genderbends are transphobic in the way it suggests that “gender = sex” 

In both art or fic featuring the “genderbend” or “genderswap” trope, the characters are always still depicted as cis. Which means it’s not the genderthat’s being swapped (as gender is invisible and internal), it’s in fact the cis body. This implicitly reinforces the idea that body=gender, which is transphobic. “Genderswapped” characters are also always only male or female—as if there are no other genders it would be possible to have.  (x)
