stuff on the best of posts cough licking-nine-year-olds cough
4.) Zapopa - nuff said

I was given an open container ticket in NYC a few months back. I was visiting US on a tourist visa and had to leave the next day. Hence, haven't been able to send back the pink ticket with the $25 fine that was imposed. It was supposed to be sent within 10 days. What do I do now? Can I still ask someone to mail with the fine? Is there any penalty? Can I be arrested next time I travel to the U.S.?

What should I do about a violent father? I'm a sixteen year old boy with a brother and sister please give me a solution on how to handle this, today my mom found some text from some woman on my dad's phone (it said pick me up and stuff) and she called woman without asking my dad. Later on my dad started fighting with my because she called the woman without his permission, then the fighting turned into a physical fight. My dad was pulling my mom's hair and punching her, I stood there unable to do anything while my legs were shaking, I gathered up my courage and somehow pulled my mom out of there..Again later on my dad took the iron(the one that is used to iron clothes) tried to smash the television then my mom jumped in front of him and tried to stop him, my dad even threatened that he'll hit her with the iron again I stood there as my brother and sister both started crying unable to do anything at all. I've told my mom to divorce him countless yes but she keeps saying that people will laugh at her if she has no husband and there is this other problem, we're sri Lankans and we live in Kuwait so in order to get the family visa here you must have a salary more than 250 Kwd ($829) and my dad is the only one that gets more than that so he is our sponsor which means he can send us back to sri Lanka anytime he wants to. Please tell me what I should do?

I was recently staying at a resort and upon checking in, I went to their services area. They ask if I would b willing to tour the resort for 2 hours to see if I would like to invest and become an timeshare owner. She said In return I would receive cash and free tickets to a amusement park for my time. My daughter was with me, I told she could swim while I take your. The lady asked where my wife was? I told hero was a single father. She immediately responded I'm sorry you don't qualify the program is only for couples or single mothers. That don't offer it to single fathers. I felt very offended since my daughter hasn't been with her since she was two.
