It bothers me that they can't seem to seperate somebody saying "I personally find this attractive" and "if you don't do this you are disgusting and I don't respect you". I personally prefer girls who shave their legs. This doesn't mean I think those who don't are gross or think everyone should be required to it just means I find it super sexy when a girl has smooth legs.

It bothers me that they can't seem to seperate somebody saying "I personally find this attractive" and "if you don't do this you are disgusting and I don't respect you".

That would be because the latter is how they feel themselves. They can't wrap their heads around other people not seeing the world in black and white.

I don't give a shit if my girl shaves her legs but I get in trouble if I shave my beard because it's prickly. Fucking double standards. /s

I don't have to shave my legs, but my girl does when she wears skirts or shorts outside etc. Just because it's "prettier" more "accepted". Fuck everyone let's just have everyone wear beige pants and only beige pants.

They probably do, but in their eyes that stuff doesn't apply to men.

You have to admit though, girls who don't shave their arm pits are harassed by society pretty openly. Or at least the girls I knew who had arm pit hair were.

Source: I am a hippy.

Well yeah but each gender has its physical norms that they usually stick to or else they get looked down upon. Not that I agree with it, but every time I've ever been with a girl and we see a man wear a ponytail, they immediately start bashing it because "it just looks weird, guys don't do that." I like to be open-minded, but it's not like beauty standards are attached only to women.

At the hippie camps I have frequented, neither pony tails on men or girls having arm pit hair is appropriate reason to make fun of someone.

Girls are often sexist too. In fact, when my female friend was made fun of for having arm pit hair, it was the girls who were often the cruelest.

That doesn't excuse sexism? Or does it? You tell me.

Alright, but you are choosing an alternative lifestyle, and bear with me here, and that opens you up to questions at best, ridicule at worst. The most alternative thing about me is a tattoo i got in a fairly normal place that is highly concealable, and yet every time it ends up visible i get questions. "What kind of job do you think you'll be able to get with that?" Sort of questions. Even though tattoos are starting to be accepted, and nothing on me is obscene in anyway it still gets these questions. Your entire lifestyle gets that same sort of attitude, and like my tattoo, it's a choice being made. That isn't sexism, it's a society that doesn't really like "alternative"

Oh no I definitely know what you're saying. It goes both ways. I was just saying that gender norms apply negatively (and positively) to both genders. I've heard a lot about how women are pressured by the media to be unrealistically beautiful (i.e. Barbie), but I don't hear much from that crowd about the unrealistic expectations that media symbols like G.I. Joe impart on boys. Nothing excuses sexism because that would take away from the truth that these things affect men and women relatively equally.

Also not sure why you were downvoted, it might be a bit simplistic, but it is an honest observation that I think we can all agree on.

Agree with all you're saying. I find it frustrating that the movement supposedly opposite of sexism is called feminism. It should probably be called something else? I don't know.

That's probably my biggest problem with all this "sexism".
Towards girls it's horrible and opression, "accept girls for who they are!!", but towards guys it's alright because "they're disgusting otherwise" if they don't live up to standards.

Feminists and SJWs like to think of themselves as fighting gender norms but the only gender norms they openly fight are women's gender norms and the only way they fight against them is to make women's lives easier.

No, they only fight against negative womens' gender norms, like not being expected to work. They openly fight for positive womens' gender norms, like expecting special treatment from men.

Or in SJW words: towards guys it's alright because "it's patriarchy backfiring". Because, you know, it's not like members of both genders are extremely picky when it comes to ideal standards of beauty. Nope, women are perfect! It's toxic masculinity!

[–]TacticusThrowawayaka SYABM 18

Correction, that's them they saying men's problems are less important, as if gender roles never, ever directly screw over men. It's just side effects of oppressing women, they say, even when men have it worse, such as male rape and abuse victims. Even "Toxic Masculinity" rarely admits men have actual disadvantages compared to women in any areas.

What many of them seem to think is that if we fix women's problems, men's problems will magically be fixed too, despite the fact that it hasn't worked so far.

I disagree, I believe a large amount of them know it won't fix men's issues but care more that it will fix their issues, and in extreme cases they like that it negatively effects men.

[–]TacticusThrowawayaka SYABM 1

Could it be that inherently and biologically speaking, women's greatest power lies in their beauty, (for better or worse, among their other covert feminine powers), and they know this whether they delude themselves otherwise, and that is why 9000% of the beauty/fashion/makeup interest makes all their money off of them? And thus, they spend so much time on their looks and vanity and preening and grooming?

edit: 9000% is a bit too high. I think it's something of the majority of fashion is of course for women, and something like 85% of the personal care and makeup market is all women.

I get annoyed by the way they treat image issues as a female thing. Considering I had self-image issues before I was even a teenager and see other guys with them, they're blatantly off with their narratives and self-absorption. I get on with it, and the SJW kind of feminist wants to complain and demonize all men. ffs

Directly on topic: the women I work with are way more critical of each other's makeup (or lack thereof) than any guy.

[–]pineyfusionDiplomatic to a fault

I can't remember the last time I heard a guy say anything negative about a girl. None of my buddies talk shit about people, let alone other girls. My female friends, however, have no issues with talking shit about girls they've never met. And girls they know but aren't friends with. Hell, they'll talk shit about their female friends too.

[–]Anaron 0

Lol, wow. That's pretty funny. I think some women are living up to the bitchy gossip-hungry and passive-aggressive stereotype. At least most of the ones I've worked with. Shit talking doesn't sit well with me and often times, calling someone out just paints a target on my back.

[–]My-Name-Is-No-Onekin-jazz, able-cistic, potato-friendly, transfemesist arthropod 1

Yeah. Socially speaking, there is not much you can do, and nothing to win. I think it's better to be forward and honest, and call people out, and rock the boat, but know that you are going to piss a lot of people off. Or, sure, stick to the narrative - watch your fucking mouth on every subject, especially on men and women, feminism is for sex equality (misleading at best, an outright lie at worst), be PC, and men and women are equal and the same. Yep, no evolutionary, cognitive, biological, or social differences there at all. Women and men are equal, and treated equally, that's why women work all the dangerous and dirty jobs, why they give their seats to men and children on life boats, why hostage negotiators always ask to let the women and children go free, it is why historically speaking women have done all the heaviest labor, hardest jobs, been meat for the war machine, and it is also why all those women dove on their boyfriends to protect them during the colorado theatre shooting, and the one that didn't mindlessly follow the narrative got a lot of shit for not protecting her boyfriend, and it is why so many men are still pushing for more entitlements, special treatment, and insisting that women are so shit-lordy and evil and disgusting for just being born as that biological sex and all the characteristics that go along with it, ad nauseum :D

[–]Anaron 0

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I hear you. It's unfortunate because the truth is, there are differences. But those differences doesn't mean we have to treat each other differently. Things would be a lot better with mutual respect and understanding. Instead, people get butthurt and perceive a simple fact as social combat like men's higher upper body strength or women being easily emotionally aroused because of a slight difference in brain structure.

I'm glad I don't know any women that hate men or any men that hate women.. as far as I'm aware.

[–]RavenscroftRavenPreferred Pronouns: I/me/my

None of my buddies talk shit about people, let alone other girls.

Men, from my view, will compliment everyone readily, but only shit-talk people they know personally and directly to them, or intending them to know it. Women seem to more readily criticize openly, and reserve compliments for a higher standard.

In example, a man will poke fun of his buddy if he gutterballs while they're bowling, but he won't comment if someone four lanes over seems to be having trouble, they don't matter to him. However, if someone lands a lander on a speeding comet, a man will go "that's impressive, what do they plan on getting from this?". Meanwhile, a woman won't badmouth her friend directly do her if she's having a hard time, she'll wait until the back is turned, and how that person four lanes over is doing is actually apparently somewhat important. And if someone lands a lander on a speeding comet, her first comment will be "yuh huh and was he wearing anything fashionable? He wasn't? Oh mah gawd.".

Seriously, that Dr Taylor's Shirt thing was ridiculous and really reinforced some negative stereotypes.

I'd make a post in /r/TiADiscussion about this but I don't want the mods to throw a bitchfit at me because I don't have detailed statistics with a 95% confidence interval, a several thousand sample size and peer reviews of my work detailing that TiA has some posts that are hypocritical.

I don't think TiA is a place for introspection and deep thought. It's a place to laugh at people who have different thoughts that seem patently ridiculous to you.

That said, if it means so much to you, just say so, and I'll find a tumblr post of a woman fawning over a tall, handsome man, being supported by tumblr, and a tumblr post hating on a man for expressing interest in women's aesthetical values, both seriously made, with both having serious replies. I think it's in the realm of the possible for me to do so. I bet I could even find an allcaps version of the rage one, to match OP, if you really care. Anything for the sun and moon, after all.

[–]Kira-the-CatFeline Oppressor-kin 20

This isn't exactly a strawman. A lot of women will openly admit that their ideal man is someone six foot something with perfectly sculpted abs and amazing looks. And a lot of those same women will throw a hissy fit if a guy so much as says he has a preference for less body hair. Clearly not all women, but yes there are some that aren't on Tumblr that do this.

It is exactly a straw man. It being a fallacy doesn't make the underlying point wrong, it just makes the argument weaker. The point is that this is a joke, not a debate or a thesis. The standards can be lowered.

It is a straw man because there are no sources. You are correct because I have read these posts that literally lambast guys that say they prefer a woman that takes care of herself physically, then the next note is that same person saying that a woman should expect men to be taller than six feet, with solid muscle tone, and a job that allows her to never work and still live extremely comfortably. But without any references to these many posts or screenshots with these quotes, this is a straw man.

[–]Kira-the-CatFeline Oppressor-kin 1

That's why I said isn't exactly one. True there are no sources but its still based in fact. Which makes it partly a strawman but not a full one. Its the halfbreed child of a good argument and a strawman. Now if absolutely none of this were true then yeah, full on strawman.

But feminism has never been about equality. With every major success won in the west, the layers have been fully peeled back revealing the rampant sexism, hatred, entitlement, and jealousy at the rotten core of it that has been there from the start. Also, a lot of racism too, though they changed that in the second wave to work in their favor. The point is, it has never been about equality for the sexes, though "equality feminists" like CHS still won't admit it, but at least she is a gateway drug to truth to the bottom of such a shitty movement.
