So this happened on Facebook and I need to go on a rant here.

First off, I would like to clarify that I understand that there is police brutality and racist cops out there in the world and that there have been many recent cases of it.

Okay. My father is a policeman. He is a GOOD policeman. In fact, we live in a very racist town and when he has to arrest a black guy for shoplifting and the old white men watching say “that’s right officer, not in our town” he tells them to shut the fuck up. So when people tell me “all cops are bad/racist/forceful” I am personally offended because they are talking about MY DAD. An amazing officer who hates giving out tickets and thinks marijuana should be legalized.

But that’s not my point.

My point is that yes, there have been a lot of recent events where police have been unnecessarily forceful and have killed just because the person was black. BUT. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY CRIMINALS USING THIS TO TRY TO GET AWAY WITH BREAKING THE LAW. They think that if they can rile up the officer enough, WHO IS JUST DOING HIS JOB, they can play it off like they were a victim of police brutality.

FOR THE RECORD: if a police officer asks you to step out of the car and you refuse multiple times, they are trained to assume that you are hiding something very dangerous and they have to find out what it is immediately before you hurt yourself or someone else.

NOT ALL RACIST PEOPLE ARE COPS.

NOT ALL COPS ARE BAD.

NOT ALL BAD PEOPLE ARE COPS.

NOT ALL COPS ARE RACIST.

And the ones who aren’t are finding it very difficult to do their job because people are tricking them into situations where they don’t come out favorably, even though they are doing what they were trained to do.

Know that when you generalize cops into that racist category, you are including their family. And we are deeply offended.
