Yeah I really hate how fast people on here are for death, torture, and rape as appropriate punishment for killing a dog or mugging someone, fucking ridiculous.

If you killed my dog I would probably try and kill you.

That's why families of victims don't get special judicial powers. There has to be objective rulings.

We had an informal debate club and I got glares from everyone in the room when I brought up objectivity as it relates to the death penalty

If you killed my brother over a fucking dog then I'd probably do the same to you.

It's the circle of deeeeaaaath!

And it kills us all

Through despair and fear

Through hate and misery

Till we find our place

On the path unwinding

In the circle

The circle of death.

Then my family would form an army and besiege your castle.

If you killed him over killing your brother over killing his dog I'd kill you!

Well what was your brother doing killing people's dogs? A guy who goes around killing pets for no reason probably deserves a good murdering.

Okay, but if you killed my dog, I'd have the government kill you.

Because that's different, ethically?

Ideally, the state judicial system should be more objective and provide justice when all people scream for is revenge. That would probably mean that if you kill a dog, the government probably won't kill you but you might pay a fine or do some time in prison.

People are going to scream for justice for a dog, rape or murder while the judicial system steps in to bring some sort of order to the chaos , but there is fine line when it's the government that falls into that category such as this situation where now you step back and think twice about what is even worse.

That's kinda fucked up. I hope if something like that really happened you'd be a little more logical.

If some randomer killed some other randomer's dog how would you feel? Mad, but enough to kill him? Crimes are committed against society, not people, which sounds dumb but it's the only way it can work, and since "society" is why we have laws in the first place prison is meant to take the bad apples out of it and hopefully turn them to good apples. You can't have the victims choose the punishment, because what if someone is murdered and their mother wants the murderer executed but their father doesn't believe in capital punishment? This is why I think there should be standard sentences, for example 65 years for rape and 75 for murder. For theft, 1 year for every 100 dollars stolen, or 10 if it's a violent robbery. I'm not a law maker so don't judge, it's just an idea.

No. No, you wouldn't.

And I get it 100%, however, the state should not. Because it should be above revenge, it's supposed to be just.

In my case if someone kills anyone in my family, I will find him, get a nice book on torture and see how long he lasts. However, I would like the state to avoid torturing people since it's wrong. Some people fail to separate the two and that's really scary.

Definitely, i find that 100% reasonable if the dog was intentionally killed.

That's a barbaric response based nothing on primal animal rage.
