Wow. Why are white people so bad at understanding social movements?

Because they don't want to.

Because the don't have to.

Because it challenges their privilege.

It's so hard for me to understand how the hell white people are so empty and heartless that they see talk of racism and don't just get defensive but are outraged and hideously rude about it.

It's more like false righteous indignation and too much idiotic internet affirmation than privilege at that point. The downvotes are all people at least partially knowledgeable about modern racial inequality and the upvotes are all fucking kids who need to go indignantly play Xbox in the middle of the street so they can get hit by a bus.

[–]American-Negrospooky jhost witch 26

Because social movements are generally minorities calling them out on the system that was built to place white straight men above everyone else. They don't want to give up their privileged status.

The gay rights movement called them out when they were arresting people for being gay. White tears were shed.

The civil right movement called them out when they were passing laws to have black people legally subjugated. White tears were shed.

The feminist movement called them out when women were being treated as second class and subject to legal discrimination. White tears were shed.

The immigration reform movement called them out on racist and POC hating policies, as well as racial profiling. White tears were shed.

The only thing they can empathize with is simply the white tears and not the humanity and concerns of minorities.

Black people being killed by police? Pfff, no big deal. What about black on black crime? Why don't they stop being criminals?

White people called out by black people? Racism! Oppression! SJWs!

Also the prison system essentially raising kids to become the next generation of prisoners. There's white ones too, geez!

[–]BZenMojoಠ_ூ... indeed.

Because they're winning?

This seems like such a ridiculous way to silence a cause. Tell them they've become the thing they're fighting against. Oh no, BLM, you're the real racists. Feminists, you're the ultimate sexists.

You know what, I know it's lazy but:

Why don't white leaders disrupt all the white killers in the white community? Oh that's right... it takes a lot less effort to blame black people for all your problems.

That's not fair. They also blame brown people and gays.

[–]American-Negrospooky jhost witch 25

This is true.

They blame gay pople for the weather. I've also seen a woman blame gays for birds falling out the sky.

I've also seen them try blaming the global recession on black and brown people, which is worthy of every side eye in every Poc's face.

Also the government, and feminists, and all kinds of things.

it takes a lot less effort to blame white people for all your problems

But that's not what BLM is about at all. Why is this the token dismissal to any progressive movement?

Because they fear the effort of taking responsibility and taking steps to rectify the situation. Also a segment of them, who is a larger segment than they'll ever admit, actively take pleasure in the subjugation of perceived outsiders. For reddit I think it's about a 40/60 mix between the former and the latter.

[–]BlackDahliaPartonTitus Misandronicus 20

Also, not-so-ironically, the consistent knee-jerk reaction of "it's so easy to blame the whites" to any call out of racism means it's actually quite a lot of effort to hold white people accountable.

Coming up with an elaborate strawman is a lot easier than actually addressing the specific arguments made by the BLM movement. It's the same reason they turn the concept of "white privilege" into "all white people have it easy."

Because if you can't argue against a statement, and don't want to admit to racism, it's easier to assume that the "other side" is fundamentally flawed. Scarecrow makes a good barrier for protecting "mah preevleej".

Because everything has to be about white people all the time

[–]Baryonyx_walkericuck of the walk 2

It's a deflection. Nothing more.

I don't know what the Bureau of Land Management has to do with that.

[–]American-Negrospooky jhost witch 39

Dogs and water cannons would have done the same thing and even probably stopped the racist BLM moment from starting altogether.

Yes, police brutality would've stopped a movement against police brutality.

[–]nuclearneo577The sword the smites MRAs

What is so racist about asking white people to stop killing so many black people exactly?

[–]TrogdorCronus27Andrew Ryan --> Ayn Rand, REW (Regrettably Eminent Wanker) 8

Jesus Christ. "DAE Zombie Bull Connor for President?"

[–]khantronSakaki is so cool

"Is Jim Clark a Bull Connor or a Laurie Pritchett?"

Nothing would've strengthened BLM more. Republican presidential candidates would be tripping over themselves to get an endorsement from BLM.

R/news is to the news what a pair of Chuck Taylors is to the news.

Classic, comfy , and stylish? I shall disagree.

Off-topic, but do you know of a good subreddit for news to subscribe to? I like a trickle of important news events showing up on my reddit feed so that I don't miss anything important without having to put up with the whims of the defaults.

"Conservative tribune: in defense of western civilization "

Logo is a picture of a guy in a three corner hat with a musket.

Nope, sure don't see any bias or editorializing going on here.

[–]shakhaDeath to Reddit, Long Live the New Brd

If children are killing each other, that is certainly an issue, but if pediatricians and parents and teachers are killing children, that is a bigger, more immediate issue. It may not be a perfect comparison, but why is it so difficult for these people to understand? Wait...oh, right, because they're fucking racist.

[–]RacecarlockSocial Justice Sharknado 6

Because we have higher standards for officers of the law than we do random black people on the street. Officers of the law are supposed to bring a situation to a peaceful end, not shoot at the first sign of blackness.

"Yeah, why focus on fighting deadly racism at the institutional level when you could far less effectively to try to stop individual killers? Clearly it's because you just want to hate white people"

"You're the real racists! Stop blaming white people!", yell the white brogressives, ignorant of the centuries of white supremacy, slavery, segregation and economic destitution imposed by white people.

[–]Baryonyx_walkericuck of the walk 2

It takes even less effort to deflect a discussion of systemic racism.

"Yes, because white people just love having to move out of the city after it is inevitability ruined when the blacks move in. Blacks ruin everything they touch. A one hour commute is better than living in a simian cesspool."
