You do realise the ping is the thing that determines mostly how fast a webpage loads right? If anything, your connection is better than his.

You could have a hundred MbPS, if the ping is shit it'll make even fast connections seem extremely slow lol.

Yeah but if you have let's say 120 Kb/S download and 10 ms ping, websites will take forever to load. Even if you have 1000 Mb/S and 1000ms ping, your websites will still load faster.

No.. Not exactly. If you have a 1000 ping it will take years longer than a connection with a 10ms ping.

Basically to my understanding it's something like this. Say for example a website takes 1MB to load. Ping determines how fast your connection can send and receive data to load the page. 100ms is 1 second. so the 120kbps connection with 10ms ping will take 1 second to load the page.. The 1000MbPS will take 10 seconds to send that 1MB. Or something like that.

Doesn't matter how fast your connection is if the ping is shit pages will load slow, you'll have lag in game servers and so on.

There is a obvious fault on your line/ go to the "test socket/ master socket" with your router and call your isp.

You need to check out Superfast-Cymru and be willing to spend some cash for fibre once the roll-out gets to you. Also virgin media is pretty great once you get around all that torrent site blocking crap.

I go to uni in Swansea, I guess the cities don't have it as bad, the current area I will be living in we can get pretty good speeds, although I will be living with 3 other gamers and all of us game/download a lot. I guess I'll see how ours turns out as well.

Fucking ireland man, if you live in a rural place (which is a lot of places) you're fucked. I live in Mullagh, eircom rolled out fibre to the town but only to one of the two cabinets, and guess which fucking cabinet I'm on... I use Net1, a wireless network provider, might be worth your while looking into wireless providers. They're all pretty shit with usage except for net1. I can do hundreds of GB per month no problem but Ripplecom like to cap really low and charge more on their tariff with less speed.

With that being said, having a symmetrical, clean, 8/8 constant, 12ms line is pretty great compared to the 5/0.1 60ms DSL that Eircom try to shovel. Seriously, if you live in the northwest or cork, you could be in luck with wireless providers.
