I care about black lives, not blacklivesmatter. I care about breast cancer, not the Susan g komen foundation

Not caring about black lives and not caring about #blacklivesmatter are completely different things. I agree with OP.

As someone from Seattle where probably a total of 12 people are constantly shutting shit down "protesting" I have moved from not caring to actively disliking them

I'm still at not caring. That noise hasn't come to Texas yet

They'd probably get shot in Texas.

Wait...

I thought it was hilarious when they tried to start something with the Sandra Bland thing, but all the people that stoke the race fires are too scared to come to Texas.

So it turned out they reviewed the tape, cop did nothing wrong, no one killed her, she killed herself because she knew she lost her job/housing arragnement because she wanted to kick a cop.

Seattle has a special way of taking a reasonable cause and making you fucking despise it.

You should always ignore the message of groups that annoy you. They never have anything of worth to say. Just go with your gut instinct to totally dismiss their concerns because their tactics are irritating.

#blacklivesmatterdontmatter

If I didn't go on Reddit I'd probably never hear about this so-called movement.

same here. saw some memes yesterday, had to look that shit up.

I see people say this a lot. But don't a lot of people get their news from reddit? If I didn't use it, I would hear about them from some other site I would use to stay informed.

So I'm a little late to the cluster f...I mean discussion but I have an honest question.

Why don't all lives matter? Every time I see Black Lives Matter on a bill board or a reddit thread or a tshirt I wonder what exactly the poster or wearer thinks the message means. Are they saying that ONLY black lives matter? Are they saying that Black Lives Matter more than white lives or Latino lives or any other form of life? If a black person is killed in a shooting along side a white person, a gay person, a person of Muslim faith, and a small Latino boy then how is the life of that black person more valuable than the lives of others who died?

Why not just say LIVES Matter? Black lives, white lives, Asian lives, Latino Lives, gay lives, atheist lives, Christian lives, ALL LIVES. Why can't they all matter?

Top answer gives an excellent explanation to your point.

Because when a friend tells you about how they are hurting, you don't make it about you, even if you have problems too.

It's not that they're saying only black lives matter, they're saying Black Lives Matter (too) for whatever reason people don't understand that. Whether you agree with this or not, people within the black community don't feel their lives matter as much as the lives of other races. They're not bringing others down, they're trying to raise themselves up. Obviously the movement Black Lives Matter has had a negative spin because a lot of people are taking advantage of protesting to cause trouble and riot, but that's a different discussion.

I keep seeing this point on reddit, but of the thousands of people involved in BLM where is the evidence that they are just causing trouble and rioting? Three people interrupt Bernie Sanders and now all of a sudden the whole movement is trash?

[–]Saidir 0

Vocal minorities make quiet majorities look stupid. Whatever event/group gets the screentime sets the public perception of them.

Im from Canada, where everyone just shuts the F up and gets along. Its a shame that people need to take sides on things like this. I always thought it was common sense to not be a hater, or to push your opinions into other peoples faces. Terrible things happen to everybody. Dont use it as an excuse to start a bigger problem

Edit: sorry if this is offensive to anyone

You would be sorry lol

I love that if you say all lives matter your a bigot who doesn't understand the struggle of african americans, if you support their movement as a white male you're still a racist craving acceptance. I will tell you something though. If bernie sanders comes no my town one day and some black lives matter people try to stop him from speaking in taking off my shoe and beating them to sleep.

I care more about having police be accountable for their actions. Doesn't matter what color the skin of their victims are to me.

I'm confident that obeying the law and cooperating with police is the best way to avoid being shot/choked by the police. Regardless of color. I'm not concerned with what happens when this advice is ignored. Regardless of color.

All this hate is coming because they went after Bernie

Well the looting and rioting didn't help much either

Jesus fuck, are you serious? Some people looted and rioted, while the overwhelming majority did not. Is that really a reason to dismiss the entire movement?

*a few of them went after Bernie

I dont care either. I take the Detective Callahan approach to it. Same way I wouldnt care if a white lives matter movement happened. How about every life doesn't matter? Ultimately when the human species dies off, none of us would matter anymore.

It was a joke from the beginning and it has carried that tradition on

No one does really.

I would downvote you, but I don't care that you don't care about that. Honestly, I don't care either. Meh...

The truth is; if this was a movement based on equality, the slogan would be #livesmatter. This is not the case. I absolutely hate this movement. I do, however, like the video from ferguson the other day with the interstate protest. The only person to get slammed by cops was a white guy and the pansyass protesters started to disperse while the police were walking up. No damn backbone. They are doing their movement in wrong, illegal, and adding to that, they don't even fully believe on their cause as it is. They have become a menace to the lives the rest of us live on a daily basis.

Im a Whovian agnostic. #nolivesmatter

I get that. But as racism always has, and still does, in fact, in videos of the current protests, black people are forcibly pushing whites away. Videos that show statements of the sort: "you arent black you have NO right here". Now, in these videos, the words are much more harsh and come along with threats of physical violence. This is not right for an equality movement. I see how there could be an implied "too" at the end, but there is also the implied " white lives dont" there. This is especially evident in the bernie sanders videos and other protest videos. If you want to say "my life matters like yours", then do it. When you mention any race, you automatically exclude others. Man up and say lives matter. Man up and say our lives matter. Anything else and you are putting others down. You continue the racism.

I dont think of myself as racist, but damn folks, every fucking time i see or hear a race card pull, i cant help but hate the jackass that does it. By pulling that particular card, you yourself are allowing a continuation of racism and doing it yourself. Theres a joke about the vertically challenged that isnt a joke; until the shorty asks if it was a short joke... It wasnt, but fucking thanks for making me laugh at the joke i missed (until you pointed it out).

Just a touch of casual racism and reddit craps its pants with excitement.

Basically I just think the movement would make more sense if it was ALL lives matter. Not just black.

Wow, what a cutting edge stance on something that's been openly opposed on Reddit the past several days. You really poured your heart out.
